Good Luck Memphis

It's not often we get other fans on here to talk smack with , wish good luck etc. We do get a few SMU idiots browsing , but we really don't count them. I just want to wish you guys the best in the tourney and if you happen to pull off the "upset of the century  " and beat us , I hope you guys WIN it all. If we have to lose in the 1st rd it might as well be to the National Champs. Also , C-USA is not in a Bull $hit Conference and I would love it if someone outside the " alliance " could cut down the nets.

Good Luck.

Memphis is a really good team and they were #5 in the nation for a long time. They swept C-USA and the tourney. I thought for sure UM would get a #1.

Remember Gonzaga. The first year they made the tournament, they SHOCKED Syracuse. I think that is still the only #15 seed to beat a #2 seed.

I'm not saying NT is the next "Gonzaga" but you have to start somewhere.

???

Gonazaga was never a 15 seed.

The 15 to beat the Orangemen was Richmond in '91.

The Zags started out as a #14 seed in 1995 , lost to Maryland

#10 seed in 1999 , beat Minnesota,Stanford,Florida ; lost to UConn... America falls in love w/ the Zags

#10 seed in 2000, beat Louisville,St.John's ; lost to Purdue

So I am wrong about that one. Still...no one had heard of Gonzaga and they made a splash in their first showing in the tournament. They have had at least a good 10 year run. Point is...you gota start somewhere.

I saw the thread with the upsets. There have been a lot more 15s beating 2s then I recall. Pretty rare though.

Only four #15 seeds have ever defeated #2 seeds:

* Richmond over Syracuse 73-69 in 1991

* Santa Clara over Arizona 64-61 in 1993

* Coppin State over South Carolina 78-65 in 1997

* Hampton over Iowa State 58-57 in 2001

Well, of course. If there wasn't, we would play the games on paper or Nintendo WII.

If you want a chance based on percentages of how often it's done, here ya go.

#15 seed victories over #2's: 4

#2 seed victories over #15's: 84

That equates to, based on historical figures, a 4.55% chance you will pull off the victory. But hey...I've had rain on days where the chance was supposed to be 0%. That's why the games are played.

As I said in numerous threads on more than 1 messageboard. Memphis is better than we are at every position. They should beat us soundly. HOWEVER, if they're a bit off, and we have an outstanding game we have a shot.

Memphis won't cover the 18.5 line IMHO, but they'll get close.

****I really hope I'm wrong, but this isn't me being negative, it's being realistic******

From your historical perspective, it looks like 1 every 3 years or so... apparently, an upset is long over due :D
