  1. Folks, I have just received word that we can expects some "special guests" at this year's GMG.Com BB Classic II game Saturday....We expect.... Form our Women's Team: Brittney Hudson From Our Men's Team: Kedric Hogans Alonzo Edwards Tyler Hall And from our BB managerial staff: John Kelly and Matt Walsh. All are attending with the knowledge and support of their respective head coaches and because they want to show support for the Cheer Squad who has done such a good job supporting them. GREATNESS! Love to see our students and student-athletes supporting one another. Come say hello to these fine students and student-athletes. Great to have them with us for our event Saturday. EDIT: OK, we have a note from compliance that only seniors who have exhausted eligibility can attend the event. So, we have had to revise the expected guest list...still excellent and still really great that these student-athletes can help and are willing to do so. We certainly do not want to do anything that could even remotely hamper eligibility for any of our student-athletes. So, we will definitely abide by the rules and are happy that the compliance folks responded with a ruling for us.

  2. I don't think you can give credit to slacker RV and mediocre-at-best coach JJ for this brilliant move. Obviously Karen Aston pulled some strings to get us in this tourney.

  3. I got this email this morning. If you need any more information, please contact Derrick Morgan of the Alumni Association!! Dear UNT alumni and friends everywhere: I was recently contacted by Xiaohu Xia, a UNT alumnus in Chicago who requested the alumni association's assistance in finding potential Houston-area granulocytes (white blood cell) donors for his Ph.D. advisor professor, Zhibing Hu, a Regents Professor of physics. Since then, I have been gathering information to forward to you and to ask you to forward to any UNT alumni and friends near Houston who may be willing to help a fellow North Texan in great need. Zhibing recently received a stem cell transplant for his leukemia at the MD Anderson Cancer Center. Unfortunately, he has developed a severe infection that is not responsive (so far) to antibiotics. Currently, he is in critical condition. In order to fight the infection until the doctors find an antibiotic regimen that is effective, he requires white blood cell infusions. Since stored blood at the blood banks are treated with chemicals, it cannot be used to obtain the white cells he needs. Fresh blood is required to provide the white cells needed. Although all blood types will work, the process of screening potential donors and the donation process is more involved and time consuming than normal blood donations. Thus, for practical reasons, donors from the Houston area are preferred. If you know of someone who may be willing to donate, please forward this email to them. Next steps for potential white blood cell donors… 1. Read the attached white blood cell donation information form and follow those instructions accordingly. 2. Inform the MD Anderson Blood Donor Center that you are hoping to donate to a specific patient and 3. Provide the patient name, Zhibing Hu and his Medical Record #734-242. In the event anyone has difficulty with the attached instructions, here is a direct link to them: http://www.mdanderson.org/how-you-can-help/donate-blood/donation-instructions/granulocyte-donation-information-07-27-11.pdf You can find this form and other information at: http://www.mdanderson.org/how-you-can-help/donate-blood/donation-instructions/index.html Please keep Zhibing in your thoughts and prayers, as he is literally in a fight for his life. His need for donations is vital. If you have any questions or need any additional information, please direct them to the MD Anderson Blood Donor Center at 713-792-7777 ext. 5. Thank you in advance to everyone who may be able to assist in some way. Your support is greatly appreciated. Sincerely, Derrick Derrick P. 6. I guess I was wrong about coach Dodge. I thought for sure he would get another QB Coach job somewhere at the FBS level. I guess he's back where he's supposed to be. Too bad. I think the beat-down he took at UNT broke his confidence. I didn't think there was any reason he should fail if he were to take a path similar to coach Graham, coach Briles, or some other successful HS HC who was an assistant for a while before taking over as a HC. Best of luck to Dodge at Marble Falls.

