Yeah to hell with the suffering of innocents who want to be Americans at no cost to you, it's easier to just be fearful and lock everyone out. We should have kept all the Irish out when they were in their constant conflicts with Great Britain over the last few centuries.

Far greater chance that the Irish would assimilate into our culture then than the Syrians now. Look at what's happened in Cologne and Paris if you need some evidence that they want to be French or Germans. Why would we have a different result here? I don't see how you can logically say we will get better results which means there is a cost.

could you provide me some more details on this seemingly homogenous american culture you speak of?

Actually, the fear during the great Irish immigration wasn't Islam, it was Catholicism. That lingered throughout the nation until Kennedy got elected.

American culture is neither completely homogeneous nor stagnant. However, the current question is whether these "refugees" would readily assimilate and become a part of our society. My assertion is that they will not do so and instead bring about scenes like those witnessed in Cologne.

People who are soft on importing unvettable people from a war zone in which we are engaged, should really rethink the current landscape if they want us to avoid the European situation. Everyone is entitled to their opinion, but IMO logic and common sense should prevail over blind compassion.

Massive humanitarian aid from the international community rather than relocation and resettlement seems to be the obvious choice to me. If not, why not import the whole freaking 3rd world, since a pretty hefty percentage of people from all over this planet could be classified as oppressed or refugees from violence.

Why choose those in the midst of our enemies for a seat at the American table, rather than those who reside in parts of the world that show minimal hatred for our country? The government is exporting hard working 10+ year U.S. residing Hispanics, while at the same time pushing for the importation of 10's of thousands of Syrians.

Makes no sense to me, and there's also a "brain drain" factor to consider, since the smartest and slickest are usually the ones who move to the front of the line, and Syria needs their brightest to help rebuild the country if this thing ever ends. We've got to consider the long-term effects of all of this, rather than knee jerk compassion IMO.

In the immediate aftermath of the Paris terror attacks on November 13th, French investigators came face to face with the reality that they had missed the signs that the Islamic State was able to mount large and sophisticated international terrorist strikes.

Now, the arrest on Friday of Salah Abdeslam, the man investigators believe was the attacks’ logistics chief, offers a crucial opportunity to address the many unanswered questions surrounding how they were planned. Abdeslam, who was transferred on Saturday from a hospital to the Belgian federal police headquarters for questioning, is believed to be the only direct participant in the attacks who is still alive.

Much of what the authorities know is in a 55-page report compiled in the weeks after the attack by the French anti-terrorism police, presented privately to France’s interior ministry; a copy was recently obtained by the New York Times. While much about the Paris attacks has been learned from witnesses and others, the report has helped investigators in recent months come to a deeper understanding of the sophisticated nature of the attacks...

Weaknesses exploited

Investigators have come to realise that the Paris attackers, sent by the Islamic State’s external operations wing, were well-versed in a range of terrorism tactics – like suicide vests, gunmen in various locations and hostage-taking – to hamper the police response, the report shows. They have exploited weaknesses in Europe’s border controls to slip in and out undetected, and worked with a high-quality forger in Belgium to acquire false documents.

The scale of the network that supported the attacks, which took 130 lives and wounded 813 people, has also surprised officials, as President François Hollande of France acknowledged on Friday. There are now 20 people in detention in six countries on suspicion of assisting the attackers.

French officials have repeatedly warned citizens that more attacks are possible, saying security and intelligence officials cannot track all the Europeans travelling to and from Islamic State strongholds in Syria and Iraq. And western intelligence officials say their working assumption is that additional Islamic State terrorism networks are already in Europe, with more being formed.

.....According to the friend’s account to the police, Abaaoud regaled them with stories about how he had made it to Europe by inserting himself in the stream of migrants fleeing across the Mediterranean. He explained that he was among 90 terrorists who had made it back and who had gone to ground in the French countryside, the friend told the police....

Just updating news as its occurring.

A report was released three days ago that it was revealed during an inquiry last March that French officials suppressed evidence from the public that there was torture, mutilation and rape going on up on the second floor of the Bataclan Theater during the hours of the Paris attacks last November. I guess they felt the public couldn't deal with it? No idea.
