  2. My kids disappeared into the backyard for a couple hours. Turns out they were making a highlight video...oh, and James Reese plays football now too. 075A88E4-9CAE-4855-AB7C-3283406FE360.MOV

  3. Zachary Simmons should use this a motivation. He has the ability to be at least a second or third team all conference player. He needs to play like one. As good as our team defense is, we should have had someone on that group. Maybe Bell. Maybe he will get 6th man of the year. We should get player of the year in Hamlet and Coach of the year in Grant.

  4. Thanks again @BigWillie for opening up a alumni association bar tab on your credit card.

  5. One good thing about this...we only have to bring three suits.

  6. I’ll take credit for letting you know about it, but I can’t take credit for arranging it. That credit goes to the hard working grossly understaffed folks employed by the UNT Alumni Association.

  7. That's just not acceptable to me. Regardless of what Wren has said, Cal is dropping our game, and giving us $1 million. In my opinion the value of hosting Cal is of far greater value than the million bucks. Wren has to replace that game with a P5 home game. If he can't then UNT will not host a P5 until at least 2027. And what is to say Texas Tech won't pull a Cal and buy out that return game too. If I were Wren I'd take that million and put it towards trying to buy a home game against "the U" in 2022 with no return game in Miami. They have the opening, and would probably welcome the opportunity to make $1 million while playing in front of DFW recruits. They might say no, but it wouldn't hurt to try.

  8. Kinda surprised no one made the all defensive team but oh well. Glad for Hamlet and Gibson! Still think we win coach, player and newcomer of the year!

  9. Who will win player of the year? Best player on the best team or a guy who scores a lot on a bad team?

  10. That has been her favorite player for four years. I also love that she taught them to take a knee to pray in the "end zone" after they run out onto the field. 😀

  11. Next up wKY, who is 20-4 and has a couple of impressive pitchers. However they have not played anyone of note other than Troy.and Ball State(15-6), the Cardinals probably being the best team they’ve faced all season,...maybe? wKY isn’t considered in the top 40 teams by any ranking services and has not played any team in the top 40 either. In fact wKY hasn’t played a single P5 school, choosing to instead pad their entire pre-conference schedule with pillow fight programs such as Lipscomb, College of Charleston, North Florida, Chattanooga, Tennessee Tech, Green Bay, Indiana State, IUPUI, Illinois State and Belmont. Now, they did just sweep Middle in three very close games in their conference play opener but Middle is a .500 team and has played a pretty similar schedule as wKY, with the exception of getting run-ruled 9-0 against #13 Kentucky. So on paper, despite wKY’s impressive 20-4 record they do not match up to us. But we shall see? Rick

  22. Has anyone pointed out yet that North Texas players in 1968 (Joe Greene's senior year) did not have their name on their jerseys? Here is a game photo from 1968. Notice that #85 does not have his name on his jersey. So anything you get representing Joe Greene's jersey with his name on the back from his playing days might be a good reproduction, but it's not "authentic".

  23. ODU beat FAU twice this year, the second time was in overtime last week. It’s tough to beat someone three times so I suspect we’ll face FAU Thursday. Rick

  24. And that’s a final. 11-3 Mean Green. and our first CUSA series win of the year. Nice to see the bats come back alive like that. I said two weeks ago that I thought utSA would possibly be our best nearest challenge in conference.and they sure look like they have a very scrappy group at the plate. But looking over their pitching they don’t have near the caliber that we do. That’s why it’s frustrating to see a day like yesterday. We should pound every arm they have, and today we did. Great win! Rick

  26. The girls just keep getting better. They were outscored in the first quarter by 2. They won every other quarter including 18-10 in the third. They made enough free throws down the stretch to finish off UTEP. They are peaking at the right time. Great job by Coach Mitchell and her staff.

  27. News and media haven't been honest for decades. The have to sell their sponsorships. They need views, web clicks, etc. What sells? Controversy. Put out there controversial stories, and people will tune in.

  39. I can tell you've been a fan for a while... 😂 I think we can trust WB to backfill with something worthwhile. Maybe not another P5, but I don't think it will be a FCS school because we can't play 2 FCS schools in 1 season, and we already have TX Southern scheduled).
    1 point
  40. That is probably about correct. However the loss in spectators and -more importantly- attention is important. Beyond that there is the loss in opportunity. Winning an FCS game at home will do little for future home games attention, beating a P5 early in the season could do a lot, help with media attention and -if it were to happen in a great season -be the difference in a new years bowl race. I think the lesson to take is not necessarily that we cannot go second in one and ones, but that they have to be pretty close to each other (the next season) and that the penalty for this case needs to be higher. Since games get scheduled so far out if the home game is the season right after the away game, it becomes much less likely to be cancelled.
    1 point
  41. And then you have to buy a FCS/G5 to come here to replace said game versus Cal, so expect a return of Bethune-Cookman for $600k and we will end up making about $400k on the deal.

  42. Whoa there Mr. Bloomberg? Do you ever recall us getting anything close to that in the past...for a buyout or to move a game? Rick

  43. Because of this, I'll be looking at our 1-and-1s and seeing how many of them involve us at their house for the first game. Never thought about it until now, but I speculate most of them are like that. It gives them the opportunity to have UNT at their house, then bail on the contract if something better comes.

  48. So we get the stadium seats and not the bleachers. I liked that, but the other side seemed to have very few people last time. Where we were behind the benches could get kind full.

  49. I believe we have very low expectations. Especially after seeing the football program. This is the least excited I have been about a basketball season since Trilli was the coach. There is no hype and no one is taking about us. I really hope we are a sleeping giant, but until I see us compete with OU at home I am skeptical.
