  6. Great News coming out of Baltimore!!! The article also has a nice video with Orr. Zachary Orr Taking Lead At Weak-Side Linebacker Competition The former undrafted free agent is in line for a starting job next to C.J. Mosley in the middle of the defense. Perhaps the most up-in-the-air position battle of training camp is starting to gain some clarity. The Ravens came into the summer with an open linebacker spot next to C.J. Mosley in the middle of the defense, and third-year defender Zachary Orr is making a strong case to win the job. “He’s in the lead,” Linebackers Coach Don Martindale said about Orr. http://www.baltimoreravens.com/news/article-1/Zachary-Orr-Taking-Lead-At-Weak-Side-Linebacker-Competition-/1696cfee-0d5a-441a-8d7a-8ffdf03f7b38

  8. Maybe you ought to take a harder look. AState has moved into the range of AAC in attendance. We now self-fund $15 million getting us in the ballpark as Houston. Built a huge new press box with premium seating, new indoor practice facility, next up is a new field house with offices, new training room, new weight room, new meeting rooms, and even more premium seating. Outpaced most of CUSA in season ticket sales. Outdrawing 75% of CUSA in football.

Wait...you repeatedly getting yourself banned and then defiantly creating new dumb names and posting that the moderators can't control you is something you now get to play the victim card about? I swear this participation trophy generation and the way it whines all the way to the highest levels to get its way is just disgusting.

  15. Really excited for this defense. Especially now we have what looks like a solid 3 man rotation at NT. The whole team will be much more aggressive it seems than the least couple of seasons under Mac

  21. I am just glad to see a young man of his ability and, but more importantly, character represent North Texas. I would take a thousand Zach Orr's over some of the meatheads representing other, bigger universities that get draft just because of the school they attended.

  22. They could easily still have 6-figures in debt even at UNT-Dallas law. $15,000 tuition alone + Cost of Living in a year x 3 years of school. It's adds up quick. All the debt to be placed in probably one of the worst job situations for law students in America, with no alumni job connections to begin with. There are undergrad UNT folks who are lawyers posting on this thread. Their suggestion, long ago, was: don't do it.

  23. But in all seriousness, congrats to Zach for doing what we all believed he was capable of doing. Great kid from a great family. It'll be interesting to see if Nick and Chris join him in the NFL in a few years. That wouldn't surprise me one bit.

  26. He looks like a top 5 maybe top 3 QB in CUSA. For sure top 5. In in total control out there. No incompletions in the 0-10 range. He suffered some droops down the field.

  28. Mistake on the DBs. Ashton Preston only started one game when Davis was suspended for a "bad attitude" Davis played almost every snap at corner on defense other than WKU. He made 3 of the few big plays that were made last season. Not sure how this season will play out, but anyone who knows dbs and paid attention...nevermind...

  30. If we're dreaming... Where's the NFC East? Look, the ultimate end goal should be something like Big12, but we're at the bottom right now. It is nowhere near realistic for UNT to go straight from the bottom of C-USA to any better conference, let alone a P5. We have to work our way up. For this reason, I chose the AAC. The MWC would be great as well. Gotta win first though.

  32. The more I see, hear about this guy, the more I think we may have something special here. I poo-poo'd him a little bit when he first committed because he was like a man among boys on his highlight tape due to coming from a small school. I worried that he would be a little slow and might fold due to the competition being his size now. He would no-longer dominate like he had been. Starting to think I was wrong. He may take a redshirt this year, and that will be fine. Expecting big things from this fella by 2018 & beyond.

  36. My 6 year old son and i were there. It was very nice with the cloud cover, but the team looked like it needs every second of practice it has left to be ready for smu sept 3rd. Qb mix looked interesting. I was kind of mostly impressed with our oklahoma wonder boy me fine. Felt like he kept making plays... even after lots of drops. Alec and josh looked ok. But, everybody needs reps. 89 made a great move on some poor db for a long td, and number 4 trucked what looked like a lb or de for another td. That looked like the highlights to me.

  37. Good recap Harry. I'll add my $0.02 on it: OFFENSE Smiley - disagree that he's near the top of the WR rung. Appears to freelance more than the other WR's and when his number was called it wasn't pretty. Needs to step up, or may not be playing too much after the suspension. Rutherford - by far the best day he's had. Had great chemistry with multiple QB's (over 10 catches I believe). Looks to be emerging in this offense. Goree - not a good day today, but he's still fun to watch move around and run. Long, fluid athlete who should flourish in this scheme. Wyche - clearly stood out of the newcomers. Great looking athlete who will be a big contributor in this offense. Morris - night and day from spring. Game has slowed down. If we can protect him, he will put up gaudy numbers. Something like 18-27 today with several drops. Fine - how can you not love him? Great instincts, arm, and quick release. Agree with Bob Stoops that if he was a few inches taller, he'd have 70+ offers. Thankful he is here. Bussey - stud freshman. Big time player, who will play a ton this year. Good athlete, plenty big, and strong hands. Thompson - looks great from a physical standpoint, but didn't get many balls his way. O'Hara - tall kid who appears to be grasping it, and the game speed is a lot for him now. Has tools and should improve into a solid backup. Tucker - made some nice plays on catches out of backfield. Worst athlete of the backs by far, but a solid team player. Wilson - great burst and vision, looked like a big time RB in limited action. Ivery - big day today. Clearly seems to have come around since spring and ready to be significant. Buyers - didn't do much for me. Looked to play slow. Maki - appears to be starting fullback. Will stick his nose in there, loves contact. Smith - good young back, had some nice runs in traffics. Needs to redshirt and get stronger / faster. Offensive Line - looked okay. Need to give Morris another full second of clean pocket to work progressions. Khan - had a nice day as inside WR. Griffin - did not get many touches, and didn't see him really run. Wilson - good looking athlete who had two big drops. Dillman - in a knee brace. Smith - big, strong kid. Had a nice catch in traffic where he was hammered and hung on. Looked okay blocking and didnt make many plays overall. Pirtle - good sized kid who caught a perfectly thrown deep ball from his teammate, Fine. Robinson - made a nice long TD early. Drops, after that. DEFENSE Jenkins - please be ready next week! Peters - big body, somewhat stiff. Looks like he needs some agility and flexibility training. Combs - great frame and played well. Looks NFL-esque. Brooks - made several good plays but looked gassed at the end. Reasonable considering he's been covering this offense all week. Minor - a couple of big hits. Davis - injured, dnp. Finney - looks to be greatly improved. Active and looked comfortable. Wheeler - major improved, very effective pass rusher off edge. Look for him to have a big year. Gray - looked solid. Ejiya - great frame (6'3" 225ish) and speed. Just needs to learn it. Will play a lot. McClain - active all over field. Preston - made several nice plays in run game and against short passes. Roberts - looks healthy and big. Scott - really looks comfortable, had a huge hit on Kelvin Smith on pass reception. It appears that defensive scheme asks him to do less in this system. English - effective when in there. Moore - strong and quick when in there. Young - absolute stud in the middle. Trashed the middle of our 1 Offensive Line. Made Rice / Henson / Woodworth look like rag dolls. Hamilton - what a monster freshman! Huge kid who will light you up. We don't have them look this good normally. Dilonga - solid, looks grown up. Johnson - solid day even though undersized. Ozuwugu - didn't notice him. Hood - he's huge. Can't wait to watch him play.

