  1. We made the trek out to Ft Worth from Plano for the game. A few thoughts: Not my first trip to the arena, but Dickies is a very nice midsized arena. I know we weren't supposed to like The Star, but even with the upper levels curtained off, Dickies feels cavernous with no people in it. Takes away the energy in a bit, even more than an empty Super Pit. This Mean Green Women's BB team attempts to play a fast-paced offense that we haven't seen in years of watching Mens BBall with Hodge and Mac before that. The Mean Green Women's fast-paced offense sometimes feels totally out of control. I am not a BBall savant, but their ball-handling skills cannot keep up with the pace of the offense they are attempting to play. The Rice defense appeared to shut down our offense at times, especially when we made sloppy passes through traffic in the middle that lacked power. It was clear who could sink 3s from the Rice team. I think it was #11 and #3 (I might have the second number wrong; I think she was a blondish white girl). We frequently left them open at the top of the arc, and they frequently scored from those positions. When the pace seems to get out of control, Burton needs to call a Timeout. There were a few times when we were perfectly fine letting the whole game get fast and sideways, but a simple timeout would have brought the pace to zero and given us time to reset. Burton gives Littrell vibes in this regard. You don't get extra points for saving your timeouts or having so many at the end that you just call them one after another in the final seconds. I feel for the women's team and understand the gravity of a 3-way tie winning the regular season and looking like you're going to go out in the first game in the Conf Tourney. Still, you GOTTA pull it together in the clutch final seconds of a winnable basketball game. Burton needs to find a way to bring the mental fortitude of the team up for next season. Great job, Women's team. I say that sincerely, and I also acknowledge and apologize for how easy it is for all of us to be Monday Morning Quarterbacks. I'm excited for the years ahead! Regroup, improve, mature, and recruit great in the offseason, and we will only see greater successes next season.

  3. Karma. Watch the previous game at Rice. Kernal was flexing, posing and talking smack to their student section/football team. Came back to bite her. Doesn’t all fall on her though. Too careless with the ball all game and too many mental mistakes. Hats off to Rice. Good news, we aren’t done yet.

  4. This team was not ready to play and that is on the coach. I can understand the emotions, this team has played well most of the season and is beaten by a weak team in the game that counted the most. Look at the positive, this team was not going anywhere in the big Dance, and now they will end up in a tournament they have a much better chance for wins.

  6. Feel bad for Kernal. Those 2 missed FTs didn't lose the game but her meltdown was surprising from a senior. This team wouldn't have tied for the conference title without her.

  7. Big choke job by Kernal at the end, but way too many missed free throws and turnovers overall. We had less turnovers in the second half but when we did have them, they were at terrible times.

  12. I hope I'm wrong, but Morris was an uninspired hire for UNT. Face it. We were pathetic last year.

  14. Seemed to lack killer focus— too many turnovers and missed free throws. Great season so far- hope we get a WNIT bid. Next season needs — replacing the seniors will be a priority and improved defense.

  15. Morning after and it still hurts. We had a really good path to the NCAA Tournament with Tulsa and Charlotte going down. The only remaining team that had beaten us was UTSA twice, in games we blew. Women follow the same theme as the men, struggle more against the CUSA refugees (5 of their 6 conference losses) than the AAC teams. Proving we belong in this conference.

  16. Good thoughts, I too have really gotten in to WBB this year because of these coaches and the ladies. However, that only adds to the disappointment in this game. Turnover, turnover, turnover, missed free throw, turnover, missed free throw. Add bad defense and Rice looked like world beaters. The physical effort was there for the most part for the Mean Green. However, they looked like the mental effort was missing. Bad quick shots, poor defense and rebounding, it looks like they were more interesting in who scored than winning a game in which they were heavily favored in.

  19. Way to many turnovers and gave up 11 offensive rebounds. We should get an WNIT bid. #1 and #2 seed losing the first game of the tournament looks bad for the conference.

