  1. I wish you wouldn't curse so much in your posts. It really makes you seem unintelligent.

  2. Really? I doubt that if I failed at work it would take three years for me to get fired.

  3. A real pleasure to work for. He was really solid and he loved North Texas. What a lot of people don't know is that he had a great sense of humor. He did many thankless jobs for North Texas that the average person does not know about.....plus, he never really seemed to have much of an ego...real team player. We will miss you, Fred.

  6. I was asked to define what my definition of success is. I did not put a probability or a prediction if this is what was going to happen. New conference, better overall opponents, basically the same players with one more year of experience...........Could be very tough for anyone to have instant success. But that is where the bar has been set. Coach Benford has been around long enough to know that with the type of commitment some people have made, they expect the same success that made them able to help. Fail in business, get fired. Fail in coaching, get fired way faster. However, three months cannot define a body of work in this business. So UNT90, you can start shuddering, Benford will coach here at least three years.

  7. Kind of interesting that fans that express their disappointment in the worst sports letdown in NT history are branded as "haters". Does that mean the ones with the pollyannic view should be called "lovers"?

  8. I want a 20 plus win season next year and postseason play. Follow that up with more respect in two years, an NCAA bid at an 11 to 14 seed which gives us a chance to win. That is what I want. Any thing less than that is failure. And I expect the same thing on the women's side too. I will also go on record as saying we must win 7 next year in football. I will agree that all of this momentum in fundraising we have built up will vanish like a fog rolling out if there is no success on the field. I am tired of supporting a loser, even if it is our loser. 1. Give coaches and kids tools to be successfull (aka facilities). This takes money. 2. Hire the right people at every level. This takes money 3. Fund scholarships for student athletes. This takes money Hope to have a beer with some of you "haters" in hot springs. That includes you emmitt. David

  9. He isn't the head coach and doesnt have final say in anything about this program. Why would there be any negative posts? Sports are results oriented. Our results with the most talented team in our history beyond suck. But you are right, Evans would make a great interm coach when we finally decide to ax Benford. While we are issuing questions, I have one for you. If we win less than 10 games next year, will you admit this is a collosal failure of a coaching hire?

  11. Good for him. He's done great things.....in the past. As in all sports it's about the now. Much respect but this coaching staff and team is beyond a disappointment.

  12. You guys have a long way to go if you want to be on par with us. That being said, UNT has the potential to do it. However,at one point or another, North Texas will be North Texas and will find a way to screw up again.

  14. We should be able to be in the running with UH for sure. I wouldn't expect with Baylor being in the Big XII that we can get near them or Tech unless we have a few nationally recognized successful seasons that get us near a BCS bowl or something. Probably some ranking in the 60's would be realistic pending on the field success which leads to increased attendance, TV time, etc...

  15. UNC-CH may well be hiding a bunch of things under the rug considering that other people, staff included, have come forward saying that they've been pressured to underreport assault cases like this and the like. That said, I'd like to think the woman in question should've gone to see police about this since it is a criminal case.

  16. If we win more than 20 games next year and win a game in the NCAA's I'll drive the effing Benford bandwagon. The chance of that happening is pretty damn low.

  18. Anyone realize that NT is at the limit for football scholarships? Sure some may come open, but the days of NT signing players at will and giving a lot of walk ons ships may be over for a while.

  20. I'm excited to see position battles at near every single position...the product of finally being back at the 85 scholarship total. I'd say really only Lemon, Y'Barbo, Akkune and Zach Orr should feel pretty comfortable in their starting spot...and none of them strike me as the type to be complacent. That said, if quarterback turns into a legit position "battle", I think we're in for another long and frustrating season.

  21. When did coach Evans get elevated to Head Coach? Damn, I'm excited! Nope, no hating from me...from the sounds of it this guy has prior HEAD coaching experience. That's exactly what we were told would be the pre-requisite for future coaches, so happy to have him. Sure wish there had been a press conference to announce the coaching change but I can't bitch since we made an intelligent move. Welcome head coach Evans!! He is the new head coach, right? Surely you wouldn't take sarcastic shots at people over the accolades of an assistant.

  22. Define where we want to be. How about winning a round of 64 NCAA tournament game. Winning the regular season conference title and conference tournament title. Two of the three should have been readily attainable goals this season with a chance at all three. This is probably where CMJ or Tasty will let all if us know just how hard that NCAA win is to come by, but that was there for the taking this season and we aren't going to get it done.

  27. A very good man indeed. I sometimes questioned his actions (eluded to by Gray Eagle), but just loved this man for his kind, inclusive, approachable and unpretentious nature. He treated me like a big shot when I was giving much less than I do now (I was no big shot then, and am not now). A toast to you, Fred McCain. GMG

  29. I note that in both the article and your reference to it the entire question that was put forth to Obama is not spelled out. Interesting for an article with a slant. Also, I guess this portion of the article just didn't suit your agenda as comfortably? "For instance, Obama says he supports the death penalty in limited circumstances, such as an especially heinous crime. The campaign says Obama has consistently supported the death penalty “in principle” and opposed it “in practice.” On handguns, his campaign said he has consistently been for “common-sense limits, but not banning” throughout his 11-year political career."

