  3. Portal is fascinating. In the short time it has been around I classed guys into three groups. 1. Those doing well looking to go up the food chain. 2. Those not getting the experience they expected and looking to move in some direction to find that experience, generally playing time. 3. Guys whose services are no longer required. Seeing high major starters go in? This think that requires a fourth category. 4. I want more NIL money and playing leverage to get it from you or someone else.

  5. This is college football in 2024. Oklahoma State lost 12 guys last year first day of transfer portal. They just played for a conference championship last week. The roster was lacking depth and talent there is no two way around it. North Texas lost a couple guys that they got out of the portal that we didn't win huge recruiting battles for that came to north texas and became all confernce players (Miner, Maclin, Ayo and Nwaiwu). The RB and WR I am not super concerned with replacing. The OL will be tough. as for the other 13 there is several depth guys and walk on that wouldn't have seen the field. The coaches need to hit on evals is the biggest factor. There are over 1000 kids in portal. There are more kids than spots. But North Texas has had to many walks on out perfoming scholarship guys the last 3-4 years.

  7. The NCAA is trying hard to avoid the Power Conferences from breaking off and doing their own thing. Get ready for them (NCAA) to start cowering more than ever.

  8. I don't know what anyone else is doing. I know the one at A-State does one year deals. They don't commit money they don't have. They also pay after the fact. You have to meet your various obligations during the month or you are likely to have your pay held until you make the required appearances and social media posts. I highly doubt that is the practice everywhere but one of the organizers at A-State was COO of a very large bank and did a stint at the Federal Reserve. My expectation is we will eventually see a collective go to bankruptcy or just flat fold because it lacks any assets to protect in bankruptcy court and some really unhappy players when the check bounces or never arrives. I also expect some schools will have the embarrassment of discovering that the person they hired to run the collective is a film-flam man and has skimmed money off in various schemes. Again won't be pretty.

  9. I think it is largely because of how they narrowed the portal to two windows instead of being open ended like it used to be.

  10. The TP opened today. There hasn’t been time to bring in talent. I think waiting to see who is signed for the Spring…possibly summer, would be a better gauge.

  12. I really don’t think there is much Morris can do with some of these departures. Guys know they can get paid handsomely and don’t have to sit out because so many of them have graduated due to getting that free COVID season of eligibility. I completely get the concern though. One thing I’ll say is that as of now out of our 17 Portal entrants, only Ethan Miner and Josh Smith were brought in by Morris.

  13. Isn't this what the Mean Green Forum wanted.? The current roster didn't meet your expectations. We are up to 17 in the portal +19 seniors. I had predicted 50 new scholarship players for fall camp. The big challenge now is getting enough in school in the next few weeks to have an effective spring. Its not as easy as it sounds, especially with limited grad level classes.

  15. Spoiled brats? These aren't just gladiators that go out there every Saturday for your own entertainment. These are college students that are actively looking to set the best course for their own personal success. Finances are a huge aspect of that mentality and while I am disappointed in the way the NCAA has handled NIL, blaming 20 year old college kids for taking money seems barbaric

  17. Bring back Seth Littrell. If you want to enter the transfer portal, you have to beat him in a 1 on 1 wrestling match first. Our team retention would be through the roof

  21. He played at Vanderbilt for crying out loud. Of course his stats don't add up. He had to deal with SEC teams instead of SBC & AAC teams. Put Rogers in a Commodores helmet and I wonder how he does (heck, maybe we'll find out!) He played SEC football, and got a degree from Vanderbilt. That is a success to me. I promise I'm not saying that lightly, and definitely not out of spite to poo-poo Rogers. Ask any of our Parker County residents who happened to see Seals play. Now, it seems he just wants to ball close to home, and if he wants to go into business, UNT has some extremely competitive graduate programs in that arena... not to mention an insanely-successful alumnus who runs one of the most successful Tax firms in America, who probably could get him a nice position upon graduation if he so chooses.

