LA Tech and ODU in the Vegas 16

Recommended Posts

There's a new postseason basketball tournament called the Vegas 16. It's so unpopular that the planned field of 16 had to be cut to 8 for its inaugural season.

But there are two representatives from C-USA: Louisiana Tech and Old Dominion. In the first round yesterday, ODU defeated Tennessee Tech, 75-59 and Louisiana Tech lost to East Tennessee State, 88-83.

The name still works given that it is in 2016.  They should just call it Vegas 17 next year and the number of teams won't matter.

Say what you want about these lower-tier postseason tournaments, but in the end ODU finished with at least some sort of championship that they can tout, 25 wins overall, and 3 more games against solid opponents to help prepare their returning players for next season.  So sure, the tournament carries no real prestige (understandably), but overall it seems like it was a positive experience for their program.
