I, too, was at the game. Shank made the catch and the refs had to bail out the Razorbacks. Arkansas was nationally ranked at the time..I think 6th. I made a banner that said Soooie...Foooie, Go Mean Green that we put on the railing at the game and I spray painted a number of hog head car antenna emblems green in the parking lot of a Howard Johnson's (probably one of the most stupid things I did in college). The Talons brought the spirit bell to the game. Not one Razorback fan left that game thinking we were a push over. A newspaper account of the game quoted the Razorbacks as saying our defense was as good as the Kansas City Chiefs. It was a great road trip, as there were a lot of NT fans at the game.2 points

Dajon is currently #74 on the rivals Texas top 100, although they haven't rated him yet. Andrew Billings is 2 spots below and has over 20 offers, Dajon has the potential to blow up with a decent senior year. Would love to have him though, he looks solid.2 points

Besides my horrible photoshop job, I think this would look incredible. Like someone else said, black will never happen given the past, but I still think this would look great with our current uniforms which I have no problem with.2 points

I was at the '68 game. No one left the game, including the Hog fans, that did not believe Shanklin had made the catch. The official must have been the only person at War Memorial that night thinking it was a trap.2 points

A hash tag #meangreen Would get people trending or talking about unt. Its just another way to use social media to get awareness about the school and program. I'm all for it. Get progressive or get left behind.2 points

Briles was an assistant at Texas Tech before Houston hired him. Parker and Dodge came straight from high school. Let's...let's keep reality in focus. Briles got to see firsthand from Mike Leach how to be a college head football coach. Parker, no. Dodge...well, he didn't have, per se, a "high school football plan, or a college football plans, but a football plan." Evidently, in college, you need one of them fancy college football plans.2 points

http://www.staradvertiser.com/news/breaking/155768085.html Plans for the Mountain West Conference and Conference USA to form an association or merge are being further pushed back, officials said. In March officials from both conferences said an "early June" date was targeted. But Neal Smatresk, Nevada-Las Vegas president and chair of the MWC Board of Directors told the Star-Advertiser in an email, "At this point we are revising our timelines." He did not indicate what a new timeline might be.1 point

Bill taught me so much. I snuck in his class as a freshman at UNT when I wasn't supposed to be in the class. He let me on the radio with him as a freshman to do a Denton Bronco - Grapevine Mustang game. He never hesitated to put me in the line of fire early. While I am not in a career in sports broadcasting, I use Bill's teaching today in my role as Executive Director of the Children's Advocacy Center. He taught me preparation, confidence in speaking, hard work, and the right people skills that now help me speak on behalf of abused children. Thank you Bill. ....Dan Leal Class of 95,1 point

Just off the top of my head... Will one back take the majority of the carries or will we have an even distribution? Will they be played situationally? Will any of the freshmen crack the two deep? With our questions on the D-line and the secondary will we dial up more blitzes or drop more linebackers into coverage? What are ways we could entice more people to attend, even with a less attractive home slate? You know, present questions for THIS team.1 point

A merger will stabilize the current conferences and create the first truly national conference with members in five time zones and television viewership from coast to coast. Remember most television networks are national and/or have regional networks throughout the country. By merging the conferences would have a better chance of improving television contracts. It is quite simple, they would control a larger section of the supply when demand is increasing. Also, they would have greater leverage in negotiating bowl, merchandising, promotional and OOC scheduling contracts. MWC/C-USA may have to merge in response to the money grabs by the Big 4 conferences. Right now, the MWC and C-USA often times find themselves competing against each other! Where else could a company buy promotional or advertisement space in 24 major markets in five time zones throughout the country? Where else could Fox or Comcast find one supplier of programming for almost every region they operate in? Where else could a national network find programming for that matches the markets of it's affiliates? No where but the MWC/CUSA, not the Big 12, Big 10, SEC...1 point

A joint marketing agreement, scheduling cooperation and sharing some office functions get the benefits with out losing two conferences worth of autoqualifiers. Why merge?1 point

I was there. One of my more memorable road trips while in college, but I remember very few details of the game itself. All I know it was a hard fought game, UNT was great, Joe Greene and our defense was outstanding, and North Texas belonged on the same field as the Hogs. And who could forget those 45,000 fans all yelling "sooooooooooooooooooooooooie, pig, sooooooooooie!1 point

