  1. I think because of the Benford/Brady controversy in Jonesboro that Brady, being the ass he is, is going to come bring the wood tonight and try to humiliate Benford and our team. That said, even if you as a fan gave up attending games, I hope you will at least come out and show appreciation for our seniors. It may also be the last time we see Tony Mitchell playing at the Super Pit. Regardless of what happened this season, the men's basketball team has been the shining beacon of light the past few years as for as the big 3 sports.

  2. We are ranked way too high. UNT is where head coaching careers go to die (especially High School coaches). Poor recruiting possibilities+almost a complete lack of winning history+student apathy+community apathy+2 far better funded FBS athletic departments within 50 miles+ an administration that only wants success if it comes on their terms (see: within their budget framework)= One of the worst jobs in the nation. It is what it is.

  3. No, no...that was in direct response the fact that you're capable of calling an entire generation "stupid" in one thread (this one) and then turning around and, phone or not, mis-spelling a good half dozen words in a 3 sentence paragraph (a paragraph that berates our education system, no less) and then not recognizing the irony/humor in that. If you feel that's not contributing to the conversation...you're absolutely right...but then again, when you've already resolutely made up your mind on every topic discussed here, what really is the point of doing anything short of busting chops?

  10. Is that not exactly what you did to kick off this little tit-for-tat? Never-the-less...my red-penning your posts seems to have sunk in...you spelled everything correctly in the above response (well...save for "soooooo", but I'm guessing that was to emphasize the extent to which I'm smarter...or you sext a lot and the "o" on your phone just happens to stick sometimes). 20s for only 3 more weeks, by the way. As to the crux of your post...what exactly is it that you want me to refute? The idea that taking one's news only from satire programs is foolish? OK...but so too would be ignoring those same programs whose primary end is showing just how ridiculous all the 24 hour news networks are, how they're all un-reliable news-sources and how they've all all-but killed legitimate journalism.

  11. I have come to this forum pretty much since the beginning. I honestly believe that we NT fans are about as down and depressed as I have ever seen here. I remember the excitement in the 80's from moving to 1AA to 1A. After some apathetic times in the 90's, we had the Sun Belt winning streak in FB. Even during the TD years, we had the stadium to get excited about. And, the mens BB program was consistently winning 20+ games. Recently, we finally get the CUSA bid we have all been waiting for, only to see some of the important CUSA teams bolt and get replaced by our former peers (and some that were never even on the radar......UTSA). Our athletic programs need a quick jolt in a major, major way right now. Apathy is setting in again and that is a thing worse than anger IMO. There is still a lot to be proud of as we all know. To me, getting new facilities funded and built is more difficult than hiring the right coaches. The latter can be a quick fix. The former can take a decade or more as we found out. We are also due our share of luck. I feel like the injury Gods have been more than unfair to NT over the last 5 years. Maybe we catch a break and our FB team can overachieve this coming season. This program needs some momentum to build from.....ANY momentum. To the athletes and coaches on our sports teams, we have your back and will be cheering. But, your school needs your full dedication and effort right now. You guys can help kick-start some great things at UNT. We don't expect you to go out and win the CUSA West this coming FB season. Make us proud. Give it your best and please find a way to pull out some wins (5 or 6 would be nice).

  15. But it's not BS, it happens to be true. http://www.snopes.com/politics/obama/ayers.asp ".....William (Bill) Ayers was one of the founders of the Weather Underground, a radical leftist organization formed in 1969 by a group of University of Chicago students who split with the campus-run Students for a Democratic Society (SDS) organization because they disagreed with the SDS's peaceful protest tactics against the Vietnam War. From 1970 until 1974, the Weather Underground carried out violent actions against the government, including bombings at NYPD headquarters, the U.S. Capitol building, the Pentagon and a San Francisco police station, while Ayers (and his wife, fellow Weather Underground member Bernardine Dohrn) went into hiding to evade the FBI. Ayers and his wife participated in some of the early bombings, but criminal charges against them were dropped in 1974 due to illegal evidence-gathering activities by authorities, and in 1980 the couple turned themselves in. Ayers and Dohrn emerged from hiding to become university professors in Chicago; Ayers specialized in education reform and served as an advisor to Chicago mayor Richard Daley, work through which Ayers became acquainted with Barack Obama in 1995. Ayers hosted a meet-the-candidate gathering at his home......" Rick

  17. Realistically, NT is not going to be up there with any Big 12 team and will have hard time to keep from falling far behind the BE conference.. Right now NT has to worry about UTEP, Rice and unfortunately is no lock to stay above the now severed Texas Twins. NT is going to have to be one of the best of CUSA to move up the Texas football chain. It can be done, but chances don't look all that great now.

