  1. Meh. This is North Texas basketball. I expected to win.

  2. Kid was a class act, represented us well, daggered UAB to win the NIT, never said a bad word about us and left because of this F’ed up NIL that paid him a quarter of a million which would be hard to turn down. How about we treat him with the same class? Kid doesn’t deserve this. I was critical of him when he left, but he’s a class young man. Time to let it go.

  3. Thing is this guy comes in as a new HC with tons of new players, has his best player Tylor Perry bail along with his starting post Ousmane and tons of injuries all year long. This is one of the most remarkable coaching jobs I have ever seen especially from a 1st year coach. Ross Hodge has a very bright future in coaching and dare I say Jarrod made the right hire! GMG

  4. Game wasn’t near as close as this score. Hit our FT’s and we win by 15+. Best overall game we have played in a while. Four more wins.

  5. You say the money is not life changing. At his age, if he puts $100K in a Roth fund, he is able to retire a multi-millionaire at 50. That is life changing.

  7. In the last year , we beat SEC, Big 12, Big Ten in the NIT.

  8. Let’s try and be better than this. TP had an opportunity and took it (handled his departure gracefully, must add). Abou made his own decision. We don't have that season without them. Just like we don’t beat Purdue without Reese. We can be successful with class, so let’s do it.

  12. Not many of us there....but it was fun to see the win. I sat in GA, talked with a few LSU fans. All were nice, but clearly disappointed. The last LSU game I saw was a 49-7 beat down football game in 1995. My wife was pregnant (Ian turned 28 today), wasn't feeling well and stayed at the hotel while I went to that game solo. Not as pleasant of an atmosphere that day. Physically, it looked like LSU was the bigger, stronger team. NT simply outhustled them, wanted it more, on this night. This is absolutely fun basketball to watch. I love our guys. As the game was winding down, I went down to the reserved seats area where the vast majority of our fans sat. Briefly met a few players parents, celebrated the win and relived that two handed baseline dunk (arguably his second best play of the night) from AScott with his dad. Great win! BTW, parking was free in the track and field lot, probably elsewhere, and ticket was $10. When I walked up to the ticket office, they gave me the ticket for free. GMG

  16. Let me guess what’s going on lsu’s fan board from bozos who didn’t bother to check NT’s team defense rank… “ Our guys are missing shots they should be making!!1!!” “It’s like we’re not trying hard!” “We’re giving this game away!!1!1!” “I can’t believe <high-scoring player> can’t find his shot against these guys!!”…. Sound about right? 😂

  17. Because our Tylor Perry transferred there for "greener NIL pastures" and they're now with us in the NIT. Abou Ousmane, who transferred to Xavier is also playing in the NIT. We would have won many more games, easily qualified for the NCAA Tournament, and probably made a very good run if both of those players remained at North Texas. They should have been star players on this years Cinderella team in the tourney, but have been relegated to the role of forgettable journeymen in mediocre seasons at their current schools. It's a high price to pay as they will both miss the tremendous exposure they would have received. Oh well.

  18. Same. Makes me proud of where this program is today.

  19. To set the record straight, Abou was dismissed from the team prior to the NIT tournament last season. He did not leave on his own accord.

  20. All I'm saying is that if St Joseph's had Tylor Perry that they would have this game on lockdown.

  21. They definitely had more want to than LSU last night. Sissoko diving for that loose ball in the first half makes me hope the intensity level continues to increase during these games

  23. That is one of the great wins in NT basketball history, over an SEC team on the road in the postseason. I hope it is a sign of things to come.

  26. I feel like we're a less famous/successful version of UCLA. UCLA is (usually) in a great league (though the Pac-12 was obviously down this year) with 11 National Tittles to their name. For such a historically fantastic program though they have trouble filling Pauley Pavilion. Not as much as we do filling the Super Pit, but considering their league and history...yeah they struggle outside of the Arizona, USC, and maybe one marquee OOC game. I'm not sure what they report as their official capacity, but I watch them a lot on TV since I live here, and most home games they're at around 60% full. For cupcake OOC games it's obviously less and for the big games more, but...55-60% is fairly typical. They have a HUGE alumni base and a large number of students who live on or near campus (when you are in Westwood it weirdly has a bit of a commuter feel though), with as much tradition as anyone, and they still struggle to fill. Some of that is they have high standards. They have to compete with a million other options (which we always talk about at NT too) with tons of pro and college teams also in season (not to mention all the other stuff that any big city has). Looking at attendance, it usually places that are true college towns that have little to compete with as far as other options which are the ones that consistently draw. I mean if you go to Lawrence Kansas, the biggest game in town is Jayhawk basketball, there's nothing else close. As much as we like to talk about being located in DFW is great for us, it's also a bit of a curse.

  28. It's nice to see when the keys to something special are handed over to a new steward, and that guy keeps it going, but in his own way. Recall, the same thing happened in 2012, and it was immediately wrecked. It was nice to see Hodge relax the reigns a little and let the guys play some transition offense this year, instead of staying uber-disciplined in the deliberate offense that we played with GM. Not to say we abandoned that deliberate offense (still 2nd to last in pace of play out of 362 teams behind Virginia). I appreciate Coach Hodge!

  29. North Texas advances to the Round of 16 while both Kansas State (Perry) and Xavier (Ousmane) lose their first NIT match on opening day and both former North Texas star players have sadly ended their college careers with a whimper.

  30. it will be a little funny if both Ousmane and Perry lose first round NIT and could be in 2nd round with us.

Jayden Hill “Maybe the brightest star of all the transfers is Jayden Hill from Ohio Dominican,” Morris said of the safety. “He’s been as good as anyone. To have him on the back end with Isheem and BJ Allen Jr. gives us three guys who possess the body type you want coming downhill and tackling.”

  37. Which is another reason we have no identity when it comes to recognizing us by uniform. Different game, different uniform. Our primary color is green not black.

  38. I'm going to reverse this and say we need to be able to fill our current home when you have 40,000 on campus, not counting faculty and staff, 150,000 in Denton and over 200,000 alumni living in DFW. Pack the Pit.

  39. NT and Hodge have had a great year when all turnover and injuries are considered. Hodge is a good on-court coach, but his real strength is recruiting. He is finding players and signing them without the benefit of an abundance of NIL funds and frankly a lot attendance support. The mark of great coaching to me is the ability to create a team that is greater than the sums of the parts. Although NT has great college players, I believe they frequently beat teams with more individual talent.

  42. Yes, that coward Perry ran away for a much larger NIL payment and to play in one of the best BB conferences in the country. He certainly deserves condemnation for that kind of decision. I guess you are not a capitalist., but it should be obvious that some people are just better at somethings than others are. Blame the NIL system and I will agree with you, but your take on capitalism and loyalty are at best problematic.

  44. NT 62 ---------- LSU 48 10:01 to go Starting to slow the game down some, which is actually much more our style. Beat them playing at a faster pace, if we start grinding them -- you really have to like our chances.