  30. So we framing the debate in "what ifs". Cool, I'll know better than to try to have an intelligent discourse against "boogey man" politics. You can't point to a single time the POTUS has suggested the disarming of all citizens...thanks, let's move on. And school prayer, a favorite talking point of the "far right", is very much relevant as it is illustrative of how a "slippery slope" argument is equally ridiculous on either sode of the fence. Feel free to shoot off a rebuttal based on whatever CONJECTURE you'd like. I'm sure the peanut gallery will be glad to +1 it reflexively.

  31. While I am not, again, on board with every proposal made by the POTUS, I also fail to see the portion that says "make it illegal for any citizen to own a gun". I own six guns, all of which would be in ZERO danger of being randomly seized if EVERY portion of Obama's proposals was passed. where is the "make gun ownership illegal" part? If I missed that part please highlight it for me. Your argument that "If you want to take all guns away from all citizens, as, make no mistake, the left does..." doesn't seem to hold water without it. Now you can argue a slippery slope if you so choose. Likewise I guess I could argue that allowing prayer in schools is the first step toward mandatory Bible study and the burning of all books with references to evolutionary theory. Or would the right like to argue that Dems are the only party capable of abuse of power? So, please, show me the "take all guns from all people", part: http://www.nytimes.com/interactive/2013/01/16/us/obama-gun-control-proposal.html

  32. Shoot yes, another Penn State-style situation about to step off here. Nothing like systemically hiding things under the rugs and in the closets and hoping it'll never come out, only to make the situation far worse.
    1 point
  33. It's pointed sarcasm. If you want to take all guns away from all citizens, as, make no mistake, the left does, then their arguments for disarming he law abiding public can absolutely be made for disarming the police. Do I believe that either of these 2 things should happen? Of course not. Just using the left's own argument to show you and others how asinine it is. Apparently you agree. Not that it matters, but Ann Richards was governor when texans voted to have a lottery, and she administered the lottery for the 1st 4 years. Leave it to democrats to find a way to tax the poor. The point is we have thrown money at education for years with negative results. Money obviously isn't the problem.
    1 point
  34. Yeah, seems like a great idea. Maybe we will use it like we use the lottery revenues that are allocated to education.

  35. Obviously, all positions should be up for grabs; but I see only a few positions that won't be heavily contested. Orr and Akunne at linebackers, Chancellor at wr, and Y'Barbo, Johnson and Lemon in the ol are the only players I see that won't have a lot of competition. QB: Thompson, Berglund and don't forget Dan's favorite McNulty RB: Jimmerson, Byrd, Pegram WR: Harris, Terrell, Smith, Pleasant, Lancaster and others TE: Loving, Miller, Prior OL: Anyiam, Manu, McKinney, others DE: Bellazin, McCoy, Brown, others DT: Boutwell, Abbe, Lincoln, others LB: Polk, Smith, Wright CB: Whitfield, Jones, Jackson, Buyers, others S: Lee, Trice, Busby, others

  37. If we can't even get close to selling out a crowd for an ESPN2 game (literally we almost gave tickets away they were so cheap), how in the world do some people think we'll do better on Halloween? Yes, we're playing Rice, however I beleive the last time we played Rice, we did not sell out, and that was on a Saturday. Free candy at Apogee stadium will not entice very many families to come out when they can get free candy in their neighborhodod. Seriously, can you imagine taking your 5 year old trick-or-treating at Apogee then trying to get him/her to sit still for the next 3 hours so the parent can watch a football game? This has fail written all over it.

  43. The point of his post (at least how I read it) was to show there is no difference between painting all law enforcement as rogue murderers because of the actions of Dorner and painting law abiding gun owners as crazy mass murderers because of the actions of Adam Lanza. Both are equally absurd.

  45. Great! Loved it...these guys are great! saw part of this video at the UNT Alumni Awards ceremony last Friday evening...the Eli Young band was given one of the Associations "Outstanding Young Alumni" awards. Interesting that all graduated from UNT but none from the College of Music. Good stuff...great ambassadors for UNT.

  46. What worries me most about Flyonthewall's post is that he is privy to a lot more information than many regular fans. It appears that instead of admitting a mistake and fixing it, we are headed down the path of repeating the same recent mistakes of Todd Dodge and Shanice Stevens. Pride is sometimes a good thing, but realizing you have made a mistake and fixing the mistake shows so much more maturity and character. Fly, I appreciate everything you do for this program, but if Benford is here for 2 more years, I shudder at the basketball ruins that will be left at the Pit.
