What a difference a week makes. Congratulations to Coach Morris on his first victory as the leader of our Mean Green! It was nice to see that the staff made adjustments. The defense came out in a 4 man front a few times and they didn't give up a first down until the 10 minute mark of the 2nd quarter. We gave up 432 yards this week, which is a 16% improvement from last week. On offense, we had 47 rushes for 249 yards and 41 (25 completions) passes for 313 yards. We produced a total of 562 yards. We had 1 fumble (screenshot updated). The team had 9 penalties for 115 yards tonight. I am sure there will be a big emphasis on this during the next two weeks. Regardless, we won last night. GMG! Observations: Chandler Rogers was efficient and made plays last night. He had a great command of the offense and did a fantastic job throwing the ball. He completed around 60% of his passes (24-41) for 313 yards and 2 TDs. Additionally, he ran for 45 yards. It seemed most of his runs were for first downs when the pocket broke down. Overall, he was very impressive! Roderic Burns was great all night as well. He was open all night and made several big plays for us. He has 11 receptions for 134 yards. Also, shoutout to Ja'Mori Maclin and Damon Ward they caught both of Chandler's touchdown passes. Ayo Adeyi the La Tech killer had a hell of a game. He had several big runs for us last night. It seems he always does well against La Tech. I was excited to see him step up tonight. He ended up rushing for 148 yards and 2 TDs. Also, shoutout to Oscar Adaway who had 44 yards rushing tonight. He had multiple tough runs that set up first downs for us. Shout out to Noah Rauschenberg and Sawyer Evans tonight. If Pat McAfee watched our game film, I am sure he would be excited to watch these 2 guys. Noah drilled a 25, 22, 48 and 31 yard field goal (game winner). Sawyer Evans had a 64 yard punt that pinned La Tech deep. The defense played much better tonight. They gave up 82 yards less this week, caused multiple 3 and outs, and also had a few big stops on 4th down. I was encouraged to see the coaches make adjustments and play us in the 4 man front on some drives. Shoutout to Mazin "Amazing" Richards who had 5 tackles, 3 for loss, and 1 sack. It was nice to see him blitzing from the edge again. Rod Brown had 3 QB hurries tonight. He did a great job on the 4th down stop late in the game as well. Kevin Wood was our leading tackler with 9 total (7 solo). Logan Wilson was solid in coverage and had 8 tackles (6 solo) tonight. The 2 redshirt freshman Patrick Smith and Ethan Wesloski continue to have big games for us. Patrick had 7 tackles (2 solo) and Ethan had 6 tackles (3 solo). They both did great jobs making tackles in space. Bryce Linder also had 6 tackles (3 solo). It was nice to see the defense respond to the adversity they have faced the last 2 weeks. I hope we continue to improve each week and add more wins. GMG!20 points

What more can you ask for?! Win or lose that one, I was at the edge of my seat. And we won! What a start to the season! Also have to commend Morris’ ability to get some studs out of the transfer portal. Portal additions Rogers and Rauschenberg both coming up huge in the clutch.18 points

I just want to say I'm so glad to be out of CUSA and their terrible officiating. PI in the endzone, offensive PI, roughing the passer which wasn't close, offside on the onside kick which didn't go 10 yards. They even picked the flag up on the last one. All of those plays extended their drives. Just pure incompetence.15 points

I get Earle made a great effort in practice, but Rogers is the starter. He looks to have great poise and a fluid throwing motion. Also I don't remember UNT having a duel threat style QB ever, it makes a nice wrinkle in the offense.12 points

Noting tonight makes me believe Caponi needs to continue as our DC. Jared - When Morris makes the change, please, for the sake of the fans, work with him and make sure he brings in an experienced DC or even an FCS head coach with a defensive side-of-the-ball background. UNT can never allow a new HC who is an offensive guy to hire inexperienced DCs.11 points

I'm not sure we pull that off in OT, mainly due to the defense. I give Rogers all the credit for being a gamer and moving the ball down the field after spending much of the final 10 minutes on the bench. I was worried about their ability to get back in rythm and ended up impressed. That was a great game winning drive.10 points

Which Port are we referring to? Arthur? Aransas? Morris, being a native Texan, is most likely aware of both.10 points

While our 4-man front isn't perfect, it is better than our 3-man front. Both LA Tech TD's came against Caponi's 3-man front. That's not a coincidence.10 points

A couple of observations (defensively)... First thing I noticed last night. Saw the 4 DL look, got happy. It worked. We got QB pressure(s) (and sack), contained the run (more often) and gave LaTech some problems. There were other times we walked down the LB to create a 4-man look and reduced the DE/DT down inside. This helped as well (but not as much as true 4 DLs). I understand the need to be in multiple fronts and show different looks throughout the course of the game. There are times when being in a 30 stack make sense. HOWEVER, inside your own 10 is not one of those times. The field is already compressed from a passing standpoint, get bigger/stronger upfront in these situations! The best way to help your DBs in passing situations is a pass rush (this from a former DB)! Prevent D (let them use up clock defense) only works if your come up and make the tackle! Finally, we have to be smarter! Giving them 30 penalty yards (clock stopped) on a PI and facemask can't happen.9 points

Morris deserves a lot of credit for making the moves to get our offense on track. I'm still confused as to how he could lead us into the season without knowing who are QB1 should be, but at least he's fixed it. I actually think his offense is more potent than Littrell's version. But, my game ball goes to Rogers. While Morris called a good game, Rogers did a masterful job of audibling into the right plays. With Rogers running the show, I think we can put up points against any team in the AAC. Unfortunately, Caponi's defense will continue to hold back our team as long as he insists on leaning on the 3-3-5.9 points

Super cool of Eric to call in. We’ve still got a ways to go but he is family and he’s doing the right things. I love that guy!9 points

The 4-man front resulted in back-to-back 3 and outs and about 4 yards of LT offense in the 1st quarter, but Caponi thought it would be smart not only to move back to the 3-man front, but basically stick with it for most of the 2nd, 3rd, & 4th quarters. That dude is too stupid to remain as our DC.9 points

This game should not have been close. We had this game under control. Giving up 22 points in the 4th is ridiculous.9 points

Staff is proven it can make adjustments. Something North Texas coaches have struggled with in the past.9 points

Exactly. I agree. I have to also give Coach Morris props on the 3rd & 7 halfback draw from Tech’s 35 yard line. Defense was expecting pass and Adeyi breaks off a 21 yard run to put us well within FG range. Game. Set. Match.8 points

We don’t act like we are Alabama, we act like we expect the new coach to outperform the fired coach he replaced. We beat Louisiana Tech by 20 points last year.8 points

that was way to close, compared to where it should have been, Caponi still needs to be fired for the defensive meltdown. A Win is a Win though8 points

Nice job. Chandler's pocket presence is strong. The pocket was collapsing around him and he escaped a number of times, often times for significant yardage. His peripheral vision is superior and/or he has a great feel for what is happening behind him. GMG7 points

looking at the Defense Side of the ball it sure seem like we should be in a four man front. Richards can do what Richards does in a four man line6 points

Rogers is that dude. We need to write his name in sharpie as QB1 and ride or die this season with him.6 points

So, we know the coach is aware of the port and sort of how it works, but may not be aware that defensive players also use the portal?6 points

Yeah, maybe once Coach Morris watches the film, he'll tell Caponi to stop with the 3 man D for the rest of the year.6 points

I'm a bit annoyed at the collapse. They took their foot off the gas on offense and I'd expect our HC to know better than to do that. You never give the other team life. Glad they squeezed it out. Hopefully getting that first win gives them some momentum moving forward.5 points