  19. The AP/USA Today did not interpret Obama's answer any differently than the "slanted" article. http://usatoday30.usatoday.com/news/politics/2007-12-22-2414012588_x.htm The article also mentions, Not really indicating a change of conviction, but a change of view regarding expediency. Regardless, a "a single time the POTUS has suggested the disarming of all citizens" has been pointed out to you. But you'll deny it, because denial is apparently where you live.

  22. No school in America is better suited for Da'Shawn Hand than UNT. The scheme in place is set up for him to become an All-American as a freshman. He will challenge for the Lombardi and Nagurski Award annually here and be able to declare for the NFL Draft after three seasons. UNT has seasoned defensive line coaches, good climate, excellent academics, a new stadium, a thriving nightlife close to campus, and the albino squirrel. It is close enough to Dallas and Fort Worth to stretch out a piece, but far enough away to get the feel of a real college town. Plus, the coeds are hotter than fish grease. In short, UNT lacks nothing that other universities offer and Da'Shawn Hand is wasting his time considering them. He really belongs in Denton for the 2014 - 2016 college football seasons. And, in his heart of hearts, I know he knows this.

  25. Good thoughts, added debate: QB: Ramsey, again the best; no debate. Disagree on Washington and Stephenson. Washington was not at all like McNulty unless McNulty really has a good last three years. Washington was definitely a run first QB while Stephenson was a pass first player. WR Wrs were a loaded position for the Green. Barry Moore was a great possession receiver but Shanklin was the deep threat and focus of the defenses No comparison. RB, also a loaded position; Taylor was a solid rb, kind of like the current Byrd. He did fumble a lot and I would not compare him with many of those nominated. Pegram played on an awful team and took a terrible beating, I think if he played on a better team he would have numbers to match any NT back. DB: I think Smith and Dunlap are being short changed because it is reported they have less votes than some dbs who IMO are inferior to them. DL: Rex Johnson was good but again I think the top 4 should be run away choices. Elliot did have alleged issues at NT, he was at Minnesota I think were he started as a freshmen. The college Elliot unlike the pro Elliot was a very imposing physical athlete with something like 2% body fat. He in fact may have been a little too ripped thus the at least alleged issues.

  27. With the UNT/UNTHSC merger, we'll see a rebranding of the campuses (i.e., UNT at Denton, UNT at Fort Worth). It'd be odd to have the "University of North Texas at Denton School of Public Health" located in Fort Worth. There's no reason UNT can't become the #1 team in North Texas, and the state. Abilene Christian, Boise State, Sam Houston State, TCU, and Utah all became recognized programs after sustaining runs winning against "lesser" teams. In the Southland, Big West, and Sunbelt, UNT has had the opportunity to do the same thing and will again in C-USA.

  28. I agree that Washington should have been on the list so that people could have a chance to vote for him, but I totally disagree with you and Cooley about his abilities. He was way overrated. To put it in perspective for the new guys on the board, Ken Washington was Hayden Fry's Andrew McNulty. As I said in a previous thread, Joe Stevenson was a better QB than Washington. The best that ever played here were Ramsey, Case, Davis, Maher and Hall. Totally agree with this. Leaving out Silva was a huge oversight. But in the catagory of big oversights, how about Barry Moore being left off completely for wr. Ronnie Shanklin had a pro career, but according to the official stats he never led the team in receptions while he was here (67, 68, 69). Those reception leaders were James Russel (67) and Barry Moore (68-69). Ron Shanklin ended up have a larger total, but that was over three years. Barry Moore (like John Love) only played 2. On the all-time single season receiving record, Barry Moore is #2 and #5. Running Backs. How do you leave off our first ever (68) 1K rusher Leo Taylor? His career totals in rushing were 1672 vs Pegrams 1470. Plus Taylors best year(68) in all-purpose yards was 1652 vs Pegram's 1594. Plus, Taylor was playing on a team that played a D-1 schedule instead of a 1-AA schedule. Elliott was a transfer from a big 10 school (I think Wisconsin). As I recall, he had some issues there and was either kicked out or was asked to leave. He did well in the pros, but I think he had some "issues" there as well. I don't recall him getting into any trouble here. If I had my preferences for the top four, I would much rather see Corbin Montgomery get in the top four than Awasom....along with Greene, Chapman, and Hardeman. Also choosing Chapman over Rex Johnson was a tough call for me. How are they being short changed? They're both on the list. I think Jay Saad (#17 on your program) was an unfortunate omission from the DB list.

