  1. Great story Ward. However.... There is an old Jerry Clower story that goes something like this.... "A young man asked the old coon hunter, what do you feed them dogs?....The old man says I feed them old shoes. Old shoes says the young man? How you get them coon dogs to eat them old shoes? The old man says, you starve them dogs long enough they will eat anything!" My point is, if we ever get real dog food as a fan base, we might just eat all of it up like we've never had good dog food before..... As evidence by the large boisterous crowd less than two weeks ago at a certain final game of a certain final championship. I know with the current political climate, the glass is half full for you Ward, but you are going to see a giant crowd at apogee in your lifetime....Write it down.

  6. To change it, they need to start hitting up recent and soon to be graduates. Get them hooked early and keep them around. Talk about how just a small $25 donation is not a huge expense, for them but will do a world of good for the program. Also, show and bring in examples of what is has done for programs like TCU (as they moved up) and other programs like Memphis, UH, etc..

  7. The answer is a little more complex. RV ran the department for 15 years. In that time we needed to build FBS G5 caliber facilities, while playing in the Sun Belt, where we were the only Texas program. Not an ideal situation. Although he had a difficult task, it still could have been handled better. But, at this point, there is no reason or need to open old wounds. Add in the fact that our programs have struggled for about a decade, and it isn't very hard to see why we are raising less money with more alums. I will consed that with our recent success, the numbers need to be improving rapidly. But, that will come down to marketing. Our leadership at North Texas must come to the realization that we can't just market like other programs. Being located in DFW creates a very unique set of circumstances for North Texas. Not only do we have to contend with two other FBS programs within 50 miles of our campus, and the two large state flagships (Texas & Texas A&M), but we also have the major professional teams in our market. I'm not complaining, just pointing out that we have to develop a better marketing strategy if we intend to capture the attention of our alumni or the general population. I have ideas about how we could effectively market our teams and increase our following and donations, but I don't know that anyone in the athletic department or on this board wants to hear them.

  8. BTG that is completely wrong. Do some research before posting. Alfred Morris ran a 4.67 at the combine in 2012. Kareem Hunt ran a 4.62 last year. I also posted the RBs times from 2015-2017. His time is pretty solid. https://www.sbnation.com/nfl/2016/2/26/11120566/nfl-combine-results-2016-running-back-drills-workouts https://www.sbnation.com/nfl/2015/2/22/8087311/nfl-combine-2015-results-running-backs-melvin-gordon https://www.sbnation.com/nfl/2017/3/2/14796202/2017-nfl-combine-results-running-backs-leonard-fournette-dalvin-cook-christian-mccaffrey

  10. All of the above plus Idaho for our first bowl game. In 1aa bowl games were a pipe dream now we were heading to one, in New Orleans! Also loved the Nevada game, getting the monkey off our back in a soaker. Beating Texas a&m in the sp then driving home to Santa Fe that night to work the next day. That 15 minute power nap at the Texas border was gold! gmg

  12. I didn't say r.v. hired hedlund. I said baker hired........litrell, Mitchell, stracke, Kee, llama, hedlund.... My point is there are a few people that have so much hatred for a person that they can't and won't ever let it go. Hatred for someone that still supports this place with his time and money. Hatred for a person that when he got here and the first day I met him had a 5 gallon bucket sitting on his desk catching rain water from a roof in a piece of crap building next to a piece of crap stadium, and somehow with smoke and mirrors closed a piece of crap golf course, bought a private school campus, moved a soccer team from intramural fields to a dedicated stadium, built a dedicated athletic center.....apogee....and on and on, all while being hamstrung with no money or support from a university that we all agree did not want to support. And we call this "group of 17" idiots for donating and following this vision. All of which to a person still donate large sums of money today. But hey, I don't give one shit about a university that gave me an education, gave my wife an education, my mother two degrees, my brother in law two degrees, my sister in law two degrees, my friend old guy student.... It was all because I wanted to keep my drinking buddy....... You can all go to hell, I'll stay right here in Denton, Texas

  16. Lol, I am just picking on you. There are other running backs on the list that have run slower 40's and have been productive in the NFL. Yes, Morris was a scheme fit, but he was productive in the NFL. Wilson's injury history does scare me, but he has the athleticism to play in the NFL. I don't think he would be used as an every down back. There were a lot of NFL teams at this years pro day. Eric Capper said the largest amount in his 17 years here. So regarding your first post, scouting exposure shouldn't be an issue.

  24. Just going to say.. Preston left a ton to be desired.. believe he had multiple bonehead plays vs Iowa in the 2nd half and during Troy he even got replaced.. I think a major question is how/who slots into the DB group from this recent class. K.Davis is an LB now (likely on the inside to replace EJ), Gibbs, Williams, Crosby, Morris? Would love to see Gibbs at CB, having a taller, willing to tackle guy on the edge is something we need.. Williams is a great FS/Centerfielder and his size could be his biggest disadvantage. Morris seems to be that Rover spot to challenge T. Davis and Crosby and he anything on the skill positions.

