  1. Not football, so I understand if you move this Harry. Just great to see an alum excel on the national stage. Former North Texas golfer Sebastian Munoz is leading the field heading into weekend play at Greenbriar. Here is the home page from the PGA website. http://www.pgatour.com/ CBS coverage starts at 2pm tomorrow. Go Mean Green!!!

  2. As far as I've read he had one traffic stop where they found weed parafanalia and open warrants. My guess unpaid speeding tickets. Anyway if you want to win, you're going to have some borderline guys. This guy as far as I can tell isn't a gun toting felon, I'm good with giving it a shot as a walk on. Just my opinion, but you aren't going to find a bunch of kids who can play ball who don't have their issues whether we know about them or not. It is what it is. You get them here and try to continue building their character while winning games.

  3. Anyone watching this on TV is in for a treat. Munoz is currently holding a 1 stroke lead over Denton native and SMU grad Kelly Kraft.

  4. For worse than any of his coaching hires, this (and likely MGC participation, too) are the black eye(s) of the RV tenure. My opinion.

  5. Why would he walk on at UNT to work on a graduate degree when he can find plenty of schools within 2-3 hours of his mom that will give a full ride. Thats the beauty of grad transfers. They don't count against 25 newcomer limit but can help you get to 85.

  6. I love how magically last year's team was some bastion of depth and skill. Give me a break. No way last year's squad--on paper--was better.

  7. A little bit of the good stuff for the weekend. Nice to see the guys in the community & helping out.

  8. So it is indeed a countdown. But does anyone else find it strange to have a "countdown" that counts up? I'm excited about the D-line. This could be our best group since Booger, Awasom and Co.

  9. Dude just nailed a really long put (didn't catch distance, but I think 60+)!

  10. Not to mention showing photos of Edwards and January with the University of North Texas prominately displayed. Shazam! Athletics truly is that window to UNT!

  11. Watched most of the round. Great pub for North Texas. Mentioned Don January, Joel Edwards, talked about Carlos Ortiz as well. All good stuff for us and Sebastian is hanging in there!

  12. IMO our offense will be improved but not drastically. I think we're looking at an offense that will struggle to be top 100 in scoring. I think our defense will make a bigger jump this season but it's likely the stats won't show it because the offense will sputter leaving them on the field for far too long at times. I think 6-6 is the ceiling for me personally. 4-8 or 5-7 seems more likely.

  13. CEL is an interesting project. He goes to a BIG 12 school with plenty of other offers. He gets plenty of playing time as a freshman and is named honorable mention in the B12. For some reason, transfers to AState and does well and is slated to graduate. And, not only graduate but to graduate early and still have a 4th year to play. This guy is not your run of the mill troubled kid. I'm usually the first to stay away from potential troubled kids, but if he comes to North Texas with a degree in hand, I'd like to see him on Saturdays. On a very short leash. GO MEAN GREEN

  14. I'll take him, his past is weed related not like it was heroine. If he wants to walk on I'm not saying no to talent unless it's a major character concerned (Baylor type)

  15. Jeremy is a swell guy but he had a man crush on CEL. He is a special athlete but his football IQ holds him back. A 24 yard kickoff return from the end zone is a negative. Running hard to catch a short punt and muffing it is a negative. Chasing a punt over your head and trying to catch it Willie Mays style and muffing it is a negative. He was falling down the depth chart at TCU and they gave up on him as a WR and moved him to DB. His playing time was dropping at AState and you knew certain plays were on and off the table based on whether he was in or the #2 A back was in. I am unclear as to whether the last straw were the arrest or how he did or did not take responsibility (I know Anderson rained down hell on a player because he didn't fess up and staff found out from media) or how he responded to the consequences. What I do know is it is highly likely that Anderson and Littrel have talked. They are both out of the Fedora tree and Anderson is very active in AFCA so I'm sure their paths have crossed. UNT won't be going into this blind. CEL has an immense upside. He either hasn't found the focus or a guy who is 149-52 and one who is 24-15 don't know how to coach him. If he checks out after straight talk between Anderson and Littrel and there is a vacant scholarship for a year he's probably worth taking a flier on.

