  9. Hard to believe that new are in our 10th year, but such is the case. We are set for the 10th ANNUAL UNT SPIRIT FUNDRAISER EVENT! This year a tad earlier due to scheduling conflicts, but, we have secured the UNT SOFTBALL COMPLEX for our event this year...keep all fingers and toes crossed for good weather this year! Since KICKBALL was such a big success last year...we are doing kickball once again. We will "kick-off" at 11:00am on Saturday, MARCH 21st at 11:00am at the UNT Softball Complex off Bonnie Brae Rd in Denton. Registration fee for player (which includes the "collectors item t-shirt of course) is still only $35.00 per player. This is a CO-ED EVENT, so come one...come all! WE will once again include a silent auction with all kinds of goodies to bid on...UNT and non-UNT items...AND...once again we will have some yummy brisket sandwiches available for those interested. We do have a couple of back-up dates should the weather not cooperate, so please take note of these dates as well...Sunday, March 22nd and Sunday March 29th. So, what do we need...(1) Players, (2) Silent Auction Items, (3) Sponsors, (4)) Silent Auction Bidders and (5) Spectators...if nothing else, please come out and support our event. The more folks that come, the easier it is to continue to obtain UNT Athletic Department and UNT Division of Student Affairs help and support. So, yep, we need ya! Here are the appropriate links: SIGN-UP TO PLAY HERE: https://one.unt.edu/annual-spirit-classic CAN'T PLAY, BUT WANT TO HELP WITH A DONATION OF ANY AMOUNT: https://one.unt.edu/annual-spirit-classic-donation-page QUESTIONS? Ask them here (other folks may have the same question) or PM me here on GMG.Com. I am sure I have left something out. So, check back here from time to time as I will use this thread to keep everyone updated as we progress toward game day.

  10. I don’t know that there’s one in particular other than just that this is a more talented team. Mccasland identified 4 transfers (Reese, Hamlet, Geu, and Bell), he recruited them hard, got them on visits, and sealed the deal. I think even he may have been a bit surprised to land all 4, which is why they took some time to announce Bell and make sure an extra roster spot was cleared up for him (ended up being Tikhonenko). All 4 of those guys are just good ball players and 3 of them can hit 3s while the other one is Geu who brings us so much everywhere else. In our 8-man rotation we just have so much more shooting than we have under Mccasland and defense has never been an issue.

  11. I agree on Simpson...very solid when he was in the game! And just as I thought when I watched him play in the 2018 state championship game (Beaumont Westbrook vs. Longview), I believe he is going to be a big-time player for the Mean Green!

  24. FAU comes in sitting at 11-5 overall and 3-0 in conference. Losses have come to U of Miami (FL) by 14, Alabama by 19, Florida Gulf Coast by 2 in OT, St. Bonaventure by 7 and USF by 2. Very weak OOC schedule. Conference wins against NutsaCK by 15, UTEP by 3 and Rice by 4. We win by 10+ again.

  25. It was Ryan's FT shooting that drove us nuts. Ryan is still .553 (26-47) at the FTL this year (his 2-7 against UTA kind of skewed the numbers) with Hamlet shooting FTs at a .857 clip (48-56).

  26. The FIU and FAU games may just be the best back to back games I have seen the Mean Green play in some time. The focus and intensity was evident from the start of both games. The way the team is playing defense, and if they can keep it up, could make UNT a contender for the conference crown. And, just as a side note...very proud and pleased at the was Rose Smart is playing off the bench. Was not sure if he could be a "bench player", but he seems to have accepted that role and , as a senior, has decided to do whatever it takes to help the team win. I have seen him "pass" on shot opportunities that last season and before he would have just jacked up...not this season. If he has an open shot...he will take it, but if not, he is looking to pass to an open man. Big change and really excited to watch him play...adding Gau was really a big addition for the team. His presence helps Zach a great deal and, interestingly enough, Gau can shoot from three range as well as under the basket...not that I want to see him taking a lot of three's mind you. Anyway, great two game home stand for the Mean Green. Fun to watch.

  27. Per 247, he also holds offers from Louisville, Nevada, TSU-SM, smuT, Tulsa, Washington St. and Wisconsin Rated a 4 star - .9397 6'3.5" and 190 lbs. Rivals shows the same offers, so I am not sure where the "ton" of offers is coming from.

  28. If he goes he goes. I was soooo worried about him leaving for K State last off-season (as my posts from last year show). Even if he had a good record in 2019 and the wheels didn't come off like they did, I told myself before the season not to get as invested in the coach and the staff as I was last season, because at the end of the day the program has to survive losing a coach or even a whole staff. I think he's a good coach and I think he will do well at a P5 someday. He probably won't be hired this off-season, but if he is, I trust the recent push to focus on sports from the administration. And, so far, I trust Wren Baker. Much more than I trust that ****head RV.

  35. And he could have been signed sealed and delivered. Coaches need to trust their evaluations... this kid blew up because he locked down every WR he covered. He would have signed with us in December and never received any of this attention (if he chose to sign early) which by the looks of it that’s a theme with this staff. Hmmm.... hard pill to swallow guess I’ll move on.

  37. You do have to give FAU credit, as they are the only CUSA team so far* to reach 3-0. And, 11-5 is nothing to sneeze at. They just won a weird game at Rice where they were up 55-33 at one point in the second half but then fell down by a point and finally ended up winning the game by 5. They seem to be a solid defensive team with good guard play and forwards who aren't afraid to stretch the defense and shoot threes. We will be favored, but this could be a tricky opponent to put away. *(Either Charlotte or ODU will also be 3-0 after they play each other Saturday.)

  39. Agree 100!! Either make a commitment by withdrawing your name for consideration for current job openings and “honor” your word by winning Conference Championships and Bowl games at North Texas first or resign. You have become the biggest distraction facing our football program’s success. Without GH and the good fortune of landing Fine it’s very doubtful you would have had the two 9 win seasons. Show some integrity by publicly withdrawing your name for consideration for any job openings and publicly making a commitment to North Texas or resign. Enough!!!

  41. Gus Malzahn seems to be doing just fine as an offensive-minded coach in the SEC West, and has a National Title to show for it. Dabo Swinney hasn't lost in 2 years as an offensive-minded coach. This tired argument that Spread Offense coaches can't win is just stupid. That said, he needs to identify a very good defensive coordinator, that's for certain. What piques my interest on this hire is that Miss St.'s program is NOTORIOUSLY dirty recruiting-wise, and has been for a very long time. Leach doesn't seem like the kind of guy that will deal with that very well. I wonder what recruiting will look like there under his watch.
