  1. I was literally 6 numbers away from winning the Mega Millions

  2. This is where the 1-AA debacle for 12 years just killed us. We would have such a higher rate of giving today from the graduates of the 80s and early 90s that are at points in their lives where they start making good money. Instead, we literally nuked two decades of fans because of this. Things have improved greatly here, but the reality is that our lack of support for athletics here for so long insured we will always be stuck in a non-power status. It’s just so sad that athletics got treated that poorly for so long by the BOR and administration, the faculty, student body, and local citizenry.

  4. I said it during RVs time and I’ll say it again. You need ten years of success to cultivate a donating culture. You don’t have to go 10-2 every year but you can’t win three games in two years and have multiple coaching fires. WB has done a great job but it’s not changing after a few seasons.

  7. I seem to recall something the AD put out saying MGSF increased by over 30% last year with a 5 year goal of 100% increase. We'd pass 2-3 schools but still not enough. But if we keep winning at the current clip, it will grow exponentially. FY 2017 would have been 16-17 season. That was the season following the 5 years where we had 1 winning season in football, men's and women's basketball combined. No doubt that would have been our worst year.

This more than likely means we will be hosting their travel partner ODU 2 days later on Saturday. Could be very pivotal as it would be the last game before C-USA Bonus Play starts. 12. We were literally 54 points away from going 12-1. As in, we were winning the 3 games we lost during the regular season by 54 points before coughing those leads up. Good to see coach Hopson is reaching for straws to instill false confidence in his guys. Should work well for us, LATech, & maybe UAB and/or FAU later this year.

  13. I will say this about USM. They do have some pretty devoted fans. I stopped in MS a couple of years ago for lunch on the way from FL, and talked to the restaurant owner who was all about the school. He had good things to say about UNT as well, but was really hyped about USM. So much so that he was keeping me from eating my BBQ. And I was pretty hungry.

  15. As an Austin resident, I can tell you the Longhorns are a team that does not underestimate G5 opponents and has a reputation for never losing one of those games. They have a good team this year, and a win by La Tech just isn't going to happen. Especially in Austin.

  16. We werent there too long ago... taking body bag games to get $$$. I think UTSA had put the cart before the horse building this program. Now they are having to take their lumps and call it a "rivalry" Doesn't matter how you polish it... its still a turd

I'll hang up and listen.

  21. honestly, if it was only this I'd be sitting on my front porch with a big bowl of popcorn and a nice glass of bourbon enjoying the chaos. GMG is a deep dive into the human condition. that's what keeps me coming back. it's an anthropological study and therapy all in one. This is controlled with no meaningful repercussions (save for the occasional redneck wanting to fight you in the Apogee parking lot) A racist president does have real life ramifications. it's dangerous. it emboldens the worst of our society. it normalizes the caging of human beings. and the weighting of political biases over principle on the part of this racist's supporters is either cowardice or acceptance.

  23. As for the future, the Roadrunners have games lined up against the University of Texas. Starting in 2022, the Roadrunners will play the Longhorns every other season in Austin, Texas. This matchup is highly anticipated and is expected to soon be a rival for the small San Antonio school. Speaking to the media for the first time since UTSA announced a five-game series against Texas, Roadrunners coach Frank Wilson called the games “tremendously significant.” UTSA will travel to Austin to face Texas in 2022, 2024, 2026, 2028 and 2030. “Our desire was to be the best we can be and maximize our potential,” Wilson said. “The only way we can do that is to play people like that.” read more: https://lastwordoncollegefootball.com/2019/06/19/utsas-increasing-schedule-strength/ https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.expressnews.com/sports/college_sports/utsa/amp/North-Texas-the-favorite-in-balanced-Conference-14104114.php

  24. Here's the VERY simple Cliff notes of getting more donors- Years 1-3 You win and it rallies the people who are there thick and thin and they bump up their donations or maybe it's easier to get more money out of the few big donors. But overall it's a percentage change, not a cultural change. We've been bad or up and down so long that it probably feels like a lucky, passing phase to casual fans. Years 3-5 Winning becomes more of an expectation and the excitement grows however this is about when you lose your coach due to success. Also the CONCEPT of giving money to the athletic department just starts to enter people's brains who are new to the scene because of the success. People want to be part of the success so while the culture isn't there, it's percolating. Also, if you are a smart AD you make a good replacement coaching hire but also use the opportunity to tell wealthy people associated with the program "If you want this to continue, now's the time to step up." Hopefully five years of success has dulled the skepticism. Years 5-7 The success starts to pay off and the begging, kicking, knocking down doors, and begging some more for donations decreases from 95% of the time to about 80% of the time. Seriously, I doubt there's a G5 AD out there who doesn't hustle constantly for donations. But by now the concept of being a donor to the program has gone from "Nah, not for me" to "Yeah, I'm a member of the MGSF" and selling bigger projects to more successful donors is less of a tough sell. I went to a Boise State game last year and it's not like their tailgate scene or game presentation is any better than ours but EVERYTHING IS BOISE STATE. It's the place to be. People are bought in. We sat next to two older guys in the upper deck that couldn't fathom not going to a home game. It's just what they do. So yeah, it's going to take a while longer and some more good decisions along the way. I'm not even sure if a single event can speed up the process but I'd sure like to kick the hell out of A$M next year and test the theory.

