I have no problem with Denton marketing itself to visitors. If they can pull this off, that gives the local promoters some experience and can demonstrate that we can host large crowds... for like, a new bowl game?

Oklahoma has an established following. It's got a bunch more football fans than we do, and it also has the money to go with those fans. It's also in the Top 5. As much as we are Denton's home college team, we may not have enough to really be a draw for tourism $$. Oklahoma is.

Do you really think this would happen in Lubbock, Waco, or even Sanger? There is a reason Denton was voted sorriest sports town in America years ago. I hope it fails miserably for them. They do next to nothing for either University and would be the size of Decatur without them. Lewisville and others closer to Dallas can handle any overflow and are football towns. OU fans are sofisticated enough to know Denton's football reputation and won't be enticed to stop in little "d". In fact I did observe that little "d" sits on the TEXAS side of the Red River. Why is it acceptable to appease the Okies to the detriment of your own state? I guess when you don't care about your hometown team you don't care about your state either. Classic hypocrites these Dentonites. :sword:

Doesn't help that the ou/Texas "packages" being touted for us Okies are higher than the online quotes anyone can get. Glad it's the UNT games (soccer and football) that we come for.
