  1. Huge road wins. I don't think a casual fan realizes how hard winning conference games on the road is. On this trip alone, I think that was our 2nd ever road win at MTSU and 2nd ever at UAB. Ever. In my opinion, we are a 2nd dominant post player away from blowing out road teams. Nonetheless, this team is having an incredible season. Everyone needs to be at the Super Pit this week.

  2. Biggest regular season games in Denton in a long time. We need to take care of business to make sure that next game against WKU is here. Because we are going to have to beat them if we want the auto NIT bid and #1 seed in the tournament.

  3. They go by Louisiana...don’t know why they changed it and don’t really care but I do get irritated when people still refer to UNT as North Texas State....so I’m sticking with Louisiana.

  4. 10-2 in conference. 16-9 overall. Only team in C-USA with a winning record on the road. Love how we get after it on defense. Let’s go Mean Green. Finish!

  5. I wish him well, but to be honest, I'm not a fan of transferring to see if the grass is greener. Not just in our case but other as well. It's one thing if your not getting playing time, or maybe a coaching change, but when a G5 player has a good career and seems to be wanting to test the greener field, not so much. I would never, for example, have wanted to see Mason transfer. I think it would have damaged his legacy. I know more and more people want the player to almost be able to come and go as they please, but I, personally, believe it is taking away form the game.

  6. To have a facility named after Dickey and none after first Odus Mitchell or Fry is a crime. Hell, if I were DD, I would be embarrassed.

  7. Our three JUCO signees have been playing pretty lights in conference play. Javion Hamlet 16.7/2.9/5.4 averages with shooting splits of 52.7%/32.1%/93% and turning it over just above 2 times per game, with most of those coming in the first 3 conference games. Has also missed 5 straight threes which dropped his percentage by almost 10%, but he has been elite offensively overall, especially late in games. James Reese 10.3/3.4/0.8 averages with shooting splits of 52.9%/45.8%/80% and adding 1.2 steals a game while playing really good perimeter defense. Also making over 2 threes a game, and many of which have been huge. Thomas Bell 7.2/6.3/1.6 averages with shooting splits of 53.6%/52.6%/57.1% and has passed Deng Geu as Mccasland’s most trusted 4 as he’s playing about 5 minutes more per game in conference play. Mccasland and his staff deserve huge credit for these three additions. They were all highly regarded JUCO players who had plenty of options but the staff really zeroed in on these guys and stuck the landing on all 3. There’s a lot of talk about Mccasland’s late season collapses in his brief D1 HC career but these guys have come in and put this roster above any of his previous ones. On the team now to execute when it really matters.

  8. Why was this game so big? McNeese has built a very solid program, were undefeated, and had outscored their four opponents by a combined 36 to 1. This McNeese Tournament was designed to showcase their team by bracketing them to meet national softball power Louisiana in the tournament finals. North Texas spoiled that plan by beating the Cajuns and removing them from contention. This is the only Cajuns loss for the season, and they have outscored their other opponents 22 to 3. North Texas further rained on the fiesta by shutting out the McNeese offensive juggernaut in the championship game. Great win Mean Green... Cowgirl Classic Champions! It's great to be bringing home the trophy, especially against this type of competition.

  12. And how bout Kourtney Williams, bless her heart. She rarely get to start. But when it counted most she stepped to the plate and used every bit of her 5 foot 3 inch frame and took one of the country’s top pitchers down town. Amazing. Rick

  15. What if... Students were issued an old fashioned raffle ticket as they enter the game. At halftime the students would drop the ticket in the bucket, keeping the stub, and the "must-be-present" drawing held directly after the game. The winner gets a pretty decent prize like $1K ,or equivalent of some such. Keep your stub because it's good for a free whatever from the concession at the next home game.

  16. You know Brett cannot write an article about UNT without bringing up the fact that we lost to a team before even if that loss was 30 years ago.

  18. My problem is how he handled himself this year. After the injury he wasn’t on the sideline with his teammates but up in the stands wandering around. I wish him well but I won’t be following him.

  19. 42 and 64 at UNT with a 34-22 conference record. Now that conference record doesn’t look too bad except when you remove the 26 straight victories out of the middle and are left with a 8-22 conference record. He was 5-11 in the big west and 4-10 in the Sun Belt once USU, NMSU, and Idaho weren’t around for us to beat on. He lost to FAU in 2004 and Troy in 2001 before they were in the Sun Belt. If they had been in the conference his record conference winning streak would’ve been halved to 13 games. Now don’t get me wrong here, I am not saying he did no good here because he did, however I think it is important to point out that we have had more important and successful people come through our athletic programs for whom to name facilities after.