  16. That was what shocked me the most. I really wish we would release those numbers yearly to keep our department accountable.

  17. Same 7 you have... Lamar- FCS UAB- Restarting football, at home, and early in the season. UTSA- I will always expect our coaches to win this game. Sadly, only Canales has been able to do that. FAU- Kiffen needs more than half a season to fix FAU. UTEP- Only return 3 starters on offense, and their great RB isn't one of them. Army- They are what they are, and we are improving. Rice- Only return their O-line on offense. Toss Ups SMU- Morris is 7-17 at SMU. ODU- Lost their good starting QB and their entire LB corp. Plus, we get them at home.

  18. I don't see this as a transitional season. Littrell hit the jucos to shore up the O-line and WRs. Although our recruiting seems to lag behind where we want it, Littrell has snatched some quality under the radar guys (Bussey, Ham-Bone, Wheeler). I also see Fine improving this season. Last season's schedule was much tougher. I see a path to 7 wins this year. Maybe more. ODU, lost a lot from last season's team. UAB hasn't played a game in 3 years. Kiffen will need time to get FAU hitting on all cylinders, and he could go down in a scandal before that ever happens. Morris has yet to deliver a winning season at SMU. I like what I saw from our defense during the spring, and I believe we have guys at every offensive skill position ready to post breakout seasons.

  19. Excited that it started, I worked at the Pit last semester (Planning on continuing once classes start again) and of course I heard from staff and friends who worked prior that the restrooms were going to be updated and the whole office thing etc. I feel like there will be things done in the basement like some renovations but that's still something i don't know of... can't wait for these changes... i know athletics and the board have been striving to modernize the Pit!

  20. I tried the plastic seatbacks the first year when Apogee opened, and I didn't like them, so I bought the ones from Academy made by "The Stadium Chair Company". I highly recommend them, They're solid, with a metal frame, and because you're sitting on a canvas seat an inch or two above the metal bleacher, extremely comfortable. I got mine in August, when Academy was having a "buy one, get the second for 1/2 price" sale. I had to go to two stores, but I was able to get four of them in green. Maybe they have that sale every year? Don't ask what shade of green - at least they're green!

  22. And this.... "I would love to consider North Texas." Is that contingent on UNT communicating with the young man?

  23. "I have reached out to UNT once or twice, but have not heard anything yet," Echols-Luper said. Why would we not reach back immediately?

  24. SO as far as I can tell, there are still three alumns who are golf pros right now. Lets quickly check in. There is Rodolfo Cazaubon, who was relegated from the Web.com tour last season and is now playing mostly on the Latinoamerica tour. Yes that is the guy who played in the olympics last year! He is currently ranked 33rd there in the order of merrit with two top 10 results, which he still needs to improve upon (the top 5 get automatic cards for the Web.com tour). But he should at least be able to skip a qulifying school stage. So far this is probably his worst yeaar since he turned pro in 2014. Then we have Carlos Ortiz, who won the Web.com tour overall standings in 2014, and got relegated back down to the web.com tour last year after having the card for two years he had his second top ten result of the season last week and is currently 45th in the order of merrit. In order to get an automatic PGA tour card you got to end in the top 25. If you are among the top 75 you get a second chance at the web.com tour final, and your Web.com card is safe. And finally we have Sebastian Munoz, who was promoted to the PGA tour for this year. He played some Web.com tour events, and even got a 2nd spot (and two cuts). The season didn't really start so hot on the pga tour, where so far the best is a 27th place and he is currently ranked only 198th in the fedexcup. He needs to finish in the top 125 to make the finals and retain his card. And he needs to stay in the top 200 to at least qualify for the web.com finals and have 2nd chance and guarentee the web.com card. ...however, Mr Munoz started todays PGA tour event (the Greenbrier) RED HOT, and for the second time this year, he has a lead, as he is at -9 after day 1, two shots ahead. Lets hope he fares better than last time.

