  1. This is AWESOME. Now, how do we get Rubin over to that copy machine?

  2. Defense was ok. Not great, but not bad. Showed flashes of stopping the run. Secondary was aggressive in the run game. D-Line and linebackers need to get more involved. More pass rush also. But didn't give up any big plays. Offense 1st team looked good. Scored almost every possession. Running backs a little banged up so didn't see them all. Stone was with 1st team QB. Looked accurate. Ran the offense well. Good timing with receivers. Cash was 2nd team QB. Looked solid. Good arm, but a little late on a couple of throws. Ran the ball well when he had to scramble. Reese was 3rd QB. Didn't do much. Missed some receivers and completed a couple of short passes. Overall a good scrimmage. Looked better than this time last year. O-Line will be solid. Kicker made a 51 yarder during live scrimmage. So that's good. Saw Chandler Morris there watching. Not very big. Smaller than Stone. Will be interesting to see how things play out this summer.

  3. They are rebranding. With their move to the ACC their Jersey's will now say "America" they are upgrading to call themselves "America's Team".

  4. That was 7 away games and Kansas was at Texas Stadium. UAB was 1AA in 1995 and had been Division 3 until 1992. That homecoming loss was one of the most disappointing losses in my almost 50 years as a fan. Dan McCarney proved that it can get worse. No thank you. One good thing about that season was all games were telecast with Gil Brandt as one of the announcers. The come from behind victory over Oregon State is certainly a top highlight of my memories as a fan.

  5. Sad to see him go but he has to do what's best for him especially if he didn't foresee getting sufficient playing time here. I loved when his father played at North Texas during the Jimmy Gales years, and his brother Bobo would have been best served if he had transferred here after committing to LSU and enrolling at UCLA. Baylor never provided him an opportunity to develop. Best of luck young man.

  7. Heard Shane Porter got reps at RB and ran pretty well. Scored a rushing TD and 1 catching TD.

  9. Lots of missed opportunities this season. We were streaky within most games. Easy layups would have been great instead of the circus slam dunks that failed. Out-of-control ball handling into the paint for a turnover, an extra muffed pass causing the shot clock to expire, poor free-throws that would have sealed a win, etc. Ross hopefully will clean up much of it. The team needs more play-ready reserves, 3 Bigs instead of 2, 3 power forwards instead of 1, more inside game instead of just outside. Year 2 will be interesting from the roster makeover and retention standpoint.

  10. Yes the Jamaican national team player is a great pick up along with an outstanding class coming in for this fall! Team had some unfortunate injuries late in the year after being ranked top 30 most of the season…no question the winningest program at 16 titles will be back strong!

  11. He looked real good. With some RB's out he got a lot of reps. Very shifty and quick. Had a couple of big runs.

  14. He seemed like a great team player, and I heard he worked hard in practice. Best of luck and I hope he finds the right school.

  15. I live here so I finally don't have to travel for a game this year. But if you are bringing a travel trailer try stay at Buffalo Springs Lake. My father in law takes his out there on the weekends and enjoys it and it's only about a 15 minute drive to the stadium.

  16. Let's keep targeting the Kansas colleges! We need a contingent of Mean Green fans to support the team in Wichita.

  17. I'd like to have an actual 3 as well. Someone Aaron's size but a little stronger, who can handle the ball well, and can threaten to get some easy points at the hoop just as well as he can threaten to make a 3.

  18. year 2 will be interesting, players move around a lot now. I think with every class you need to find at least 1 big. UNT has also had good luck recruiting at the juco level.

  19. The game against Memphis (around 2800 IIRC?) was our fifth-highest attended game in history. Hope in a couple years it's not even in the Top 10!

  21. I have no problem believing they do for most of the entities that ask. But for a lot of my ideas including this one it's something we just can't wait to happen. We've got to start the dialogue with these high school student organizations. In my short time organizing group outings at away games, I've found out that most non-art nerds would be interested in attending a game, they just never thought about it, and especially after graduating there's nobody else guiding them to go to a game. Before the men's basketball game at Rice, I spent the last week before searching UNT alumni on LinkedIn and filtering out the Houston peeps. In that short notice I was able to woo the interest of four parties buying 8 extra tickets, and gained contacts for the future who said they'd be interested in going, but understandably already had plans that weekend. There was some initial weird feeling before sending messages off to strangers, but that wore off. I had a lot of great conversations. The university needs to be more aggressive in forging relationships with the community in ways that don't seem like they're soley after your money.

  25. One thing Ross can do is recruit. He essentially recruited our entire team last year. Rubin and Scott to stay and Edwards, CJ, Allen, Buggs and Walker to come. We might have a ton of roster turnover, but Ross knows how to stock the shelves.

  29. His height is probably what is keeping a lot of bigger programs away, but last time we picked up an undersized PG from a neighboring state that everyone else passed on (way back in 2007), we wound up with a HOF'er. 🤞

  30. Did your girlfriend approve of the way Hodge addressed his players? I think this goes a long way in determining whether we are successful on the recruiting trail or not.

  31. If this team stays together we need a legit big man with post presence and an athletic power forward in the mold of Thomas Bell. If we get these 2 positions we are going to be looking very good next year.

  32. There's no recruiting dropoff. Hodge is likely more relatable than McCasland anyway. Coach Hodge brought in Edwards, Noland, Buggs, Walker & Allen over the last cycle. Also, Phil Forte, who is a good coach/recruiter. The two HS kids we have lined up appear to be nice players (Taylor ranked the #20PG in this class), and based on last year's success, I think it's safe to say he knows what he's doing when finding guys in the portal & JUCO.

  34. https://meangreensports.com/news/2024/3/25/softball-savage-named-aac-pitcher-of-the-week Junior Skylar Savage was honored as American Athletic Conference Pitcher of the Week, the league announced on Monday. The Van, Texas native tallied two of the three wins in the circle over conference rivals Tulsa, including a complete-game seven inning shutout on Saturday. She held the Golden Hurricane to a .152 batting average while she allowed zero runs on five hits and two walks with three strikeouts.

  35. I figure he and Dixon transfer and Allen graduates. The rest should stay. We replace those with two solid big transfers from the portal and then pick up a younger combo guard.

  36. There is a disgusting amount of people I know that religiously watch their T-shirt school every Saturday but is like pulling teeth to get them to UNT games. Both football and basketball. The excuses are always the same. But it all comes back to the lack of engagement when we were in school.

  42. As long as Kennedy is at UAB, they will continue to be a thorn, and it doesn't look like Charlotte is going anywhere. Does Memphis do anything over the offseason? It's nice to have a team that's always contending. We actually have to think about what the other contenders are doing to keep up/be better!

  44. It works both ways. I bet OU wasn't too happy to lose one of their brighter young guys last year in Noland (a guy who started 8 games for them as a sophomore). But Noland wanted more run, and he found that here. I'm glad he did. I bet OleMiss wasn't too happy to lose Allen (a 13-game starter last year), but I'm thankful they did. It's just a part of the game you have to play. Recruiting is a different animal now.