  20. So a coach that won four straight conference championships and got us to a bowl for the first time in 50+ years isn't worthy of a HOF spot? Good grief.

  26. It really should be in the 6-7k range. Heck, with our numbers we should be selling out every game. But I’m starting to wonder if it’s going to take an NCAA appearance for things to really take off from an attendance perspective. Our fan base takes FOREVER to build and overnight to dismantle.

  27. Give great credit for his conference winning streak. However, he was his own worst enemy and should have been fired long before he was. I can understand granting McIndale his wish to name a practice field after DD, NT was that desperate for money. Dickey's losing record and a propensity to speak negatively about NT, was not exactly HOF fodder. Whoever made that decision was either very stupid or just unaware of his history. A lot is being made of DD's lack of resources, seldom mentioned is that the vast majority of his wins were over Belt teams with even less resources. DD quit on NT because he thought he was too good for the job. I am happy that Dickey has resurrected his career as an assistant coach, but I think overall he was a bad hire for NT. I believe there were a lot of coaches that could have duplicated his success at NT without the drama that DD caused.

  28. prepare to be disappointed, I hope you we have 5k there but our fan base or lack of a fan base is a problem. This team is fun to watch and never quits.

  30. Yeah, I can certainly understand the mental effect of the injury and if he decided to never play again I'd understand. His reaction is the kind you'd see if the staff was being reckless with his health and he blamed them for his injury. His behavior is odd.

  34. The women blow a double digit lead late in the third to lose 51-50 vs UAB. I have to ask, is it coaching or is it the lack of depth on the bench? A big part of me thinks it's coaching because at this point I think it's mental with these girls. They get big leads and it seems as soon as a team makes a run, their faces change and they get the look of oh here we go again and then they go completely cold. I knew Terriell Bradley would be missed, but right now it seems as if she was the whole team.

  35. It is not injuries as much as a lot of redshirts. Transfers that have to sit out a year. NT has 5 redshirts and that gives NT little depth and than add several out with injuries. Playing with 8 players now, which is hard but not impossible. The WKU men only have 8 players available and seldom play more than the starting five. The problems with this team goes deeper than depth.

  36. No issue. Each of us is entitled to his/her own opinion. To be honest, at the end of the day what this particular person does will most likely never have a direct impact on me. For me it's just a case not agreeing with he way the transfers are happening. As I said before, if you want to transfer because your not getting playing time, or perhaps the HC was fired then it's one thing, but to transfer because you feel your better than the place you are at is another.

  40. There was a ton of on campus promotion during the mid to later years of the Johnny Jones era. That and the on court results eventually led to a very respectable and reliable student crowd.

  41. Western barely beat Southern Mississippi at home. With their lack of a bench, they may be wearing down like we did last year. They have struggled on the road and winning at UTSA will be a challenge. Winning 1 of 2 next week may be enough to get the top pod seed and home games against Western and La Tech.

  42. I doubt this very much. The memory of his catch against nutsack will be one of his best life moments. He worked his ass of here and he was a very reliable player, played hard, blocked on the outside and wanted to win. The sightings around the stadium after his injury were strange and disappointing but I never personally saw him so not really letting that affect the narrative on him. The way things are now this stuff happens and it sucks but he has an opportunity to have one more yr to improve his draft stock with an established qb somewhere. Hard to blame as much as it hurts. Very curious though, as @MeanGreenTexan pointed out, of the status of his knee. #stayhard8

  45. If you graduate then move on and play at another school elsewhere then you certainly should be recognized for your accomplishments here if they were HOF worthy. Otherwise you will still be in the stats/record book anyways. I hope he’s able to Get things turned around and do well down the road. Rick

  46. Granted, Dickey did give North Texas an exciting run and did so with poor facilities and poor funding. That four year run was great. HOWEVER, Dickey obviously then stopped recruiting and the program sank. THE UNPROFESSIONAL manner in which Dickey departed was an ugly “fuc# you” felt by most of us fans. Once fired he never should have been allowed to coach the remaining season. Rick Villarreal totally mishandled Dickey’s departure, necessary as it was.
