  2. FOR THE MILLIONTH FRIGGIN TIME FOR THOSE WHO STILL DON’T GET IT: NIL IS NOT FROM THE SCHOOL BUT FROM COMPANIES OR DONORS DIRECTLY TO THE STUDENT. People here saying “UNT doesn’t want to do NIL” do not at all understand the process. The only role the university has is making sure the student athletes are complying with the rules and understanding their obligations. So yes since it is an endorsement deal, like any other, they would have to pay taxes on their earnings.

  3. North Texas fans could be right on this one being a bust. I mean why would he leave Bama is my question. I will always give you guys the benefit of the doubt. My yard guy went to NT and he seems to be a pretty sharp guy and right about a lot of things.

  4. Jokes on you. A punter will have plenty of opportunity for success at North Texas.

  9. I mean, yes. But isn’t that the case every time the underdog wins a game against the favored team? Most fans are happy to beat a better team. That’s why we actually play the games, right? Should the dirty birds be a better team than us? No, and I think that is the argument we should be making, not crapping on a hard fought win by our athletes. We aren’t always going to be the best team on the field no matter how much we wish it so, so let’s enjoy when we overcome the odds (literally) and pull out a W. UTSA was having a pretty magical season and we killed it. Celebrate! Then evaluate why we were not having one. I think it is important to separate the two issues.

  10. I look at it more like Brammer vs the Murphys. Brammer put in his 4 years and left because of a free year he never expected to get. The Murphs felt they were too big for our program. I’d put McBride in the Brammer category. Best of luck to him.

  11. This is definitely better than opening up a "player update" thread, only to read a happy birthday tweet for a parent.

  12. Interesting that he just entered the transfer portal after enrolling at Utah in February. Would love to see us go after him. As noted in the post above, was a teammate of Jaxon Van Zandt.

  13. Her role is pretty important when it comes to recruiting. I expect whoever NT hires to replace her will have a thread or 2 as well.

  16. Sarkisian should be championing this young man instead of silencing him. Speaks volumes about the culture at UT and what the NIL is doing. https://247sports.com/Article/Texas-football-Senior-DT-Moro-Ojomo-calls-out-teams-attitude-in-light-of-NIL-deals-186139984/ “They have to somehow see their 24-year-old self, their 25-year-old self, maybe signing their second NFL contract for like 50 million as opposed to seeing their 20-year-old self making 40K off of NIL and sleeping with women and drinking and all that.

  18. This hits on a misconception I keep seeing on here. There are not a lot of players being outright purchased by programs according to what is being reported on our there. It is just being used to put someone over the edge. NIL program is just another factor like offense type, playing time, coach relationship, etc. If you aren't participating you aren't paying basic table stakes. Might as well be trying to get a QB to transfer to you and never tell him the offense you run. This is critical stuff.

  20. i would normally agree with you Jim but in this case I believe that the enthusiasm will come from #2 and #3. Bloesch and Bennett both seemed to breathe some life in the offense and defense and there seems to be more intensity in both units. I believe that the team will win 7-8 games this year which could create a dilemma. If Seth has another year on his contract and he wins a bowl game, what happens then?

  21. I think it's important to differentiate as well. I thought that's what I did. Did you see the part where, while I was there, I was high-fiving other fans and laughing at them? It was fun! I celebrated for sure! I came on here and all everyone was talking about was the Frank Harris' fumble-itis. Funny jokes abounded, and we were all laughing. The moment was sweet, and definitely enjoyed by all. Then, the comments about how we've "turned the corner" started, and I think that's where the "evaluation" starts. Since "turning a corner" seems to evaluate the team's state. Some bought in. Others did not (myself included). The bowl game was the pudding's proof. Yet, we're still here, trying to manufacture excitement for next season.

  25. Yes you did, but you are not the only person who has poo-poo’d the wins. And I just don’t get dismissing the UTsa win. Do we now just instantly dismiss any win in the rain? I agree that it was a major factor but we also stuck it to them and got them frustrated. Plus their coach didn’t have them ready and got nervous and pulled the QB. We were better prepared and wanted it more. I call that winning football. 🤷🏻‍♂️

  26. With the way you take data out that doesn’t suit your narrative, you should be a political scientist. I wish he was gone too but sooooo tired of the narrative that the winning streak didn’t “count” somehow. Every NT winning season is made up of a majority of weak teams. ——- Seth can’t beat winning teams! (beats two winning teams) Not those winning teams! Doesn’t count!

  27. I am optimistic. There was massive improvement the last 6 games last year. I am expecting to be bowl eligible and competitive in every game. I don't expect to win all 13, but that would be amazing. Dang people, quit being so gloomy. Enjoy your team and your school. Get excited when they win and be down when they don't. It is what makes the season great.

  30. Without knowing the ins and outs of how this would work, college football could quickly balance things if they lowered the number of D1 scholarships allowed per team. Spread the talent wealth a bit instead or having fringe G5/P5 recruits ride the pine because they wanted B10 or SEC on their jerseys. College basketball wouldn't be what it is today if they allowed 20 scholarships per program. The NFL can do a longer schedule with a 53 man roster. The college ranks should get closer to that number. Go from 85 to say 70 or 75.

