If you are a basketball fan, you probably remember playing UTPB in the past. They will be starting football in 2016. The UT system board mandated they needed to raise 9.5 million to cover the first few years of operation, they did that in less than a year.

They student government came up with the idea of a using a $35 fee for athletics, and it passed with 80% of the vote.

That's $35 per semester...

According to this article: http://www.oaoa.com/news/education/utpb/article_d560a3d4-baa2-11e3-8ad7-001a4bcf6878.html, the fee already in place was estimated at $180 per semester for students (roughly $15 per credit hour based on 12 hours) and is being raised an additional $35 per semester (or a shade less than $3 per hour for 12 hours). So, they've actually approved what amounts to an estimated fee of $18 per credit hour.

And technically, it's a fee that was already being paid anyway so there's really no change for the students.
