NMSU BB season is over as of today

The new situation is a mess, but the original one in which an NMSU player shot and killed a student was justified self-defense.

Mike Peake was lured to the UNM campus by a female student allegedly plotting with three other UNM students to attack him. One ambusher was armed with a gun and another with a bat. The student who got killed fired first and Peake fired back.

Peake has not been charged with a crime. The three students who survived have all been charged.

It took 23 years in coaching for Greg Heiar to get his first Division 1 head coaching job.

Ten months later his team was shut down during the season and he can say goodbye to the $300,000 per year, five-year contract because he'll be fired with cause.

His next job interview is going to be wild.

"It says here, coach, that one of your players got into a shootout during the season and three others hazed a teammate multiple times by removing his clothes, slapping his naked butt and touching his scrotum. In front of the whole team.

"What makes you the best choice to lead SMU?"

Doubt he will ever be a HC at Div 1 level again. May not even get a D2 shot. Doesn't help that NMSU also sucked the big one on the field, when they had been good before he arrived. I feel for NMSU fans, he managed to set the program back miles and into a deep hole on all fronts in record time.

This makes it doubtful that CUSA will accept New Mexico State as a member now.  Who knows when they'll have basketball again.  The player{s) doing the hazing should be suspended from the school permanently.  It should be that no other college, regardless of classification, should accept them.

This should not make any difference in them moving in to the conference. They have problems and it looks like their highest levels are addressing them and hopefully they can get the situation cleaned up. 100% agree the players involved in the hazing should be out of basketball
