  1. Sweating my @$$ off standing in position during a scene in the midday June heat. Kathy had challenged Sinbad and I to a burping contest earlier, and I'm laughing here because she had just burped her ABC's. She was one of the coolest chicks I had ever met. One of my signature moves as Eppy during basketball season was an attack on the goal where I jump and stick to the thing,...then slide to the floor. The little kids loved it. Most NT fans wouldn't recognize this today but in the 80's & 90's this was what was known as "Entertaining Mascoting",...which is actually what a school mascot is supposed to do at public events. Entertain and enteract with the crowd and the kids in attendance. Stan Dragoti asked me to try this move on the football goal post, they didn't think I could get the heavy, $4000 suit off the ground. I could. Rick

  3. This thread makes me uncomfortable. Some of your responses are precisely why such stigma exists around mental health services. Glad the university is doing something to try to help.

  4. I took my 2 sons to Fouts for part of the filming. We are in the crowd scene (Unless we're on the cutting room floor where they say the best scenes end up) filmed at night. They gave us hot dogs and pennants. The Dixie Chicks performed on some sort of trailer on the field. Afterward, they just towed them off ( much like Natalie Maines did of their career) . As I recall, they had big water hoses spraying water onto the field so simulate rain. We stayed as late as a responsible father could stay. We still hate those Texas Colts. Go 'Dillos GO MEAN GREEN

  8. I love my Club seats. I would argue mine are the best at Apogee-first row 50 yard line. I bought these seats to make it easy for my wife to come to all NT home games. there is a lot gong on at the club besides football on game day. what pleases her pleases me. I was the second person, according to Mandy McKinley to sign up for Club seats. The arrangement was that I had 5 years to pay off the "seat license." during that time, I was allowed to waive my Mean Green Club dues, which helped me keep up my payments. I put aside money each week and every 3 months, made a payment to the Athletic Dept. I still had to buy season tickets, which I would have done even had we still been at Fouts. So now, even with an increase in the Mean Green Club commitment, I'm spending less per month/year than I was during the payout period. I don't know how others will approach the new Mean Green Club promise. North Texas football, even with all it's problems, is still how I want to spend 6 Saturdays per year. I've met lots of great people following the Mean Green. The Club is a great place to visit, whine or cheer with them and I look forward to doing so for many years. GO MEAN GREEN

  9. KRAM, I fully appreciate all that you do for the department and UNT as a whole, but RV's message when selling Apogee and what has been delivered are entirely two different things. I probably would not attend a big concert due to where I live, but we were told Apogee would host concerts. Not an add-on to the spring game and not a one time concert, but concerts. The message was these would be stand alone events or post game events. One, post spring game concert by a band a some know of was not the promise. Name acts were what was alluded to during the promotional talk. We were told scheduling would be better. I like the SMU and Army series, but outside of Houston and Indiana, nothing else has been delivered. The annual Kiwanis fireworks show is a stretch since it was already hosted at Fouts and would be held at UNT's stadium because that is where it has been held forever. High school games are becoming more common, but originally, the message was that Apogee was priced out of the market by our AD. That falls on the AD. I love Apogee, but it is a stretch to say that RV has delivered on his promises.

  10. and ironically this is being led by many of the same people who, following yet another mass-shooting like what we saw in Kansas yesterday, will fall over themselves to stress the importance of the mental-health system over meaningful conversation about gun control. hopefully politics makes this stupid thread disappear.

  11. First day we met on set. Head costumer Dan Moore sent me outside to meet and and bring Kathy back inside for her fitting for football equipment. She walks up and says.."Hi..I'm Kathy Ireland", as if no one knew? I nearly fainted, after all I'd been staring at her half naked in magazines since I was 12. I played ball in high school at 185 lbs. But just my luck the first and only time to ever meet a Super Model I look like a damn concentration camper, weighing at around 139 lbs.. That's what 5 years of college while working for near nothing at Piggly Wiggly and living off Raman noodles will do for you. In between takes and scene set ups I met, signed autographs and entertained the great folks from all over who sat for long hours in the stands at Fouts as the extras fans in the movie. I met some really wonderful people. Rick

  12. Losses: T Michael Banogu, G Micah Thompson Top Returners: SR C Kaydon Kirby, SR G Sam Rice, SO T Chris Miles, SO T Jordan Murray Additions: JUCO T Cody Hayes, JUCO G TJ Henson, HS T Chandler Anthony Other returning scholarship players: SR T Ryan Rentfro, SR T Connor Trussell, SR OL Garrett Gunter, JR T Harrison Sorge, JR G Dominick Walker, SO G Avery Fortenberry, SO C Creighton Barr, FR Elex Woodworth, FR T Chett Munden Last year we broke in a lot of new o-linemen as we replaced 4 starters, 3 of which were four-year starters. We knew going in that this unit would suffer some rookie mistakes. While they weren't exactly a strength, they were a group that played pretty well at times and gained a lot of experience. Our offense had success running the ball, and while a big part of that was the guys running the ball, the offensive line did a decent job in the run game, including an impressive 180-yard performance against Iowa. Personally I think they need to do a better job getting up to the second level, but they did a pretty good job of at least creating a crease. In the passing game they still have plenty of room to improve. The individuals weren't that bad in big-on-big, one-on-one protection. Where the struggles came were with blitz pickups and stunts. Also had quite a few sacks that were mainly on the receivers and QBs. As for the players, we have a good mix of experience and talent. Kaydon Kirby (35 starts) and Sam Rice (18 starts) have 53 combined starts on the FBS level, including Rice's time at SMU. Soph tackle Chris Miles was as heavily recruited as any player we signed in Mccarney's five classes, and his al-CUSA freshman selection backed that up. Soph tackle Jordan Murray also started some games, as did Soph center Creighton Barr at the end in place of Kirby. Barr will probably be a candidate to move over and start at right guard, as he is likely to compete with JUCO transfer TJ Henson and possibly others like RS FR Elex Woodworth and former Texas Tech lineman Trey Keenan. A very intriguing position battle may happen in the fall if Cody Hayes comes in as advertised, and competes to push Jordan Murray. That competition is going to be very important, IMO. This one was really a toss up between offensive line and the position group I rated just below them. It really could go either way, but I expect a big improvement from a group that didn't play that bad last year. Position Group Rank: 2nd

