Girls win Track

Recommended Posts

Track is largely ignored, but one of my favorite sports. I didn't know what to think of the hire for new track director but he has started very well considered he was not here for recruiting last year and the men's team in particular was really short handed.

The girls winning the championship was great. When WKU tied them with one event to go, I thought it was over for the championship. WKU had the best time in the conference in the 4x400 at 3:45.01. The NT girls with 3 freshmen running, Jamilia Cartwright, Chastity Stewart and Kendria Burton and one junior Ashley Harrison blew away WKU running a 3:42.74.

Others that had metal meets:

Men:

Steven White probably the best athlete in the conference, won first in the 400 hurdles with 50.68

The Men's 4x100 won, team included Hickman, White, Collins and Fowler

Matt Ross got a 3rd in the 1500

Clinton Collins got 2nd in 400

NT also got 2nd in the 4x400, White, Fowler, Hickman and Collins again

Women:

Sarah Vann 2nd in P. V. at 11'8, Sarah Korn tied for 3rd at 11'2.25

Chelsea Hermes 2nd in very tough heptathlon

Shahaf Bereni won high jump and set conference meet record at 5'11 1/4

Sara Dietz finished out great NT career won 1500, Josephine Adams got 2nd

Ashley Harrison third in 400

Sara Dietz second in 800, Adams got 3rd

Ashley Starks got a 2nd in 100 hurdles

You won't find a more quality person than Coach Carl Sheffield. Proving to be a great coach and a great representative of North Texas. Yes, I know him personally, but he has and will do a great job.
