clearly, you don't know your history. It passed here. That is how we got apogee. We passed it during the middle of the awful dodge years, not coming off two conference championships like UTSA20 points

NT students not only voted to pass an Athletics fee, they voted a few years later to allow the fee to be raised and the SGA to be allowed to raise the fee without a student vote.13 points

Didn't that vote in 2008 that built Apogee come with a delay of it being applied? I was in school at that time and for some reason I recall it being a vote in 2008 that essentially had the fee being added starting in the 2012 year. Basically meaning everybody that voted for it didn't actually have to pay for it. Am I recalling that correctly?7 points

Part of me wants to laugh at UTSA but the other part isn't happy about this. A strong UTSA is good for us - the fans travel well.7 points

That was also 2008, I'm sure students are more weary of having additional expenses when it comes to tuition these days.7 points

As far as Army being "dirty", my issues with playing them (as well as other triple option teams) was less to do with specific players and coaches, but the style of offense and cut blocking leading to increased injuries to players. However, the NCAA passed a rule last year, and they no longer allow cut blocks outside the tackle box. Army and Navy have both had to adjust their offense, so I'm no longer as concerned. We'll see how it all shakes out. But the service academies are GREAT opponents to have when it comes to fan engagement and media attention.6 points

This isn't surprising to me at all. With the rising cost of attending college/NIL/etc, I don't blame students one bit for pushing back on mandatory athletic fees. Part of me feels like Athletics has even brought this on themselves. With athletes getting NIL deals and whatnot, if I'm a non-athlete, why would I vote to pay for you to get to play when you may already be getting paid through NIL?6 points

I love what y’all are doing and love the transparency. Keep up the great work!6 points

Yeah, I was going to say the same thing. As much as I'd like to enjoy the schadenfreude, a conference mate failing to secure a financial commitment to allow them facility upgrades is NOT a good thing for the conference. We shouldn't feel the need to rely on the failure of others for us to be successful.5 points

Members of the North Texas men’s basketball team pose for a photo during an event with the Mean Green Collective. The group formed a name, image and likeness collective recently that aims to bolster the school’s basketball. read more: https://dentonrc.com/rsssports/new-unt-collective-aims-to-bolster-basketball-program-through-strength-in-numbers-concept/article_276baea0-ccca-59cb-8aec-27fdb8c526d0.html4 points

Army plays hard which I expect but with the one exception I do not see them as being "dirty". The spearing non-call in their last visit here was the exception. I have great respect for all three service academies and welcome the chance to play them on a regular/semi-regular basis. Kudos to our commissioner for getting them on board.4 points

If we put it on the ballot again today, we might see the same results. I think many students are tired of having so many extra fees added to their education.4 points

Or a university with hundreds of thousands of alumni could rely on its alumni to provide donations and buy season tickets. Oh that’s just silly isn’t it?? I paid about $1200-1500 a semester for a full schedule of 15-18 hours a semester in the mid-90s plus the dorm of a a few thousand a year including the meal plan. I seem to recall 4-5k a year. So that is around 8k a year total. Maybe. Now: Undergraduate Students The average annual cost of attendance for a Texas resident living on campus and enrolled in 15 hours per semester is$27,937.3 points

So how long until UTSA becomes a bottom dweller AAC program? They got in on their football merits with growth potential but what happens WHEN not IF Traylor eventually leaves.3 points

Turnout didn't seem any better despite a rival and the team pushing to break the facility attendance record, unfortunately. And unfortunately another sport for SMU to knock our teeth in at. Our ladies looked like they were just watching the ball at the start of each half, in which SMU scored in the first minutes of each. And then they score 30 seconds after our lone goal of the night. Sucks we couldn't even make the Top 8 of the AAC after years of dominance in CUSA. We didn't even get a single victory against a team that was already in the AAC, only a couple of ties against teams we probably should have beaten (Tulsa, ECU). Hope this is a wake-up call.3 points

Theirs was already pretty much equal to ours. Ours now is $16.25/ hour capped at 15 hours, whereas UTSA’s current fee is $20.00/ hour capped at 12 hours. They were really looking for a large increase of $1.50 per year, where it would reach $27.50 by the 2027/2028 academic year. A bit ambitious in these times. They reached too far.2 points

I’m sorry that our conference mate couldn’t get this done. No love here for UTSA but for the good of the conference, UTSA needs an on-campus facility. Now, just for fun, search out that old YouTube clip of hitler (lack of capital intended), learning that UTSA would not go bowling. The discussion of the “college experience. One of my all time favorites.2 points

It’s a student (studying in the library) and it’s an athlete (the football player). The irony is that the athlete is wearing his football equipment. I have never seen a fully uniformed football player in a library. I thought it was funny.2 points

Rice has to be one of the most Jekyl and Hyde teams I’ve ever seen. Beat Houston, but lose to UConn. Lose to USF by 13 and beat Tulsa by 30. So, yeah, I could see them beating Tulane…or losing by 20+.2 points

Yeah, I wonder why that is. We keep bringing them on and we keep wondering why no one gives af about UNT athletics. I don't keep wondering. I know why. Your comment is it, but people seem to not get it. Then the F bois that openly say they "settled" with UNT deem UNT not cool enough and choose to drive down to college station in maroon or Lubbock in red/black where their HS buddies are going.1 point

In your rush to pat yourself on the back and justify your previous comments, understand that this young man had three offers when we extended our offer, Arkansas St., Incarnate Word and TCU. He obviously liked us better than TCU1 point
-
He's probably just referring to conference affiliation. And he is certainly correct on that point.1 point
-
I don't get this logic at all. If an athlete makes our team better NOW, I don't care where they end up 2 years down the road. You can't go out and stop recruiting good athletes because they have offers from other programs and you're scared they might leave your program in a year or two.1 point

What a stupid ass comment about a man who has gone out of his way to get recognition and open doors for North Texas. Some of you who claim to be North Texas fans go out of your way to dump crap any chance you can.1 point
