Just got an alert, the athletic fee bill will have a public hearing on APRIL 8, 2009 in the House Higher Education Committee!!!!!!

I find Section II to be interesting. If the bill gets 2/3 vote in favor of it, it goes into effect IMMEDIATELY. If it passes only by simple majority...it goes into effect Sept. 1, 2009.

That is an interesting observation. Although isn't it somewhat of a moot point since Section I © says, "The fee may not be charged before the first semester a new football stadium is available for use at the university." I think either way, whether 2/3 or simple majority, we can bank on it and move on.

The only difference between the 2/3 vote or simple majority is when the LAW goes into effect, not the athletic fee.

This is not a stadium fee. it is an athletic fee. They already have an athletic fee, and we do not.

Excellent point. This is way different from the old student-use fees pie which all departments got a piece of after their requests were trimmed by administration. This is a dedicated Athletics fee. In the future can this fee be upped in-house as needed with just BOR approval?

My guess is because B12 schools have a T. Boone Pickens type that can write a $68 million check out of their petty cash account.

It can be increased 10% per year up to the state max of $20/hr. It will take 8 years to reach $20/hr. Assuming an enrollment increase of 2% per year, here are the estimates of student population and athletic fee revenue through 2020.

On that kind of forecasted schedule, they should be bonding out the stadium, breaking ground, and lining up some SEC coaching staffs for around 2015. $25 million by 2020? Really? That's a LOT more than we're used to 'round these here parts.

This also assumes an increase every year. But even left at $10 for a few years, we're already tripling our revenue.