  32. The term “riding the bench” means not playing or contributing. It doesn’t mean coming off the bench.

  33. Friendly reminder that all this back and forth was started by @Andrew saying McBride is not good enough to start or contribute anywhere else
    1 point
  34. I am not naive and I get this stuff happens at programs much bigger than ours. With that in mind, I respectfully tend to agree with Andrew on this. Let just stop pretending that we are so damn happy a great player is choosing to leave us the team that believed in him so much and gave him his shot when many others didn’t. Please stop normalizing the hurtful effects of the portal. It’s very disingenuous. And you come across as very insincere. It’s a bad look and it just makes it easier for the next guy to bail.

  35. Exactly…. And now he wants to leave. Just like Reese. No need to cheer for him or any success. He quit on the team. He can ride the bench. Y’all act like I’m one of those people wishing guys that are disloyal get injured. There are plenty of people out there wishing that. That’s not me, but I also don’t have to cheer him on or wish him success. Jordan Williams stayed Loyal, Josh White stayed loyal, Chris Davis stayed loyal. Plenty of players worth cheering once they move on. No issue with Zach or Javion taking a chance at the next level. Just like Tony Mitchel. I can cheer on guys who were cut by the coach (which I don’t agree with as well). See Jackson. Only player I have ever been up in the air with was Chris Jones because I know he and Benford had some issue and they did try to work it out but it wasn’t happening on either end. Again (since clearly a few people had a issue reading my comment). I don’t have to cheer on McrBride. I have no reason to root for him to start or see the post season again. He isn’t on my team. I am a UNT fan. Not a player fan. I love this game and I love my university.

  36. UNT didn't give him success. It gave him an opportunity to be successful. He took that opportunity, was successful, and as a result helped UNT be successful. Without its players, coaches, and other staff, UNT basketball is nothing but an idea. Let's not downplay how important these guys are to the memories we've made cheering them on. Take out McBride and his 16 points vs Purdue and we may still be winless in the big dance, if we would have even made it that far.

  37. 6'3 216 averaged 19.6 PPG, 41% from three on 148 attempts, nearly a 2:1 assist/TO ratio, 1 steal per game, and 83% from the free throw stripe. I would bet that his recruitment blows up soon enough those are pretty efficient stats.

  38. By the way folks...the weather is looking GREAT for the 26th. Right now I am showing a forecast of 73 degrees and sunny! Absolutely perfect. SO, even if you don't care to play...come out and watch and enjoy the show, be part of the tailgate and take a look at some great silent auction items. This is my SWAN SONG with this event. Been doing these events for about 14 years. WE have raised a bunch of money for scholarships and we have had a great time playing everything from touch football, to basketball, to softball to kickball in that span of years. If anyone would like to take this project on going forward I would be more than happy to help in the transition and stay on for the next year in a "helper/advisor" sort of role. But, time for new leadership. PM me here if you have any interest in seeing that these great student-athletes continue to get the support they deserve for all they do on behalf of our great University.

  40. We aren't grouped with them where it counts--money. The P5 get the money--the P4 or P2 will eventually get even more money. We won't--we never have and we never will. That's due to a lot of factors, but it doesn't change the fact that we are a have not. Dabo is right. Middle Tennessee is different from Tennessee. South Albama is different than Alabama. And yes, UNT is all kinds of different than UT. Let those schools go. They don't want us--they use us for money and glorified practices. They will easily drop all of us ASAP. Anyone with these grand allusions that we are equal to them in the eyes of the NCAA, the networks, media, fans, or players and coaches is naive at best. Hell, look at Texas Tech. They make a lot of money. They have played in a conference with Texas for about 60+ years. They aren't even anywhere near UT in revenue, fans, or media coverage. And they are probably being left behind to be with the UH's and Baylor's of the world. If they can't stay in the top of the NCAA Football world, what chance do we have of ever getting included? Think back to 1978--because we weren't even allowed in it back then, much less now, where we see SMU, TCU, Baylor, Rice, Uh, Tech, and others in the Big XII currently basically looking down the barrel of a gun to being relegated. Thats ok to recognize...nobody is being a bad fan by saying this out loud. Reality is reality.

  41. Everyone basically knows what we are going to get. If it's <7 wins and middle of the CUSA West, why get excited for that? I support my Mean Green as usual, but this lack of enthusiasm is not a big mystery.

  42. players are still entering and almost none of the players already in the portal have committed. why do we always insist on doing this? "Drez, stay!!" almost immediately turns into "psh, see...he wasn't that great anyway". all that does is disparage OUR program. dude has more than lived up to his commitment here. if he wants to move on and experience a part of his very small window of eligibility elsewhere, then I wish him nothing but the best. a wise man once said, it's not always about "better", sometimes it's just about "different"

  43. I blame the UTSA win. Had we not win that damn game we probably would be in a completely different situation. Winning that game forced @wren to bend the knee. Now we must all sit and wait. #demoralizing

  44. I find it humorous how you continue to grasp onto the thought that we are in the same division as the SEC schools and Big Ten. You can call it what you want too but we're not and we're probably never going to be able to afford that type of financial commitment to our programs