  28. Nice shout out by the on-air commentators to UNT alumns who are/were on tour. That was good advertisment for UNT overall, which was mentioned several time on the CBS broadcast today. Sebastian Munoz did his part, he shot a tough -2 today and remains leader going into the final day at -14, two shots ahead.

  29. If you knew where we were before he got here you might cut RV some slack. Also, I must have slept thru WB's marketing approach, as I have seen nothing earthshattering. The bottom line is that we are D.A.L. in season ticket sales and contributions to out athletic department. While it would certainly help if we put a decent product on the field, a lot of the schools ahead of us haven't exactly been tearing up the gridiron. We seem to be more mouth than money when it comes to Athletics.

  30. I think that it is going to depend more on the quarterback than the offensive line. A pro OL couldn't be constantly giving the quarterback six to eight seconds protection while he tries to find a receiver; especially when there are often more rushers than blockers. Fine ( or whoever plays quarterback) is going to have about two or three seconds to decide to keep from taking sacks.

  31. You're probably right that weed should be legal. That, however, isn't the point. The kid broke the law. Someone in his position should religiously follow the law - for his own best interest and for the interest of his team.

  32. In PPG we were 101st. I hope there is enough improvement to get us to top 100. If not, we're in trouble and so is this staff. I think we'll be better on O regardless of who the QB is. There are more weapons on O and more experience along the OL. I think our 3rd down D will be better as well, and this will give the O more opportunities. 6-6 is not an unrealistic bar this year, or any year. That should be the floor for us all...alum, AD, Prez, coaching staff, and players.

  34. I agree with you. I wish we could see where money is being allocated to. I think the locker room is a joke. I would be ashamed to unveil that to a college football team as acceptable. BUT, at least it doesn't have green eye balls in it. So they have that going for them. As for your incentive plan...why not. But it does seem like a plan for inexperienced recruiters. We just need to bite the bullet and pay our top recruiters the most money. If DC/OC don't like it...bye. If the DC/OC would like to take that burden on as our top recruiter(s) make it financially worth their while. But something has to give.

  35. If he is transferring then I would assume Littrell and staff have fully investigated everything. I must say I am surprised at the number of posters that are indifferent to the use of an illegal drug.

  37. Again, I guess she is graduating. I really hate this rule when it allows larger programs to cherry pick stars from lesser conferences. It has to be a major consideration when deciding to redshirt players or accepting transfers who are going to graduate before their eligibility is up.

  38. If at the end of the season I honestly feel the team has improved I'll say it was a successful season - regardless of number of wins. Hopefully, playing better will result in more wins, but that ain't necessarily true.

  41. If we have a scholly - I say do it.....will he walk on for us? If he is that fast, surely the NFL will be looking at him......we need NFL talent in here.... I actually meant to say we need NFL scout looking here, so maybe others will get noticed.....

  42. Cincinnati filed suit and won an immediate stay from the local (friendly) court. By the time they got the thing on the docket for hearings on the stay the NCAA or Cincinnati proposed a settlement. If Cincinnati met the I-A criteria in 1982 they'd stay I-A case dismissed. If they came up short then they would reclassified case dismissed. The MAC had a handful knocked down and they just hustled to make sure everyone who was out made it back in. They kept them in the conference. With the schedule UNT had, slapping some bleachers up for the 1982 season would have solved the issue.

  45. But, but, but UNT hasn't invested into the program...Therfore we should be recruiting like garbage...According to some posters. Meanwhile, the current #1 recruiting class in CUSA spends less than anyone else. Sooooo

  47. you should be ok this early in the process in having yours by the first game. they are definitely better than just the bench. i think they are worth the money. however, it shouldn't matter because you should be standing the entire game like me. ;)
