Smu Ncaa Violations

Recommended Posts

Dallas Morning News

"SMU announced on Thursday that its men’s basketball program committed major NCAA violations involving text messaging. The NCAA has accepted SMU’s self-imposed sanctions, which include placing the program on probation for two years."

At least they turned themselves in this time.

"SMU’s self-imposed penalties, accepted by the NCAA, include:

-Two-year probation from March 2011-March 2013

-Reducing the number of recruiting days available by 15 (from 130 to 115) for this year and next

-Reducing the number of official paid visits available to the program by 2 (from 12 to 10) for this year and next

-A two-week ban on initiating communication with the program’s recruits, which was enforced between April 28, 2010 and May 11, 2010"

Boy...if you're gonna skirt the rules at least make sure it's for kids who can make you a winner and give your fan base something to cheer about.

What does it matter? The guys who play for SMU are living such rockstar, warlock, tiger-blood drinking lifestyles that they will be winning* no matter what sanctions are put on them. They just wont be winning any basketball games.

#WINNING!*

I wonder if they will allow kids to get out of their LOIs? Cunningham would look nice in Green.

*winning = delusional.

Does this probation prohibit SMU from being able to participate in post-season tournaments? If so, would they even be allowed to play in the CUSA tournament?

This self imposed probation very well could derail the Pony Express' drive to a national championship in 2014. Also, it could really impact attendance. The numbers could plummet from the 500 person fan base to a mere dozen. Anyway, it's SMU, so who cares.
