  1. I hate the portal business. That is all.

  2. He's a 1st team All AAC, he wasn't playing in CUSA....he was playing in a much tougher league out of JUCO

  3. If he is graduating with a degree from UNT best of luck. If he is leaving for greener pastures without a degree, I hope it turns brown and he falls flat on his face

  5. Pointing out his liabilities is not really warranted, as we'd all be thrilled if he returned. It's not really fair to compare him to Perry either. They had different strengths, and Perry was here for 2 years & improved from year 1 to year 2.

  6. This one hurts. He is definitely talented. However, his ball handling skills need a lot of work. Often resulted in turnovers or bad possessions.

  7. It’s not much from the screen shots. They’re mostly videos. The 41 in vertical is pretty impressive. So is the 55 yard field goal. And Horton running a 4.44 sounds good, too. Not sure if we’ll see any of the official results.

  8. I figure he and Dixon transfer and Allen graduates. The rest should stay. We replace those with two solid big transfers from the portal and then pick up a younger combo guard.

  9. I agree it's harsh...but ya, kinda. I think we can do better and in this day and age have a great opportunity to do so. dude is a really good sixth man on a good team, not someone to build around. I prefer the opportunity to utilize the portal than what he would've brought back next year. time will tell.

  10. I think we've been overall fairly reasoned. Maybe there's a bit of a jilted lover syndrome going on, but that's gonna happen at any program. You don't think when Caleb Love left UNC he wasn't ripped on Tar Heel messageboards, because I assure you he was.

  11. Stating facts about his game is “ripping” him? And with NIL - I’m comfortable with it. So are most of the rational posters here. If these dudes are “paid” athletes now, they can handle criticism - especially from fans that fund the program (season ticket holders, MGSF, & NIL collective donors). This isn’t college athletics of old. It’s not as fun. And if they don’t stay and get degrees, you’re not really one of us. You’re someone who played here for a year or two then changed teams like a pro athlete does.

  12. So tell me this, a guy jumps from Juco to AAC, plays majority of games without two starters. Had to take on the point guard role and it wasn't good enough?
    3 points
  13. eh. to a reduced role, for sure. to come back as the clear number 1 and "leader"...that's the recipe for another middle of the pack season, IMO. we're in an era where scholarship availability is basically as valuable as scholarship players. this is a great opportunity. plus, we probably ditch that weird kid poster from Virginia too.

  14. The best thing about having Hodge as a coach was he came from JUCO where they often have massive turnover year to year, which has now become the norm in DI too. I'm sure he was at least partially ready for this scenario.

  15. He was a JUCO guy last year, and only played here 1 year, so unless he had a huge classload (20+hrs/semester) plus maymester & summer classes... I highly doubt this. I bet he finds his way to a SEC or ACC school though. Best of luck to him. Leaves a scoring void though. Get on the phone with Ivy-Curry! He would be an excellent addition to the line of explosive JUCO players we've had over the past 5 years!

  16. Hot take: Don’t really care about this one. Think Ross finds someone that may not get the averages he did but will be close and fits better.

  17. Mean Green sweep UTA in 2024, making nine wins in their last ten games after a rough nonconference schedule. UNT got a run in the first before going down 4-1 after a big 3rd inning for UTA, highlighted by a three-run homer. That was the only damage Childers allowed. We finally regained the lead in the 6th and added insurance in the 7th to go ahead 7-4. In both innings, the 11-20 Mavericks let long fly balls get away from them, one going through the glove. Overall UTA had six errors and four hits. A small group of us featuring @untcampbell and @FirefightnRick made some noise behind home plate!

  18. I hope so . I really think if Rubin does not go pro that we can get him and Aaron .

  19. He seemed like a great team player, and I heard he worked hard in practice. Best of luck and I hope he finds the right school.

  20. Sad to see him go but he has to do what's best for him especially if he didn't foresee getting sufficient playing time here. I loved when his father played at North Texas during the Jimmy Gales years, and his brother Bobo would have been best served if he had transferred here after committing to LSU and enrolling at UCLA. Baylor never provided him an opportunity to develop. Best of luck young man.

  21. Without Edwards this year, I speculate NT would have lost about 5 more games. Now we lose the only first team All Conference player and many chime in that he was not that good anyway and we can do better. All those, that think he will be easy to replace and was really a liability; are simply basketball unaware. What many seem to forget is that opponents' defenses were for most part focused on stopping Edwards. This freed up the other players for more good shots. Many predicted this, he is a hired gun and that is the why he is at NT. I think NT will get a good replacement, but I want to thank Edwards for his year of play and wish him the best.