  39. I was busy talking with Chuck Mills and Coach Bahnsen, plus a "notable" supporter, but here are my observations. The defense still needs to improve greatly on their tackling. The DB's were punishing people and Finney got an interception off of Fine, but there were few big plays behind the line of scrimmage. But then, I don't think they were going 100% either. #4 Wyche, had a spectacular run up the middle in the scrimmage. But the question is this.....great running or bad tackling? He also had a great punt return, straight up the middle. But the same question applies. Having said that, Wyche is a good addition to the team. He has deceptive speed and he is a decisive (one-cut-and-go) runner with very good vision. #44 Smith, looked pretty good. Someone observed earlier in the week that he doesn't have blazing speed, but he makes people miss a lot.......I agree. Wilson and Ivery looked pretty much where they should be. And considering that Ivery did not participate in spring ball, that's pretty impressive. Tucker #25 also looked good out there. WR's 89 Willie Robinson should get the ball on short routes as much as possible. He had what I thought was one of the best runs of the day off a short route. 3 Gooree made some good catches and I don't remember any drops. 2. Rutherford made some impressive grabs, but dropped some easy catches in the ol' bread basket. Spectacular catches are great, but catching the "ordinary" throw-and-catch on third down is even more spectacular in my mind. That's a long way to say I REALLY HATE IT WHEN A RECEIVER DROPS THE EASY PASS WHEN IT COULD HAVE TURNED INTO A FIRST DOWN. 31 Buyers made some good plays. He'll be the one they would go to when they absolutely need the 3rd and three catch. Both 88 and 8 (the Oklahoma boys) looked good. They made the ordinary as well as (in the case of 88) the splashy catch. They look to be very confident receivers. 87 had some good catches and some disappointing misses. I'm intrigued by a 6'2" X 250lb WR. I don't remember seeing them throwing to Griffin. QB's As of 8-13-16 here is how I would rank them. 5 Morris, 6, Fine, 18, O'hara......... Shanbour advised me that he could not participate today. He also advised me that the situation was very temporary. Morris looked more "aggressive" in his play than what I observed in the spring. Yes he was Rah Rahing it up some, and he was, for the most part, delivering the ball where it needed to go. 18, O'Hara looked better than Greer, but he has a lot of catching up to do. He has pretty good speed as he ran one in for a score on a goal line situation. But his arm strength is not as good as Morris or Fine. But if you want to know who impressed me more, it was Fine (#6 on your program). Whatever energy Morris was trying to give to the offense by pseudo cheer leading....Fine was at a slightly higher level. He was a little faster than I imagined him being. His arm strength and accuracy were also better than I anticipated. But the most impressive thing to me was his confidence. He is clearly the leader when he is out on the field. He is not going to be a bus driver unless he is given strict orders to do so. Today he looked fearless out on the field. His whole body-language-attitude is "attack, attack". I'll make a reckless and/or bold statement after only seeing him once. If Morris (God forbid) goes down, and Shanbour is not able to play, I don't see how they don't put Fine out on the field. addendum: Both Chumley and Means were not dressed out today. Chumley was wearing a boot. I couldn't see what might have been wrong with Means.

  42. It is most certainly a scam. The IRS does not, in any circumstance, make contact via phone. Ever. Only written letter. We get that call at our desks every once in a while, put it on speaker and call the number back with a bunch of tax experts standing around the phone. Hilarity ensues.

  45. The disdain is that it doesn't fit the popular narrative that anything scheduled by RV must be awful and it takes up a schedule spot that some seem to think can be filled by UT, Ohio State or the like in a home and away series. The reality is it a very good series for both programs at this time. Both get an opponent that they match up with that their fans can easily make an away game. NT gets a very marketable game on their schedule that they should be able to compete with. SMU get an oc opponent that brings a lot of fans into Ford that they actually have some advantages over.
    2 points
  46. I don't understand the disdain for this series. All we have talked about all off season (and the past two offseasons) is the game with SMU. It allows us a home game every over year against a team our fans and students recognize and have disdain for. It allows us a road game every other year that is an easy road game to travel too.