  23. The only way the NCAA saves FBS football is by splitting all TV money equally amongst all FBS football programs and instilling a salary cap. Otherwise, the sport will die and thousands of kids will lose their opportunity to earn a college scholarship amongst which hundreds will never even get the chance to make it to the NFL. Paying players isn't the problem, it's the greed amongst the top 10-20 programs that is doing this. The original issue is players wanted a piece of the pie. Fast-forward several years and the players still aren't getting a piece of the pie. Instead, wealthy fanbases have baked their own pies to distribute to their players. It's worst than what it should have been. Not impossible to go back and correct mistakes but this certainly feels like the point of no return if these new rules pass.

  26. Before we start jumping off bridges, we need to check the portal. According to 247, over 500 players entered the portal today.

  27. The majority of these kids are being misled with bad advice and don't give a second thought about their education. As I have mentioned, the cost of tuition, room/board, books, meals, snacks, pre/post game/practice nutrition, tutors, clothing, healthcare, etc... is plenty. Tired of the Me mentality that so many have, of them saying one thing and then turning around and doing the exact opposite. What would be best for 95% of these kids is to attend a school that provides a great education in the field of study that interests them because they aren't going to the NFL.

  28. The NCAA doesn't have the balls. The ran this shit NIL program out there with zero guidelines and the lil' Ponies tot he south made a mockery of it. Just change it from NIL to PFP (pay for play).

  32. https://calbears.com/news/2023/12/3/football-bloesch-elevated-to-offensive-coordinator-o-line-coach Baylor hired Spavital a few days ago, so Cal stays in-house. This was a no-brainer move for Cal (who's doing it the right way, promoting him to OC/O-Line... not OC/QBs), and I hope they do well. Bloesch is a really good OC. Hope they find a designated QBs coach to replace Spav though, otherwise if their QBs have any technical/mechanical issues, they're screwed. Cole Johnson is also still there as an Offensive GA as well.

  34. @UNTFan94 I love Todd Dodge, truly, but I think he is happy doing what he is doing. He gets to enjoy football at his own pace now. I just had my kids in one of his minicamps this past weekend. He is holding another one this weekend. Best quarterback coach in the country as far as I am concerned. Anyways, I don’t think he wants to go back to the requirements of a full-time gig. He gets to enjoy his family and friends too much to go back to the daily grind. Now if you want to take advantage of that connection and make the most of it, you probably need to do your best to grab Riley Dodge instead. I think that would be a stellar hire.

  36. My requirements: 1. No names on shirts. Don't really care who you are anymore. Just win some games. 2. No choice of uniform. We are green and white with black accents. You are our employee. The days of choosing all black, gray or anything else than a majority green and white are done. The dog wags the tail, not vice versa. 3. No more senior day for some kid that spent a year here. If you came here, spent three or more years and have earned your degree, then go right ahead. 4. Not purchasing any sweatshirt/t-shirt with your name and number so you can cash in. The days of buying and then looking up to see you playing elsewhere are over. 5. Done with season tickets. I will now pick one game a year to make the trip for. Outside of that, I will watch on television or my computer. 6. This is now a business agreement between you and me. You perform as expected and you will get cheered for. You suck and you will hear it from me. Represent my university well in all interactions, perform to the best of your abilities on game day, stay out of trouble and be an embarrassment. You fail on any of these and you get kicked to the curb. 7. I like Coach Morris and wish him well. 8. Time for Coach O to earn his keep. Funny videos on Twitter don't cut it any more. Do your job, and do it well. Time to deliver.

  43. While I'm happy for the success of those walk-ons, I think this shows we've had a problem evaluating talent. Don't get me wrong - NO ONE always gets talent evaluation right. And almost every team has a walk-on that was misevaluated and later earned a scholarship. But NT has been having too many walk-ons outperforming scholarship guys.

  44. I’m sure this was meant to be a facetious comment.. but outside of Maclin, Ayo, Wilson, Miner and Febechi I don’t see staff losing any sleep over any one else that has hit portal so far. And 3 of the 5 I listed were walk ons and 1 of the others only offer out of portal was UNT. Sucks losing them. But it’s happening to everyone. There is over 1000 guys in portal right now. Almost 10 per team
