  1. I have got no updates yet. Some interviews have taking place. I think no urgency until coaching carousel slow downs. With candidate pool and money being discussed I think both OC and DC will be highly upgraded.

"Been waiting for a long two years to show I'm another Miami, Florida baller that's going to change somebody's team. Fans are going to get a high energy guy, very emotional for the love of the game and a dedicated hustler. I'm trying to win and prove myself."

  5. They didn’t dive into this in the 247 articles, but do you know what Mccrae and Dempsey were pitched as far as what type of front to expect? Given that Dempsey was a 3-tech in JUCO, I could see the coaches telling him he’d play 3-tech whether we go with a 3-man or 4-man front. Maybe same for Mccrae at end, but it’s interesting to me that we were able to get such solid JUCO players who had so many other options with no defensive coordinator or scheme to show them where they’d fit.

  6. I hate throwing English under the bus. He didn't want to be injured. The young man tried to contribute, but he just kept breaking down. Happens to some young men. Sometimes their frames are built to support the weight and stress they put on it. I wish we could have seen him at 100%, but I won't criticize him for trying only to be stop due to injuries. I wish we would go put a full court press on the DT from Duncanville, Mitchell, that is currently committed to Colorado State. CSU just fired Bobo and haven't hired anyone yet. He may be waiting to see what happens there, but we should be in his ear. Get Siggers after him, but we need another DT from high school to develop. I love the Dempsey committment and his video, especially the first interception where his sideline is going crazy, but we need some youngsters to come up in the program. If we can't sway Mitchell, then we need to get Sumbo from Katy, or hell, let's get both.

  10. English wasn't a mistake. The general fanbase placing so much hype on a 3 star DT P5 transfer without stepping on to the field was a mistake.

  11. I agree. Except I think our personnel is best suited for a 4-3, which I think is easier to recruit to as well (probably why we were able to bring in the personnel for it). KD Davis, Tyreke Davis, Kevin Wood, Gabriel Murphy, Grayson Murphy, Larry Nixon, Chris Thornton, Jordan Hunt, Taylor Jacobs, Jordan Brown, and Jacobi Johnson all are projected to be second-level linebackers on scholarship next year with only one of those 11 being a senior. If we choose to run a scheme that only utilizes two second level linebackers, then we have grossly mismanaged that position from a standpoint of how many scholarships we have assigned to it.

UNT is a great place.”

  14. IMO...B. English when healthy was a factor in play. Just to bad he was broke most of the time while at NT.

  19. Well seeing as both Riley and Todd Dodge have let their former high school players head on up to Denton, I think they understand it’s just a results based business. As an aside, I truly belief given another year or two, Todd Dodge could’ve turned out to be a pretty good coach. The problem was he messed up so bad his first 2 years that he couldn’t dig out fast enough to save his job. I think we would’ve won a few games in 2010 if the injury bug hadn’t hit so hard but when Tune and Thompson went down (in addition to a host of others) we just couldn’t push the ball down the field as well. Riley could no longer throw the deep ball and Chase Baine was a walk-on receiver. You can look at the statistics and see that he started moving more toward a balanced attack rather than a pass heavy offense. He was learning and I’m sure DeLoach helped him see the importance of a good run game. So while some joke about Todd Dodge being considered by UTSA and being a disaster for them, I’m scared shitless that someone else will take a chance on him and he will use the lessons he learned from coaching us and beat on us. If he ever gets back into college coaching, I hope it is for someone not on our schedule. Sorry, that one got away from me a little bit.

Free story on 247 https://247sports.com/college/north-texas/Article/North-Texas-Mean-Green-football-receives-commitment-from-JUCO-DE-Davontae-McCrae-140239678/Amp/?__twitter_impression=true “They were genuinely recruiting me as a top target and I know I will be a major factor day one," McCrae said. "They were trying to understand me as a player and student. They didn’t send me all that blah blah just to make me happy. I liked the honesty." Really interesting quote to read, especially when you consider it’s his second time through the recruiting process and he has heard countless pitches from dozens of college coaches to this point.

  22. We are a week from early signing day and he is retweeting our JUCO commits as of yesterday I feel good about him staying committed. His senior tape shows how quick and athletic he is for someone his size. He played at LB, QB and TE in addition to DE. We are signing some versatile players this year. https://www.hudl.com/video/3/9349116/5dd8a772386e0a0d68485134

  23. If we are being honest, Taggart went off, made a ton of money, and is taking over a conference championship team in the conference he left a long time ago. It isn’t THAT bad.

  24. Skladany's defenses were tough. I miss them. It was solid when we had an offense that could keep them off the field enough to get rest. I will never forget being in Apogee for The Stand.

  26. Delonte "Peanut" Taylor. If they had the 3 point line back then, he would have averaged 25-30 PPG. Great shooter and an in your face defender that knocked Mark Aguirre into the bench in the DePaul game at the Pit.

  27. Dodge wanted to retain Kenny Evans but RV told him no to any DD staff member. Then,...RV changed his position on this but by the time they got to Coach Evans he had signed on with Dooley at La Tech. And we have to give TD credit for realizing his mistake and trying to correct it. He fired Mendoza and brought in De Loach. It just happened too late. Rick

  29. In related news a YMCA is missing all of its chairs. *unpopular opinion* those chairs make them look bush as f**k but they’re in the same conference as North Texas. Their ridicule is our ridicule.

  31. Big XII, Pac 12, and ACC were on ABC. SEC was on CBS. B1G was on Fox. MAC, SBC, MWC, and AAC were on ESPN products. CUSA--"Hey, we could've just streamed it on Facebook!! And based on the attendance, maybe it didn't even need to be streamed or broadcast at all!!" CUSA West is the best we have ever had for a conference setup in 50+ years---but it doesn't take away from the fact that it is a horrible conference. The Texas schools in CUSA are all terrible. Basically, CUSA West was a race between the physicality of La Tech, USM, and UAB, all of which play defense and have huge linemen. F_Us are the same way over in the East. We play Texas HS system ball here, which means we focus on spread offense, hike the ball from 7 yards behind the scrimmage on 3rd and 1, and cant tackle or cover for $hit. Basically, the entire state falls into this rut--when Baylor becomes the state's bell cow, you know that the system is failing to produce developable talent to compete beyond these borders against really good competition. It sucks, but it isn't changing anytime soon either.

  33. Yeah, right. But it needs to happen. University presidents must get together and force this upon the current commissioners. It's not about wishing, it's about the leaders of our universities and conferences having the foresight and wherewithal to actually be worth their salaries.

  36. Not trying to short any team, just looking at the current rankings and numbers. Even without Bassey, WKU will be one of the favored teams. They have pre-season all conference pick Hollingworth and two other starters returning that averaged double figure points. They were picked first in the conference. NT was picked seventh with no players mentioned in the pre-season all league team. My point is that NT based on how the season has so far progressed, should challenge WKU, La Tech, UTEP for the top spot. It is looking a lot better for NT than what was projected.

  37. This looks good. Call East/West a new conference and North/South a new conference. Nevertheless, something has to happen. It just has to. I truly don't think anyone is happy with this setup. The teams associated with CUSA are crumbling from whatever relevant perch they were on. It's pretty frustrating.