  16. Right now, I am broke. I was looking for any reason to get out of renewing my club seats this year. Instead of quietly going off into the night, I thought I would put one more jab at the thing that I love so dearly and sacrificed good hard earned money for, only to be kicked in the crotch on multiple occasions. If for some reason it looks like Coach Litrell is pulling it together, I will drive up there, walk across the bridge, and find someone with extra tickets so I can get in the stadium. It wouldn't matter if Hayden Fry or Mean Joe called me and asked me to renew, I just can't afford it right now. If anything other than this is the case, you need to renew your club seats. Paragraph 1: What deep green said My paragraph: My interpretation of potentially what deepgreen was saying Note: In no way I am saying or inferring that deepgreen is broke. I am only pointing out that sometimes people blame others or make excuses when there needs to be some type of change in their life. My point to this was. Please renew your club seats. Change is afoot and I would hate for anyone to have to try to jump back on the bandwagon in a couple of years and try to renew then. The money is needed to fund student athlete scholarships and cost of attendance if we want to be competitive. I think the one thing we all agree on is we want desperately to be competitive. We just disagree on the path.

  17. "Back at the ticket office, Smoley said it has become "sort of a stock market-type" watch each day. A white board tracks the number of sales. On some days, the phone has been ringing nonstop. They had more than 400 new sales in one day. On another, they reached the mark by lunchtime. On Feb. 16 came the "Daily Double" - 100 new and 100 renewals." "Most of the lower bowl, as of late Wednesday, is sold out except for a few pockets of seats in five sections." This is what happens when you win, beat a P5 in a bowl game, and shrug off U of Texas from poaching your coach. I truly envy the way Houston has stepped up to the plate and done something with their football program. UNT needs to take out the notebook and start taking notes... Preferably without Rick Villareal...

  20. This is in fact excuse making, KRAM. You are an excuse maker for the AD. If I were to make a comment of this nature then it would be taken as such. But when someone that openly and consistently makes excuses, makes excuses then it is excuses. It is what it is. I don't care about any of this. I care of W's. RV hasn't provided those and there is no excuse in the World to hide that huge black eye. We suck and EVERYONE knows it.

  21. Mark, I like you a lot buddy. You are a great guy and a good athletic supporter. :) But, you have to admit this is kind of shady if this is what RV meant by the big concerts at Apogee, lest your bias blinds. And if this is what RV thinks as being adequate as his promised concerts, then we might disagree on what we see as successful. Or what is really a concert.

  28. Here was an idea we should have considered: forfeiting all road games because we simply cannot play good basketball outside of Denton. The travel costs we would have saved could have gone towards buying out Rick's contract.

  37. I was in school and bartending at the old Trail Dust out on east 380 during this time. The cast would come in on Sunday evenings and eat and hang out. They had one of their parties out there one Sunday night, and asked if we would stay open later since the place shut down at 10pm on Sundays. They pooled money and paid the band to stay and tipped the wait staff and myself very nicely for working extra. The best part of this was that Kathy Ireland did not drink, so she walks up to the side of the bar and asks me if it is alright if she stands there while the rest of the group is getting rowdy. I was the same as FFR, after looking at her in SI and having one of her posters at home, I think I mumbled something that was inaudible but shook my head yes. She just smiled, stuck out her hand and said, "Hi, I'm Kathy what's your name?" She was extremely nice and down to earth. Actually, all that I came in contact with were great although Jason Bateman was a little full of himself at that time. My second favorite memory was arriving for my first class of the day at the PEB only to have to wait while they shot the opening scene where the previous, scandal ridden coach is escorted to a waiting vehicle amongst a throng of media. They must have shot that little scene 20 times causing me to miss half of class.

  38. they are terrible, at the last home game one ref was terrible, he made a call across the court when the other was standing next to the play and the phantom foul on the break away play still amazes me. I watched the replay a few times and can not see what the guy was seeing.

  40. OK. So let's be fair about this. Reckless Kelly was really, really good. It's been a while since I've heard a group of musicians who play so tightly together as they do. This became my favorite song of theirs. I'm sure you can relate, at least for purposes of golf carts. As good as Reckless Kelly was, they were an after thought to a spring game to which I recall one Mrs. Anderson saying, "I mean, they're good, but I don't know any of the songs." Apogee could be a great venue for a big name band or festival as an event in and of itself. Honestly, given Denton's reputation for music and as a burgeoning live music scene that's starting to rival Austin, I'm kinda surprised that there have never been even mid level names playing the super pit. Or Apogee. Apogee could easily steal Edge Fest from Frisco or host some very similar event. The only remote reason I can think against that would be damage to the playing surface, but every other stadium in America seems to have that part figured out. Even the University of Allen hosts big concerts like that.