This is well-covered territory, but we never should have dropped down. Kansas State and Northwestern were horrible for most ofthe 1970s and 1980s, the absolute doormats of the NCAA for many of those seasons. But, they never dropped down to I-AA like we did. Wewere actually competitive and winning the MVC from time to time. You look at the other school in that conference with us at one point or another - Houston, Louisville, Cincinnati, Tulsa, Memphis (State) - they all stuck out tough times as well. The decision to drop down was terrible. Former MVC conference mates Houston going to the SWC was surely a slap. We had beaten them 28-0 the year before the SWC took them for football (1976), and held an overall 7-3 lead in head-to-head games (we still lead 7-6). Even during the late 70s and throughout 80s we were competitive with some lower rung Big 8 and SWC schools, beating Oklahoma State (1978), Kansas State (1985), TCU (1986), Texas Tech and Rice...and Texas, truth be told (1988). When Corky Nelson left, he'd given us four winning season in his final five. What more could have been done? We all know the answer - the school could have gotten behind the program. In 1991, I was in my second year at UNT. The bottom fell out when we hired the first high school coach, Dennis Parker. A nice enough guy, but.... We had some occassional success after we returned to I-A under Simon and Dickey - wins over Oregon State (1995), Boise State (1996, 1998, 1999), Northern Illinois (1996), Texas Tech (1997 and 1999), Nevada (1998), and Baylor (2003). Former I-AA colleagues Northern Illinois, Nevada, and Boise State have become bowl regulars over the past decade during their return to I-A: Nevada - 10 since their return in 1992, including the last seven - YES, SEVEN - seasons in a row. Northern Illinois - 6 since their return in 1996, including the last four seasons in a row, and six in the last eight. Boise State - 12 since their elevation to I-A in 1996, including the last 10 seasons, and 12 of the past 13. Our past leadership - athletic directors, presidents, some coaches - did a horrible job of taking advantage of momentum. Then, the hiring of the second high school coach.... We now have some hope. Or, I should correctly say, we again have some hope. Will we squander it again? Will the team stand up and build on an unexpected 5-7 season? Will the coaching staff continue to grind out wins against even lower rung "big conference" schools when the opportunities arise? Will the administration continue to support what is happening? And, finally, will the non-gomeangreen.com alumni finally get on board and start coming to games and contributing? Ladies and Gentlemen, we stand at the precipice of something great? Again?1 point

Take this and also add defense and the ability to press and disrupt defensively and you have my two new things to watch for. The rest of the items I can think of pretty much mimic GrandGreen's list. I guess igorance truly is bliss...1 point

I would not disagree with you at all, but are you sure they didn't get those tickets from a UNT season ticket holder who didn't show up and sold his/her tickets? I know this has happened in the past. I guess UNT could just not sell those higher priced tickets on game days or to non-season ticket holders. Is that what you want? You do get additional "perks" such as parking, a Mean green Club gift, football program recognition, invitations to Mean green Club events, Mean green Club hospitality room access, etc. So, the walk-up guy or gal is not getting the same perks as you are through your season ticket purchase and Mean Green Club donations. I do, however, very much understand your feelings as I feel somewhat the same way when i see folks in the Club area who bought Club tickets the day of the game or just before the game. I guess for me, I am of the opinion that it is better to sell the remaining higher priced tickets and get the additional attendees. But, that's just me.1 point

---What did you pay 4 years ago...??? .. 2 years ago.??? the posting above is right on.... part of the increased food prices are due to weather problems but a lot has to do with corn prices especially meat which is often fed corn prior to slaughter and of course corn inself plus many other agriculture products. Using corn as fuel has changed prices quite a bit..... and even beer.... huh.... ?? Farmers now raise more corn instead of other crops including grain etc. which goes into beer and other things including cereal. So what was your point about the milk and the time.?? Maybe the cows are like OPEC in the 70's. Just raised the price because they thought they were selling it too cheap. .. hahaha.. Where I am in West Texas we had 1/4" rain total in 11 months in 2010- 2011.. ie. not one of the wetest... no way. My ranch-land (that I now lease out) is not that far north of Austin and near Colo. River that feeds Lake Travis ... stock tanks were nearly dry in 2010 and went dry in 2011. ..1 point
-
I agree.. this is a really dumb argument.... I really doubt your 99 cent price.... but I did work in a grocery store while in college and I know that we did sometimes sell milk, bread, coffee, sugar and few other items at a loss since people really look at those items when deciding where to shop... the theory was it brought people into the store and we made the profit on other things. Two... We are in a serious drought now... I can water my yard two hours a week.... dairies depend on buying a lot of hay and other types of feed that takes water to grow.. .... and the cost of hay is insane now. That drives the price of beef and dairy products up. THINK...... and you might understand... no doubt milk is higher now but there are logical non-political reasons as you are implying is the cause since you bring up three years......[ why three years if not political? ] Good grief... you went to college... THINK... [ my family also raises cattle, I have a clue about what I am talking about ]1 point
-
---I am sure it is Obama's fault...hahaha.... You listen to Fox and the Fox-Street-Journal too much ( Murdock owns it too). [ hint milk has been not that cheap in years unless you were buying milk that was going out of date in a couple of hours........ and if you really check... gasoline is cheaper now that in the summer of 2008 also... just not cheaper than it after the economic meltdown that fall [ before the elections ] when we were bailing out banks, about to bail out car-companies, repo-ing houses left and right, and the DOW was dropping like a rock. ..1 point