  22. I do hope you’ll throw money at him. See a kid who is a great scorer…fail to see that he isn’t clutch…try to buy your way to success…continue to be an after thought. That would be the most SMU thing ever.

  23. ideally we're looking beyond (and up from) our conference, but nothing wrong with pitching Mekhi Mason from Rice

  24. He played uninspired defense. I don't care about his 20 points on 20 shots. Replace him with a junkyard dawg.

  25. Volume shooter to get his points. Poor ball handler and questionable decision maker in crunch time situations. Liability on defense. Not clutch offensively like Perry or Hamlet.

  26. Maybe this means Ruben is coming back. I never felt like they were ever comfortable playing together. Hate to lose his scoring but he also had to have a lot of shots to get those points. Not very efficient. He also struggled in late game situations. Good luck to him and I trust Hodge to get a quality replacement!

  27. I am grateful for him keeping us in games. But I’d like a true closer all the same. Let’s just hope the team he joins doesn’t need to rely on him for any last second shots. Be sure they ain’t fallin.

  31. That was 7 away games and Kansas was at Texas Stadium. UAB was 1AA in 1995 and had been Division 3 until 1992. That homecoming loss was one of the most disappointing losses in my almost 50 years as a fan. Dan McCarney proved that it can get worse. No thank you. One good thing about that season was all games were telecast with Gil Brandt as one of the announcers. The come from behind victory over Oregon State is certainly a top highlight of my memories as a fan.

  32. there are scores...maybe hundreds of players scattered throughout college basketball who can get you 19ppg if you get them 15 shots a night. he's a really good player, but not special. I'll be curious to watch his career play out, but in the meantime I'm happy for the free scholarship than can be used to help re-balance the roster moving forward. unawaredly yours, CBL

  33. I was not at all mad at Tylor ever . This one I am “butt hurt” as my sons say . There is a difference IMHO.

  34. I think he would be a great replacement for Edwards. Great scorer, better ball handler and equal defensively. Bad part is you only have him for one year but that gives time for the two HS recruits to develop.

  35. Someone was saying that tampering may have taken place? Apparently he had his mind made up since December. Dont quote me just what im hearing.

  36. I think what you were looking to say is Rice has different standards, which isn't too difficult since SMU has none.

  37. I think Moore will leave and maybe Cotton. Both of the HS recruits we are bring in are guards and one is a point guard. If Jones, McCollum and Edwards stay, they won't have many extra minutes at the guard spots.

  38. I mean...we went 1-1 against SMU, so its not like we didn't beat them.

  39. https://meangreensports.com/news/2024/3/25/softball-savage-named-aac-pitcher-of-the-week Junior Skylar Savage was honored as American Athletic Conference Pitcher of the Week, the league announced on Monday. The Van, Texas native tallied two of the three wins in the circle over conference rivals Tulsa, including a complete-game seven inning shutout on Saturday. She held the Golden Hurricane to a .152 batting average while she allowed zero runs on five hits and two walks with three strikeouts.

  40. That would be 10 returning: Buggs, Scott, Edwards, Moore, Cotton, Walker, Sissoko, Jones, Noland, and Stone Plus 2 high schoolers signed That leaves only one ship open, of course that could and probably will change. NT obviously has to find a big to replace Allen. This assumes Jones has another year of eligibility and NT doesn't lose players to the portal or encourage players to find another home. I would not be surprised to see Moore, Stone, and Cotton move on to places that they may play significantly more. I am not sure what the transfer rules are now, but I can see a lot of teams looking for offense to go after Edwards and Buggs.

  41. Pretty incredible that UAB is keeping him. Guy could go anywhere and get paid $$$. The good teams in the AAC are keeping their best players. Except us last year. Maybe this year will be different for us?

  44. Ladies have done well lately after a difficult schedule to start the year. Like the fact that we upgraded the facilities, yet think we can do more for them. I'm remote so see games but those last few were still exciting with the walk off homers, etc. Understand the impeding runner from the base rule, but it has to be modified. Tulsa was clearly out at 3rd base long before getting to the bag and our girl was definitely out at home yet they both offset and things worked out. Shame those decisions can affect the game with such impact. Exciting times to be a Mean Green Fan across the board.