  12. To this day I really think things would have been different had TD gone a different way in his hiring of assistant coaches – ESPECIALLY the coordinators. It’s not common for a high school coach to find success at the next level, but remembering the “Dodge Mania” at the time it seems he was allowed to bring in whoever he wanted (I wonder if this had been discussed in the interviewing process) – just seems strange he would not have surrounded himself with “college level” experience verses the “comfort level” of his high school assistants. As they say, hind sight is 20/20, but it’s hard to believe the group of people that did the hiring process really thought out the impact of bringing in so many high school coaches at one time, or maybe Dodge believed and was able to convince everyone that the “system” was the key and these were the people to make it happen?????

  13. I don't mean this as a slam on Coach Dodge, but hindsight says he was more a product of SLC than SLC being a product of him. No doubt he had to be a good coach to collect the wins and titles he did while there. With that said they won before he was there and they have won after he left......

  17. Here is one thing I do know... TRUST IN MAC and CHICO. If Mr. Young will fit and can contribute, MAC and CHICO will bring him in... Does the prospect of bringing a stud high school qb from Denton get me excited? Yes. But, don't let high school stars blur your vision. We have actual "credible" coaches now. It is time to trust them. If he comes in...then awesome! We've all thought competition can only improve a program and a position. If not, either he didn't want to be here, or our coaching staff determined a scholarship would be better spent on another athlete for the University of North Texas. I'm no scout...or football expert. Just a fan. I hear this kid was great in High School from you guys and rivals/scout/espn. If he couldn't start at Tech, there is no shame in that, but I can't automatically assume he would be better than what we've got. Under the guidance of this coaching staff, DT, Osborn, mini-mac(like this nickname btw), and cooper jones could pass someone up that was great coming out of high school... I don't know why people can't or don't consider this possibility. TRUST IN MAC and CHICO.

  18. I'm with NT03. Why this kid hasn't already been offered is crazy! You offer for no other reason than to create goodwill with the Denton community. What's the fasination with Derek Thompson or any other returning starter? With 5 wins, this was still a bad D1 football team. Most of these guys are reserves on most D1 teams. Get Scotty Young in here and let the best guys on the field right away. Here's hoping the coaching staff will show this guy some serious love at the spring game!

  19. From what I saw, the Wide Recievers are looking good... Delgado and Bynes are solid, scout player #87 i think ran some great routes and some good catches.. Mainly hung out in the middle with a couple of the other guys.. CB is still a question mark, but time will tell Sooner than we know it, well be in Death Valley GMG EDIT: Biggest question mark is how are they going to replace the irreplaceable Deep Snapper Troy Kokjohn

  20. Probably a bit of both. Plus there are also "fodder" type schools that are included for the big boys to beat up on in the early rounds. If I recall usually there are 16 teams included...with four bigger name schools getting to be a host site (and assumed a trip to NYC). There's usually one pretty strong mid major type school and two that aren't considered as potentially dangerous per host site. I hope that we're thought of as the dangerous middie, but I don't honestly care. Time to surprise the Wildcats.

  21. By the way, just so you can place real people(Mean Green posters who many here know personally) as examples of those mentioned in specialized situations of our health care system who you can ask next fall at the tailgating events about how great our system is compared to where it's headed if the mandate isnt struck down, SUMG buys his own healthcare insurance, and he's not a millionaire. And PKC 90, 9 days after finding out he had an agressive form of brain cancer, met with three different surgeons to devise a plan of action, picked the one best for him and was under the knife and has been cancer free for three years now. Within a month after his surgery, one of the moms in our kid's music school was asking me about his situation because her sister, a resident in Alberta Canada, had been diagnosed with a tumor in the same area, but was having to wait 4 weeks to meet with one surgeon about her possible plan of action. I felt so terrible for her that I have never brought it back up to ask how it turned out for her sister. Rick

  22. Finally some photo's are posted of Allen high School's 58 million stadium. I went out and took a look at it yesterday and the pictures actually don't do it justice - pretty magnificent. I'd rank it as a top 3 stadium if it was in the Sunbelt - maybe higher when you consider it backs up to a 60 yard indoor practice facility. Allen High School Stadium - Link