  32. Here in this booming Dallas exurb, a landscape of construction scaffolds and hard hats anchored by the Cowboys’ lavish practice facility, Conference USA on Wednesday hung its Stetson on a trophy that greeted attendees at the league’s football media days. It’s the Bowl Challenge Cup, won by C-USA last year for going 4-2 in postseason games. The previous three winners were the Big Ten, the ACC and the SEC. “To me, that tells everybody who we are,” said Alabama-Birmingham coach Bill Clark, whose team won the league championship last year. read more: https://www.google.com/amp/s/pilotonline.com/sports/college/old-dominion/football/article_05e91398-a8e0-11e9-aa9d-7faf6d218060.amp.html

  34. Hmmmm..this doesn't look good if you consider what most seem to want UNT to be. That is to have a university athletic department that is The Leader of CUSA and second to none! I feel confident the AD and all associated with the athletic department and University are addressing this issue.

  38. When comparing the treatment of Trump to Obama you are creating a false equivalence. At no time during Obama's presidency was he accused in court of raping a 13 year old child. https://www.scribd.com/doc/316341058/Donald-Trump-Jeffrey-Epstein-Rape-Lawsuit-and-Affidavits?irgwc=1&content=10079&campaign=Skimbit%2C%20Ltd.&ad_group=33330X1169095X6dba162cea1f9939e661fd64b79a1020&keyword=ft750noi&source=impactradius&medium=affiliate#fullscreen Trump was. Along with 21 other sexual assault allegations. At no time did videos surface of Obama partying with a guy that has been found guilty of raping children. But Trump of course did. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AUDr_c2PalI At no point did one of Obama's businesses defraud people out of their hard earned money. But Trump? https://www.nbcnews.com/politics/white-house/federal-court-approves-25-million-trump-university-settlement-n845181 At no point did Obama inherit 450 million dollars from his father and not pay taxes on it. Nor did Obama claim that he was a self-made man that only got a 1 million dollar loan from his father. Trump? https://www.nytimes.com/interactive/2018/10/02/us/politics/donald-trump-tax-schemes-fred-trump.html Obama did not have pretty much his entire staff quit on him inside of two years. Nor have multiple close associates going to prison. Obama did not go on Howard Stern and brag about his infidelity. Obama did not go on Howard Stern. Obama did not tell American citizens to go back to their country. The list just goes on and on. My point is that there is a very good reason for people to treat Trump like garbage because he very much IS garbage. As for Obama there is PLENTY politically and ideologically I disagreed with him on but I never questioned his integrity and character. There will always be varying amounts of political discourse and anger in this country and frankly we should not have it any other way. Heated debate only makes us stronger. The complete rage directed at Trump is more about the character of the man. He has displayed over and over again to be a terrible human being.

  40. telling a person of color to go back to where they came from and separating them from "people of the United States" is racist. plain and simple. which Omar comments? on Israel? "Israel has hypnotized the world, may Allah awaken the people and help them see the evil doings of Israel." that one? she apologized for the "hypnotized" aspect as an unintended trope, but the sentiment is one I happen to share and agree with. put simply...criticism of Israel, Netanyahu, expansion of settlements and the United States' often default support of the narrative of one protagonist and one antagonist in Israel/Palestine is not criticism of Judaism, Jews and is certainly not Semitic.

  41. I think the lessons we learn from Trump is that if you say something enough people will believe it and if you act foul enough people will grow numb to it. At this point there is literally nothing the man could do that his base wont excuse him for. Fraudulent businesses, overt racism, tax fraud, sexual assault, obstruction of justice and so on. This whole shit show is a deep dive into the human condition.

I knew he was a trainwreck and I've only been around a little over 35 years. You could see anything he did from the 80s on and know he's a mess.

  43. Maybe. I will believe it when C-USA teams tear it up in OOC play. Otherwise this is just typical preseason propaganda. That said I don't blame coach doc for saying it... i mean what else could he say that doesn't hurt him.

  44. I'd be interested to see what our median donation size is. Are we doing a bad job of courting small or big dollar donors? To be this far behind in the donor game is pathetic. Maybe its a categorization thing with a lot of our big money donations being accounted for differently? At this point we're left looking for excuses. I'm willing to bet these numbers are better after last year. But one year isn't going to completely change the picture. Not great.

  45. Our offense was a clown show all year, culminating in the ignominy that was the Cheez It Bowl. I can’t even bear to eat those any more. We’re hoping that this years offense is addition by subtraction in that we hope to have newcomers at the skill positions make a positive impact and our QB’s won’t turn the ball over at every opportunity. You guys will have an elite offense but seem to have lost some important pieces to a defensive unit that was trending up. How do you guys feel about your D?
