  1. No, this is what happens when you keep things locked tight and behind closed doors until the last minute. Most institutions affected in this way will not yet of had the time to process this and respond. Even a majority of senators when probed on their positive indications towards particular provisions admitted to not having read the bill and were just trusting leadership. Yikes, man, yikes.

  2. Hmm, may because they're making massive layoffs elsewhere, including here at home. https://www.dallasnews.com/business/att/2017/12/20/att-plans-lay-nearly-300-center-dallas-next-year http://fox4kc.com/2017/12/20/hundreds-of-metro-att-employees-laid-off-just-before-christmas/ It should also be noted that those who are getting $1000 bonuses are getting that from union negotiations completely independent of the tax bill.

  4. An update to this: A+ - (1) Reggie Williams A - (1) Keyvon Davis B+ - (1) Jaxon Gibbs B - (4) Austin Ogunmakin, Jason Bean, Deandre Torrey, Darrian McMillan C+ - (1) Jordan Hunt C - (7) Larry Nixon, Kason Martin, Dayton Leblanc, Keelan Crosby, Cole Brown, Josh Sa'afi, Jordan Redfearn 7/15 (46.7%) are "B" or higher I didn't count Carroll right now, since signs are pointing to him not being part of the class anymore. He would have us at 7/16 (43.8%). Still continuing the downward trend, but not as dramatically as before. I expect this number to continue to go up as we likely get more guys at the end who saw their offers dry up. I would imagine it will probably be around 50-55% with about 5 spots left. I really think anything below 65% is not very good recruiting. 65% having at least two other FBS offers doesn't seem that hard, but it has been. Any FBS offers at all. 13/20 should be very doable, and it still leaves room for underrecruited "system" guys and guys who the coaches see something in that other coaches don't. Certainly some great gets at the top, and plenty of "system" guys, but this class could use more foundation guys than just Williams, Davis, and Gibbs.

  5. They really should end this bowl (no name sponsor). No operable play clocks; and the score board isn't working. To only hope for 600 fans from both schools shows no one wants to go there. It's a 3rd world country. PLUS the stadium sucks. I rather goto New Mexico Bowl than the Bahama Bowl and I am in South Florida.

  6. Yeah, it's a press move and an alignment/backing move more than it is an indication of this being some saving grace for the people of this country. Still working my way through the TCJA, so not trying to say it's great or awful as of yet, but you saying the bonuses are independent of the bill is correct.

  8. That's rich coming from the fear mongering reality challenged GOP'er. Scared of the mythical Antifa. Claiming everything is a false flag. 911 was an inside job. Newtown didn't happen. Child sex rings in pizza joints. Crisis actors. Kenyan born president. /facepalm But the liberals are void of anything close to reality.

  10. I really think QB is a different animal than other positions, too. So many QBs get offered on size alone (Greer, Means), but you can find undersized QBs who can play on the FBS level but don't have many or any other offers because of height (Kellen Moore, Rakeem Cato, Blake Bogenschutz, Matt Johnson, McKenzie Milton, Mason Fine, etc). For the same reason, it's also easier for an underrecruited guy to pan out in scat back/slot receiver roles. Chancellor, Harris, Mike Lawrence, Evan Johnson, etc. These guys are underrecruited because of size but as long as they make people miss it doesn't matter. On the line, tight ends, linebackers, outside receivers, 3-down backs, defensive backs, the more offers the player has, the better chance he has to be good, statistically speaking.

  11. Man, I've been trying to read a lot on all sides to get my head around the changes that are still just trickling out because of the way this was passed, which was stupid, because gomeangreen.com had me covered the whole time. Thanks guys! I'm off to do some light financial planning in the VVIP if anyone would like to join me. @LoveMG is gonna share his top 5 investment plays of 2018 in the chat!

  14. WB got it right with the future games he has scheduled since Liberty got added. If you are going to play FCS games, play SFA or SHSU. They are the only ones who bring people to games because of their alumni bases. The others are just awful. And when you lose one (or in the case of Portland State, you get seal-clubbed and bent over a barrel), it just kills momentum at a place like UNT. But Texas State from the SBC, as well as Arky State or ULL, would be fine OOC teams to play again and would help you for conference play, as well as to have games that people will travel to attend.

  15. i agree with the other two teams. I rather play Texas State at least they would bring fans.

  17. Should this be moved to the Eagles Nest? It is becoming political tax issue. I come here to get from it for a while anyway. I rather argue uniforms, w-l records and O/C schedule. I can watch CNBC or FBN for my tax information.

  18. "So those that need to make ends meet will have to make some cuts. And those cuts will probably come from programs that aren’t revenue drivers like football and men’s basketball. We’ll be passed out in the floor from shock if coach salaries decrease accordingly to help schools pay the new tax. Instead, we’re bracing for future stories about athletic department cuts to other sports, especially at schools without large donor and alumni bases." https://www.yahoo.com/sports/new-tax-law-will-cost-college-athletic-departments-lots-money-185631171.html

  19. East Mississippi CC is the school that just about all SEC teams, send their prospective student athletes to school, to help the athlete to learn how to read and write, and to make grades high enough to qualify! I would bet that Saban is really pissed that these two big DT's jumped ship from Bama to join Butch Davis at FIU! What the heck does Davis have to offer to sway away players from Bama, Auburn, Mississippi, Miss St, SC, and Kentucky?