  24. First, I wish Coach Dodge nothing but the best. Yes, he made some mistakes in his time at North Texas, but he handled the situation with extreme professionalism and class that many could learn from. Regarding HoustonEagle's comments above though, I totally agree. He was a .500 coach pretty much until arriving at SLC. There he found endless resources, kids from wealthy families willing to spend money on the kid's development and the ability to install his system at the 7th grade level, so that it was second nature to these kids when they entered Carrol High. He won't have the same resources, nor the pool of talent at Marble Falls so this should test his coaching ability. Again, I wish him much success, but Marble Falls isn't Southlake.

  29. By InsideRunnerSports Staff March 28, 2012 "The State of Texas and Florida are very important for the future of the Sunbelt. Whether it's retaining existing members that currently reside in those states or adding new schools from either or both states. That is still a priority," said Benson. As for UTSA and any other school that could be eyeing the Sunbelt, Benson did give an idea of when things could possibly unfold, "June first is a realistic date to have the plan executed." One final tidbit that Benson added was to address more speculation about the Sunbelt and his former conference the WAC, possibly joining forces, "There have been no discussions on a Sunbelt/WAC merger." 31. I think each conference is limited to having one team compete in NIT and schools from that conference are only allowed to attend the NIT once every 4 years. There are usually 4 teams from the power conferences. They usually have another 2 or 3 really good mid-major programs. It's rare, but sometimes the programs from the power conferences don't make it through to NYC (usually top 4 teams are good and get games at home so upsets are rare). VCU made it in 2010. I doubt UNT is considered to be power mid-major since we are playing KSU (unless taking 5 from power conferences - usually MVC type teams get home game in first round and then forced to travel to Big 12 type teams). However, I think there is a really good chance this game will be on ESPN. Plus, this is a seeded tournament so upset KSU and then the next game is very winnable. Great exposure for program and very excited to play in this tournament.

  33. Yesterday evening, we recieved word that my sargeant's brother was killed in an accident. One of the brothers had been in an accident, and the second brother was on his way to the scene when he lost control of his truck, hit a tree, and was killed instantly. He was a father of a little girl I believe.

  39. Yep, My best friend from high school lives in Canada. He has back problems and initially like the free health care for maintenance. When the problems got worse, he used his own money to travel back to the U.S. (dual citizenship) and pay for his back procedure so he wouldn't have to wait 6 months for surgery. Now, he puts aside a certain amount of his salary for his families medical care (HSA anyone?). Oh, they use the socialized health care system (which is exactly what Canadians, well, western Canadians, anyway, call it) for maintenance or minor illnesses, but any major conditions or any type of surgery, they load up and head for the states. And, if you talk to working class western Canadians, every single one of them gripes about having to pay over half their salary in taxes (after income, sales, gas, etc...). You should hear them complain about the free ride the government gives the native population.

  43. why should a government job be a job for life if there is no need for your position or your position needs to be cut because of budget cuts then you should be let go....what more explanation does someone need just because they work for the government why should they not be subjected to being let go if there is not a need for them any longer and if they violated a rule of employment that would be explained to them when they are let go just like anywhere else and for those that know what was going on and that were able to read the available information we know why Dr. b was let go.....because she wanted to run the university as a president should and she did not want to let the idiot lee jackson run the university which is not the job of a chancellor in Texas she wanted to raise tuition and lee did not and when she took it to the BOR he got mad she wanted to stop the Denton campus from subsidizing the UCD and other dallas economic development projects and lee wanted to continue to use the Denton campus as a city of dallas economic development slush fund she wanted to be informed when things were being taken from the Denton campus and she wanted a say in that and the idiot lee wanted to move it all to dallas to benefit his friends and associates and she resented that and questioned it so lee the idiot fired her