  25. Very good post. I think in year three we need to start seeing linemen and guys on defense who Littrell recruited actually step up and become good CUSA-level players. Its one thing to sign guys at certain positions and say they fit your system and will be good despite maybe not being that highly recruited. It's another for them to actually become that. Even Alabama has underclassmen jumping upperclassmen who are legit SEC players. You want to see these signees show something and not just fall in line behind guys who are older than them. Especially when those guys who are older are not necessarily all-CUSA guys.

  31. People hate it, but... 1.) Number 1 will always be the FIU 7OT game, just because it was the weirdest game i have ever been to. I was going to leave in the 3rd qtr, because it was such a crappy game, and my friend convinced me to stay... 3 hours later, i found myself with about 1,000 other people in the slowest field rush ever... As far as my proudest games: You could just peg the entire 2013 season up there. Ball St., Rice HOD bowl., but... 2.)the Stand in the Rice game was just unbelievable... Rice was definitely still in the game on that drive, then Orr, Trice, Lee and the rest of the gang just said eff you and stood up play after play. by the time it was over, i think they had run about 4 minutes off the clock while the ball was inside our ten yard line! We got the ball back and the game was in hand. It was one of the few times in my career that i felt like UNT was a big time program. 3.)Loved the Dunbar monsoon game against middle Tenn. also a game with very few people in attendance, and I wish we could have kept them from scoring. honorable mention includes tearing down the goalposts against Idaho in 2004 and demolishing SMU in 2014

  32. As a 'newbie'.. 1. The "Stand". I still get chill bumps when I watch it. 2. The WHOLE 2013 Season. The Georgia game was freaking awesome as was ALL the road wins! Ball State was nuts. Ryan has told me stories of the Ball St. O-line puking their guts up right on the line. The reactions and comments made by he and his team mates are priceless! 3. Lance against Mid Tenn. All that has to be said. 3a. Any time Brelan touched the ball. 4. Kansas St. 2010 game in Fouts with Chico coaching. That was a hell of a show. 5. Kansas St game in 2012. Gave them everything they wanted and more. 6. My proudest.... the Alabama game in 2011. The boy went toe to toe with probably the best O-line in the country the whole night. 7. Last but not least. Becoming a member of the Mean Green family!

  36. I don't get the need by some to pile on past coaches and administrators. Were they perfect? No. Were they worthless and accomplish nothing? No. RV and co made advancements during his tenure. Can anyone deny that? Was it time for a change? Yes. I don't think anyone can deny that. I think WB and his team are doing a great job. But they inherited a better situation than RV did and it's better in part because of RV. I'm not an RV friend or apologist. But realistically, he gave 15 years to my school. I have no doubt he tried his best and I can be mature enough to give him credit for his accomplishments. The rest of this debate doesn't help NT at all. Would someone else have accomplished more the last 15 years. Maybe, maybe not. We'll never know. As for the elite donors that "kept RV in place," I have to believe their love of NT outweighed anything to do with RV. So maybe you feel RV was awful and had them duped. Maybe you feel RV did great and gets a bad rap. Either way, criticizing those donors makes little sense because they obviously care about NT. As evidenced by the fact, I think everyone of them is still involved.

  38. 2002 season opener against UT. I had just enrolled at UNT so this was my first experience as a fan. We may have lost but watching Booger have his way with the UT O-line was a treat (I was never a fan of the shorthorns to begin with). This was a talent loaded team that was fun to watch give a lot of bigger name schools hell.

  39. Your are correct. Baker got the liberty Christian campus done, got the stadium built, hired Littrell, Mitchell, stracke, kee, llama, hedlund....convinced Ernie to get on board, on boarded Westheimer for the golf practice facility...... it was time for r.v. to go, but don’t constantly call people who donated millions to move this thing along, and are still donating millions to keep it moving idiots. It’s old and tired two years down the road.

  40. I don't think it will. Draft stock really relies on a lot more than the 40. If he had run really bad or really well, they're d have to go back to the tape and re-assess. This was middle-of-the-pack, so I don't think it means a lot.

  41. Pro Day at UNT was a wonderful experience! Going in, I wasn't sure how much I would be able to see...but it ended up being a great day. I was part of the crowd that was counting and cheering as my son did his bench press and then moved on to the broad jump and then measured his vertical jump. It was beautiful outside when they moved to the stadium completed runs and drills there. I am a proud UNT parent and we are thankful for the opportunity.

  43. Yeah...it has certainly been enjoyable. Just the enjoyment of competitiveness is a breath of fresh air, winning aside. This basketball team were plays away from being a 26 or 27 win team with all of their nailbiting losses. It's unbelievable. Football program needs to take a page from the bball team and learn about competing through your losses. Either way, both programs look to be setup for multiple more years of success. Hopefully each program can bottle the momentum throughout the off season and unleash it on Sep 1.
