  1. There are people who are actually complaining about the home slate in 2013. Let's take a look at who we will play at home... Idaho Ball State UTEP UTSA MUTS Rice For comparison, here is who we have played at home the last ten years. 2012 Texas Southern Troy ULL Arkie State S. Alabama 2011 Houston Indiana ULM FAU MUTS WKU MUTS 2010 Rice ULL Ark State FIU Troy K-State 2009 Ohio MUTS FAU WKU ULM Army 2008 Tulsa FIU ULL Troy Ark State 2007 FAU ULM MUTS Navy WKU 2006 SMU MUTS FIU La Tech FAU 2005 Tulsa Troy ULL ULM Ark State 2004 FAU MUTS NM State ULM Idaho 2003 Baylor ULL Utah State Troy Ark State You can't tell me that ANY of the schedules are preferable to what we have coming up this season. First, five games hasn't been the exception around here...it's been the rule. We get six this year. Second, there are THREE teams from Texas on this schedule. No, it's not aTm, Baylor and Tech...but it's sure as hell not ULL, WKU and S. Bama either. That's three teams with fan bases that can travel to Apogee. Three teams who will help to liven up the atmosphere. Three fan bases who we can talk s*&t to Monday through Friday at work. It isn't ideal, there's no arguing that. But it is a far far far far far far cry from the crap we've been dealt for a long long time.

  7. GrayEagle, I enjoy & respect your posts on Mean Green football but, my friend, your comments on science are pure b.s. According to a recent Gallup Pole - That quote came from - http://www.talkorigins.org/indexcc/CA/CA111.html As for "the Big Bang Theory is just that...a theory. Can anyone show scientific proof of the Big Bang?" You need to understand that in science the term 'theory' means something different than the way you used it. A theory in science is a statement that summarizes all we know about a subject. Thus a scientific theory is a very powerful thing. Theories are supported by all the available information & contradicted by none. That doesn't mean that a theory is proved - science isn't in the business of proof - & if tomorrow data are gathered that contradict the Big Bang (or evolution) then that theory will be rejected in favor of a more successful statement or, more likely, modified to fit the new data. You needn't think that evolution is by necessity a threat to your faith - Darwin didn't think that. Many scientists today are men of faith & still fully accepting of the validity of evolutionary theory. Ken Miller, a Catholic, and Francis Collins, an evangelical Christian, are just two examples. What is a threat, at least to your religion, is the tendency of some Christians to reject reality anytime that reality contradicts their literal interpretation of the Bible. If you insist that belief in a 6,000 year-old earth or a world-wide flood is a prerequisite for being a Christian, then you're going to lose all who are rational.

  18. I'd like to see the Cheerleaders find at least one person per game wearing a non-revelant t-shirt (a team that is not playing ) and make a big deal about it and give them a t-shirt to put on over their Texas or Notre Dame or whatever shirt. "Look everybody. This guy is wearing a UCLA shirt (everybody boos). Let's give him a North Texas shirt (everybody cheers)." And fans cheer louder when he puts it on.

  19. I understand what you are saying - I don't necessarily agree or disagree with what you are saying but....... When I read posting after posting after posting from UNT90 that is constantly negative toward this program - it is CONSTANT, not occasional - then after a while the credibility and effectiveness of your postings have shot their wad! Suggestion: Intersperse a few positive postings about the UNT athletic program here-and-there and people - including those at 1301 Bonnie Brae - will tend to pay attention. Believe me, that is fact! Your postings were very enjoyable and informative for a long time - I enjoyed reading them - but for the past year + your constant negativity toward the UNT athletic program............... I guess I have never understood why anyone continues to see only the negative and STILL supposedly supports a program. Honestly, if I felt the way you seem to feel toward this university's athletic program, I would move on to other things for which I have positive feelings - feelings that brought happiness rather than anguish and stress. Hell, you can't even find positive things to say about what most on here feel is a very good inaugural C-USA football schedule! But to each his/her own........as a parting thought: I have a neighbor who is a chronic bitcher.......and she is happy as a clam because she always finds something to bitch about. Just say'in... GMG

  21. In a previous life, I taught English to college kids from other countries in San Diego. The most common answer to this same question I got was the abundance of American flags flying everywhere. Then again, I can absolutely see a difference in overt religiosity between San Diego and North Texas (or East Texas or West Texas). I've generally stopped speaking to people in daily life beyond necessary retail transactions because of the religion thing.