  23. Now that the regular season is over I thought it'd be interesting to look back to see how the newbie programs held vs "better" competition... Old Guard SMU - 4-4 Memphis - 3-4 USF - 8-1 Tulsa - 4-5 ECU - 1-7 Tulane - 1-8 Wichita - 3-4 Temple - 3-5 Overall: 27-38 New Guard FAU - 9-2 CLT - 6-5 UAB - 8-3 UNT - 9-2 Utsa - 3-8 Rice - 4-7 Overall: 39-27 I found it funny when their fans started to openly look down their nose at the programs joining the AAC. Well...

  24. So sad and weak. Come and play at our place but scared to play away. If you’ve gotta duck Colorado State and North Texas, you’ve got serious issues as a football program.

  27. Um, Morris passed on Texas State, not the other way around. And we are paying Morris far more than what Texas State is paying their coach. Now, you may want to argue that we would have done better to hire the guy Texas State hired. But that's a different conversation.

  29. Did not see any attempt of an answer to who would you have pursued as a HC. It may be your opinion that NT will decline on offense and fail to improve on defense but you offer no backup for your POV. Morris did improve the offense although that was a lot less an achievement than the challenge on the defensive side. I am not sure if you are aware of anymore than I am relative to next year's NT football season. Other than a horrible start against Cal and FIU, I think last year was a step in the right direction for NT's program. Closed the season with two wins, and with the exception of against a very good SMU team, the games were close. The most positive variable IMO is that NT replaced .500 Littrell. Morris may not be the answer but his hiring is at least a change that might work.

  38. People act like the NCAA is some independent entity that makes decisions that people gotta live with no matter what they think. Remember. The commissioner of the NFL, MLB, NHL, NBA are all employees of the owners. They are just the day-to-day managers and they have to keep a majority of the owners happy no matter how good or noble they want to be about their league. Conference commissioners are doing the same role for the university presidents. The NCAA is a complex beast where all are equal but some are more equal than others. Lamar gets more say in how things go than West Texas A&M, UNT gets more say than Lamar, Texas Tech gets more say than than UNT, and while on the organizational chart, Texas Tech has the same say as Texas, we all know that with the SEC and B1G saber rattling, Texas gets more say than Texas Tech. The basic system is UNT and Texas State are simultaneously wanting someone to hold Texas and Texas A&M in check while not making UT and TAMU so mad that they leave. Even West Texas A&M wants the NCAA to not piss off UT and TAMU because they get to be in the NCAA for the price of a token dues payment every year and the NCAA picks up a good piece of the costs for good post-season events for them to compete in. They don't want the NCAA to be like the NAIA where dues are large enough to cover not only the administrative costs of running the organization but also the cost of post-season events. The old Arkansas Intercollegiate Conference broke up because NAIA dues were assessed based on enrollment and the larger schools could go and deal with more complex compliance issues in NCAA Division II that would require hiring another person and still come out ahead financially over paying NAIA dues. So the Division II and III schools are both appalled by how Division I athletics are run while enjoying the financial benefits of it being an insane system... as long as the high value schools stay. It's a mess but no one likes the alternative.

  41. So, if I may, what do you think will spring from THIS season that we haven't seen? I have my answer: Decrease in offensive production + Similar defensive output = another poor year. If you don't think that will happen, that is fine. And I hope you're right. But I would like to know what variable(s) you would like uncover that I am unaware of? All things point to a declining football program.

  42. It does not appear that we have done much to change the ratings to me. I see us winning 4-5 game next year with this defense. And we still have not landed one portal defensive lineman.

  46. Tech fans have a deep hate (no exaggeration) for UT and A$M. They have always viewed those schools as their rivals. Unfortunately for them, those feelings have never been reciprocated. A$M hasn't scheduled them in football or basketball since leaving the Big 12 and Texas has already indicated that they will not be scheduling them in football in the foreseeable future and after this incident I doubt they will schedule them in Basketball. Tech fans are at least in part responsible for the refusal to schedule games.