  31. "The Google stats should show you the value of choosing a descriptive title name for your new thread. Instead of "New Basketball Commit" it should instead say the players name, where they were at school last and what the news event is. These threads get us a ton of traffic and HOPEFULLY new fans of at least the site. The key term "Arthur Casimiro" brought in an astonishing 1,200 visits from Google.... including one particular poster who is a huge fan of basketball and lives in Granbury (but will remain unnamed) racking up 282 visits on that term alone....." So, what you're saying is we should take the names of 5-star recruits and create posts such as "5-star defensive tackle recruit can start immediately at North Texas." Magic. Why hasn't Coach Mac sneaked a handle and done this already?

  32. I got out of the habit of making Bet threads once it was obvious we were on a fast track to the cellar -- but MTSU is really worth noting. Right now I am seeing them listed as an 11 seed in Bracketology, which would be the highest a Belt rep has gotten since USA got a 10 back in 2008.

  33. That is pure greatness! I went to the concert where Willie played and then was at "the ranch" for the after party. The ranch he is talking about belonged to Rex Cauble. I also recall listening to that Tennessee game on the radio that Fry mentioned...sure as heck wish i had been there in person to see it. I was listening on the car radio and as the game ended was driving into my driveway at home...I parked that car and got out jumping and shouting for probably 5 minutes...then I started to wonder if the neighbors might be looking and calmed down a bit. I imagine that most Mean green fans know where they were the day UNT beat Tennessee...talk about a signature win! Greatness. Thanks so much, Green59, for finding and posting this interview! Greatness...pure Greatness!

  35. I wouldn't say student apathy anymore. Only bad student turnout was USA. Students sold out their section versus TSU and ULL and our student section trumps many similar sized schools. Like UH, for example.

  36. If not for our period of practically dropping off of the map for close to 20 years, I think we could already be one of the "big boys". We've had to spend so much time recapturing the hearts of members of our own culture that we haven't had the opportunity to get back to where we should have been. If we keep moving forward as we have been lately, within 2 decades we will be at the level of Tech, Okla. State, and others in the top conferences who aren't quite to the level of UT, Michigan, Notre Dame, etc but are damned close. Also, keep in mind that when we were at our peak in the 60s-70s, alumni participation was discouraged and there was no chance of even allowing funds to be proffered. With the bureaucratic problems (at least of that sort) behind us and our current progress in the right direction, I like where we're headed.

  37. I want nothing more than this coach and this team to use my haterade as motivation to win just throw it in my face. The vocal critics on this board when things are going bad are also the most vocal supporters when things are good. There is nothing more validating than support from your biggest critics.

  39. For sure. And I'm sure he would be sincere in his pleas at the time. Just like Obama. Those tears at his address after the shooting were absolutely genuine. If anyone says he was posturing, I would liken you to the same morons who think that pres. Bush's calm reaction to the 911 news in front of a classroom full of children was part of his 'conspiracy'. But, after all of the emotion clears, the same dude is still a politician. Dollar signs and continuation of power/prestige are all they are after.

  41. So the fact that the man spent his entire pre-presidential career representing Chicago, never said one bad thing about the ban, never lifted a finger to help citizens lawfully own guns and is quoted as saying "this law works for Chicago", and also did not allow his solicitor general to file a brief before the supreme court support the 2nd amendment when the Chicago gun ban was before the court mean nothing to you? Pretty funny. It just amazes me the links people who voted for Pres. Obama will go to defend him and make excuses for him. It's like he is more of a cult figure than a president to many of his supporters. It's sad that they just can't get it through their heads that Pres. Obama, like most politicians, will do whatever he thinks will benefit Pres. Obama. Either way, beer in Hot Springs.

  42. So dumb...if you don't like reading posts that are critical of a coach who has shown nothing but suck so far, as well as to a university that supports sports well below its peers by hiring coaches like Benford over and over and over...just ignore them. Hell, I want to be the most wrong poster in the history of the internet about Benford--I didn't like the hire to begin with and said so on this board. If he succeeds here, he will surely be Tech's head coach down the road, just like Johnny Jones and LSU. Because Benford changes players at a slightly faster pace than a hockey team changes lines, I doubt we will have to worry about that anymore--but again, prove me wrong, Benford and RV.

  43. The quote you provided changes nothing regarding the answer Obama gave on that questionnaire. Again, I never said that Obama has always openly advocated the disarming of all citizens. But keep twisting things around and playing word games in your deceitful way. Very reassuring as to the character of today's law enforcement officers.

  44. We should be able to be in the running with UH for sure. I wouldn't expect with Baylor being in the Big XII that we can get near them or Tech unless we have a few nationally recognized successful seasons that get us near a BCS bowl or something. Probably some ranking in the 60's would be realistic pending on the field success which leads to increased attendance, TV time, etc...