  23. This year I think is very unpredictable, but without a question the team will be a better team than last year's team. However, our schedule will be tougher. I still think this year will show what Mac is truly building and that we'll go 6-6 at the least and return to a bowl game after nearly a decade.

  26. I agree. I just think his pickiness holds him back sometimes. Yeah, I think his evaluation of Tebo is an example of his guruness, but d-lineman very rarely slip through the cracks by other teams' guru evaluators. That is just such a high demand position. As for Boutwell, we need him there and Mac isn't the only one that sees that. It's unfortunate, but that's just the state our program is in right now. Words can't express how much a winning season would help our program in every way right now.

  28. See ya, didn't need ya. Seriously, wish we focused more on Texas and Oklahoma kids. The Louisiana recruits tend to want to either go back home or stay from the get go. I understand that and wonder if we would be better served focusing or efforts elsewhere.

  29. Nor was I. Obviously he tackled high, which is not as easy a fix as some of the people on here think, but he also seemed to get to the ball a little late and was not very explosive in his tackles, which would've resulted in him getting dragged at the next level. Sour grapes I guess. I would've liked to have him because he was a good athlete with potential, but I was never a huge fan of his highlights. Two straight years Tulane has plucked a linebacker from us right before signing day. I hope we kick their butt every year, starting this year so this doesn't happen anymore.

  30. Ball St. returns just about everybody from a 9-4 bowl team. A VERY TOUGH home game. Did I metion that Ball St. has been really good, then sucked, and is now really good again while we have continually sucked? Oh, and they blew out the next team on the list: Ohio returns just about everybody from a 9-4 bowl team that beat Penn St. and destroyed ULM in the Independance Bowl. Ohio returns a senior QB named Tyler Tettleton. All he did was throw for well over 5,800 yards the last two seasons (2,800 yards, 18 TDs 4 ints, 62% completion rating, and a 141 QB rating last year). If you think we win this game on the road, you are just simply dillusional. Tulsa won 10 games this year, along with a win over UCF in the CUSA title game and a bowl victory over Iowa St (yes, a Big 12 team). Tulsa graduates 18 seniors, 8 of which were defensive starters (including the entire defensive fromt 4). They only lose 4 on offense (including no skill position players and 3 O-linemen). The players that take their place will most likely be better than our returning starters. That is just where Tulsa is as a program compared to UNT. All 3 of these are pretty much unwinnable, and most definitely are not an "even match". I could go further, but you get the point. (MTSU, while not unwinnable, is going to be an EXTREMELY TOUGH home game). Don't underestimate the leap in competition that we are making.

  33. ww.religioustolerance.org/ev_publia.htm The above is what I remembered but the numbers refer to all people not bioscientists. There have been other former teachers of evolution that have written that the scientific community is slowly changing and is much higher than the 700 original dissenters of some thirty years ago. Evolution is not a scientific fact and can never be. In order to become scientific fact theories must be reproducable and testable and evolution can do neither. Intelligent design has not been proven either but common sense and the mathematical laws of probability tell me that it's a more reasonable hypothesis than evolution. I will admit, however, that there could be elements of microevolution between the original man and modern man.

  35. For me, the key to our team's growth is consistency, and what I hope for is that that consistency will be in the frame of the games we played well in (even the losses, i.e. KSU and LSU) last season. Or to be clearer, if the team as a whole plays as well - consistently - as it did at its best last season, regardless of the Thompson vs. Berglund debate, I can see this as very possible (slightly changed but lots of the same holds true):