  21. Typical AAC apologist. The AAC is 1-9 in bowls against other G5 teams in bowl games over the last 4 years. The secret is out, the AAC is not good. If the AAC is lucky, SMU, Tulsa, and Tulane will shut down their football programs. What a joke they are.

  23. In a weird twist of fate, my family and I ended up on the same flight as the women's team on our way up to Chicago for the holidays. Got to talk to Jalie Mitchell for a while. Great group with a great leader. Not their two best showings of the year, but they have a great shot of going 9-3 in non-conference this year. Definitely building something special.

  24. Really, That's what you focus on in my post. Point is folks on this board have been critical of UNT recruiting and there thoughts on players talent based on offers and many other subjective criteria. Take a look. This is one of the last players UNT had that went to NFL. Wow...3A Powerhouse. Source: Wikipedia "Brad Kassell attended Llano High School in Llano, Texas and was a letterman in football as a quarterback. In football, as a senior, he rushed for 1431 yards and 20 touchdowns and passed for 839 yards and eight touchdowns, and was named the Class 3A All-West MVP, and won All-State second team honors. Brad Kassell graduated from Llano High School in 1998." Look at this. Mr. Kassell wasn't a QB in the NFL. Imagine that.

  26. Not that is matters currently, but I know some fence sitters up in the club level that are all paid off, but have soured on the whole gameday cost and have decided to not renew and let them lapse. I can imagine that some people, without the incentive of some money back on their club level investment may go ahead and let them lapse too. I, am not one of those people, but the bonus of writing off the MGC does play into where we do our end of the year holiday donations. We don't exchange gifts in my family, we donate to charities in the recipient's name. Definitely makes me want to veer toward ACLU or the Innocence Project with that end of year donation instead of upping the MCG. We can go back to the base level for MCG to have all our club seats. Donation pools are zero sum. Anyhow, just pointing out the edge cases where this does have an impact.

  32. This! Way way too early to say one way or the other. Remember, you did not get “full” tax credit anyway this year. I think 80% was countable. Just re-classify and create new “credits” for buying premium seats. We have far too many creative tax accountants around to not figure this out. Every NCAA program is working on it...and word will spread fast through the Tanaka. I recall when they first started to reduce to 80%. Lots of gnashing of teeth and hand wringing then too. Best advice for now...either standby and wait or get those next year donations in before the end of the year.

  36. I'll say this. If we can't beat SMU next year, it ain't happening for awhile. We have them here, with SL and Fine here, and they will be breaking in a new coach, without their NFL First Round Draft Pick at WR that we couldn't match up with in a 1000 years. Arky is a whole other animal. I would love to think we can beat them up there, but I know the odds are stacked against us for the obvious reasons. I think the other two games (Incarnate Word and @ Liberty) are embarrassing to be on the schedule and shouldn't be close at all.

  37. Yeah, and La Tech has done really well in snabbing 10+ 3 star kids a year while being a top 5 CUSA program in recruiting and on the field. See that correlation? See how it's not a coincidence?

  39. I do get what you are saying and plus-1d you.I just wish people would leave off the political side punches in one direction or the other or put them into another thread in the eagles nest. However I do think it is fair to wonder how this does affect UNTs athletic finances, which I do feel is relevant here. For example this is likely to play directly into how much WB can/will offer SL in extension conversation. SL was likely to get offered more than a million with incentives and bonuses, so the tax will matter and WB sure needs to get his information straight before engaging in those talks. It might delay those talks, which is likely no biggie and more importantly it is likely to change amounts.

If you don’t think the guy is delusional in this, you really have been drinking the look-aid. Take off your hate tinted glasses and see this nut case for what he is....delusional. Didn’t call all Dems delusional like your tirade against all conservatives. Get a life man, lots of fun to be had.

  46. Florida State was not on the level of Troy this year. Troy is a good ass team. This isn't Texas State out here. This team has won 21 games in two years and beat LSU. Ya'll should be saying "well at least it was a very good Troy team" Y'all should realize that New Orleans was an opportunity and the fans and the team failed. The turnout could have been better. It wasn't. I'm sure everyone had better things to do -- graduation, weddings, barbecues, high five time -- but Troy's people didn't. Sure, maybe that is sad in some way, and the average NT alumni is living a more fulfilled life but when it comes time to compare support NT looks whiny, quick to make excuses, and lame. They showed up and supported their team. And our, apparently non-trash, non-'hillbilly' fans were back in DFW sad that we weren't in effin' Shreveport or -- gah -- Frisco. Please make better complaints than "I'm sad that we lost to a good team that my buddy isn't familiar with, so it is hard to talk football with him".

  47. Ok. Way to compare apples to oranges. You realize they break Texas up into sections of recruiting... so every big time school sends a recruiter to drive the pinewoods of east Tx. That doesn't fit your narrative of consistently bashing the staff. I cant wait until you have to eat crow when these kids turn out to be ballers for us.

  48. 48 miles to Anna from DFW Aiport, and 15-20 miles out of the way, but if you read my entire post maybe you'd understand the argument I'm making. Didn't say he was number 1 player in Nation. If he was that good absolutely he'd have everyone knowing where Anna Tx was. He may have not camped, he doesn't enough defensive tape to warrant a coach going out of their way to drive to Anna when they can stay within DFW and hit 5-6 schools in the time it'd take to go out of their way.
