Looks like the Phony fans want to emulate the Mean Green March..

"As i arrived early last week at the unt game was walking to the stadium and here comes police cars escorting buses.They stop buy there tailgate area. people lined up everywhere,here comes the band the cheerleaders through the hundreds that formed leading to the stadium and behind them is the team.These kinds of things go on at all the places we play.As i watched this i thought to myself this is unt doing this not some big university.As hard as these young men work its never happened at smu. this saturday at 4:35 [approx] as usual the team and coaches will walk from the chapel to the stadium,and as normal there will be the same 25 people cheering for them.Just a thought that mabey once things could be different,mabey some students and or fans might actually show up.Save all the remarks about win and they will. I still believe in this team and still believe they will turn it around this year.and can promise you they wont quit."

Don't fall for that NT91. They aren't going to change their opinion of us. I can't take much of what SMU fans say seriously with their view on the college football world. It is very skewed.

For a long time fans and UNT administrators, and those associated with the university acted as though it wasn't a big university.

That has changed, but will take some time to change that image.

She wants to make changes and said that NT is an excellent university and it needs to start acting like one.

"It is easy to do things we have always done them, but it is not always OK," Bataille said.

I like the march, mean green village, and the "What time is it..." chant. Good traditions that get me to the game and in my seat early.

A tradition I would like to start seeing was something I saw after the SMU win... The entire team and coaches went over to the student side and sung with the students (either the alma matter or fight song, don't know which). Seeing them do this gave me great pride in our team and our school. Whether we win or not, it engages the fans and would probably put more student butts in the seats. Plus, it involves the band, which ties into our school's music tradition, but just barely.

Maybe some of you know if other schools do this same thing? If not, it could be something unique to NT, for a change!

We did the "Walk of Frogs" when I was a player from '93-'97. Of course we stunk back then...but it was always depressing to see only a smattering of fans. I think it did more harm than good. If you make it a big deal and have a lot people there, I think it's a great tradition. Apparently, some of the SEC schools have been doing it for decades. Good luck at TU!

Almost all schools other than North Texas do it every game, win or lose. It's not considered optional, it's a matter of pride. It's a show of gratitude by the players towards those people that support them, a time for supporters to salute the efforts of those players, and a sign of unity even at times when it's not a celebratory situation.

Some people will argue that the players owe their school and their fans no allegiance whatsoever, or that the players have been trained since the third grade to sulk in humiliation, hang their heads, and quietly shuffle away after a loss.

I argue otherwise. We are ONE Mean Green Nation. We celebrate OUR victories together and we deal with OUR tragedies together. We never fail to show our pride in being part of that Mean Green Nation, and for damned sure, we never walk out while our alma mater is being played.

We can only suffer Division from Within when people in leadership positions divide the family with an us-against-them mentality. No finger pointing intended, it's just a fact.

WE ARE NORTH TEXAS!

THAT, Cerebus, IS ALL THERE IS TO SAY ABOUT THAT.

Maybe 2006 will be the dawn of a new era: A time when emotional bonds stronger than ever before between the athletes, the student body, the alumni, and the administration/faculty unite the University of North Texas into finally accomplishing it's potential: A time when the third largest university in Texas begins to exercise it's abilities and lets it's pride show.

Oh, and special thanks to Chuck Beck, Gary May, and Rick Herold for putting together the Mean Green March. I t has proven to be an enourmous success. It's an excellent time for fans to honor the team (coaches and players) and it has certainly been a boost in creating school spirit.

Whether or not the person who posted this thinks UNT is big, at least we can freaking spell.

Notre Dame has always had an impressive version of the Mean Green March, but I don't think it involves the players (which to me is the whole point of the march). At ND, the band marches by the residence halls on the way to the stadium. As the band passes each hall, residents fall in behind the procession and follow them to the stadium. Very cool.
