I think the NCAA created more problems than they thought they were solving with this stupid "one year free transfer" rule. Think about how P5 schools could really screw G5's around this year. EX: Grayson McCall is an unbelievable QB at Coastal Carolina and he's only a freshman. Waaaay too early for a graduate transfer and immediate eligibility. But this year, if some P5 needed a QB, voila!, the G5 schools becomes a de facto minor league for the P5 schools. Thankfully he's staying from what I hear at Coastal. Either way, I can't wait for this dumb rule to be one and done.11 points

Can’t really say I’m sad about this one after the way he left NT with his attitude towards the program and his teammates his last season. I truly enjoyed watching him play, but character speaks louder than play-making in my opinion. Any athlete should know that.10 points

Thinking we keep Murphy twins at end in a 4-2-5. Only need two second level linebackers so we probably need them more at end from a depth standpoint, and rushing the passer is their most valuable trait. Looks like they’re going to have the size to stick there too.8 points

I keep reading on this broad how small NT players are compared to other teams. Baloney, size is not a problem, good is a problem. The thought that player x, who is recruited by multiple G5's, will develop into a bigger and stronger player on other teams compared to NT is silly. Based on what I have observed, NT strength and conditioning program plus nutrition emphasis is top drawer.7 points

Burrow didn’t battle it out at OSU though. He transferred to LSU and won a national championship there, not at OSU7 points

Could just be me, but i feel like our Offensive players progress and our defensive players regress...that tells me it is not S&C near as much as Defensive coaching and scheming. You can be fast, but if you spend to long thinking about what you are dong or start off in the wrong position, more than likely your speed and strength is starting from a weakened position.6 points

Greyson Thompson is a walk-on QB from Denton Braswell that had very good high school stats, Deion Sanders spoke highly of just prior to him coming to North Texas. Gilmore is reported to not be in the running to be a QB from various sources.5 points

That’s more on recruiting . Stop recruiting small, slow , un-athletic players and we wouldn’t have these problems. A strength coach can only do so much. The better player you recruit the better player you can develop from a strength stand point.5 points

Sign of the times. It has become about me and not we. Sometimes, working through perceived adversity makes you a stronger person and better player in the long run.4 points

I sure some players will be saying down the road of life "I have should stayed where I had a scholarship and finished my degree". When some players don't find a home I am afraid they will quit school and have one bad job after another. Hard to tell kids that age (I was just like them) anything at that age.4 points

I have a good friend on staff at UMHB in Athletics (she’s a NT Alumni as well!) - and she is dreading the spring season. She doesn’t know how they’ll get through all of the shuffling around they’ve had to do; including conflicts with other spring sports too. It doesn’t sound like the players are super excited about it either, but obviously they’ll still get to play, so that’s the plus. She says it’s just chaotic. 😅 Also - I think ACU is in an interesting situation. I know someone on staff there as well and he said they were playing some of their games in the fall (I think they were traveling to Army, played UTEP, and a couple others) and are playing some in the spring due to some of these conferences being switched to the spring now. I can’t even imagine the work that goes into all of that, not to mention a really long season for those players. We’ll see if it still plays out that way. After speaking with both of them, it doesn’t seem like a spring season would stick around for good or be beneficial in general for these conferences. It just doesn’t make sense to keep it this way in my opinion. 🤷🏻♀️4 points

The P-5 will look how it benefits them and tell the NCAA what the rule should be.4 points

I think one major issue to building an offense around Bean, is that to do that you would have to run the zone read quite a bit, and im just not sure his body frame is capable of carrying the ball 10-15 times a game for a whole season.4 points

This!!! Nobody wants to work and get better for playing time. I applaud Mac Jones for his tenacity in earning a starting job. It is so easy to just give up and transfer.4 points

If I see a posting of Emmitt going "home" to SMU, I might just give up4 points

With all due respect, this transfer hits me the softest. He was a hell of an athlete but not a QB we need for this offense. His arm wasn't strong enough to stretch the field and wasn't accurate to hit an out route. I hope he dominates at Army or a Flexbone offense where he can shine4 points

Bean was fun to watch and boy is he fast. You can’t compare him to Lamar Jackson though, because Bean has ZERO elusiveness. Bean never could earn the starting QB job in high school and he couldn’t hold on to it at North Texas. How much would having a real QB coach to learn from and build a relationship with have helped Bean this season. I don’t really see Bean as a FBS starter but will be interested to see how his career unfolds. I have a suspicion we have already seen it’s peak.4 points

I agree that the scheme this past system seem to be a cluster F. I also understand that the coaches are ultimately responsible, but there also need to be accountability by the players. There seemed to be no buy-in by this unit on what was happening. When PB comes in if we see immediate marked improvement it will tell a lot. After the showing this year I find it hard to believe any player on Defense would not be ready for a change and a chance to show others what they can do. We talk about the S&C program - look at the Murphy Twins! Why are the progressing and getting bigger and stronger. Could it be they are a little more self disciplined? This past season with the protocols it was more on the players to workout and condition than in the past. Can things improve - always. But to say the S&C program does not work when there are many positive example is off-base3 points

This. King is a very good player. he did what he thought was best for his "branding". He did what I worried Mason would. I am thankful Mason stayed true to UNT.3 points

The transfer portal "...helping young men break their commitments since 2018..." It's a shame many guys end up being left out in the cold and won't finish their education. Some guys like being recruited more than they like fighting for a job.3 points

Great point, but that also shows one of our problems. Access to the work out facility. Again our wt room is 5,000 sq ft and is used by all sports. That is 110 football players and the other athletes. The therapy facilities are really small. I know we have a master plan with football getting their own facilities, I don’t know how long that will take to complete. $$$$3 points

One of the keys for this, and most decisions, is who you get your advise from. The problem is most people want to hear only positives and not negatives so they limit who they ask. If you only ask those who will tell you what you want to be told then the risk probably increases. Being honestly critiqued is not easy for most, especially athletes who might have always been told how good they are.3 points

Coach Womack is a very good SC coach that bonds quickly with the kids. Him and his staff are interacting constantly with the kids and addressing the goals set by the staff. He has done an amazing job with the facilities he has.3 points

Circling back to this post as I’m moseying my way through recent forum topics catching up ... I found it interesting when seeing all of the Twitter announcements of players going to the transfer portal ... So many of them specifically thanked the S&C Program/Womack (some didn’t even include Littrell in their “thanks and see ya” posts, but I guess that might be expected if they weren’t happy). I don’t know why, but the ongoing direct thanks to the S&C Program just caught my attention. 🤷🏻♀️3 points

I think you are overlooking someone, Kuehne, and putting too much value on another, Drummond, as a true freshman from a tiny OK school. Drummond needs to redshirt next year. Aune is now the expected starter. Martin and Kuehne should get reps and a solid look. Thompson is a dark horse and intriguing based on comments from Deion Sanders. Gilmore may get a shot, but I think he will move to another position.3 points

I saw Bean execute zone-read options and he was NOT GOOD at it. Bean usually lost yardage on those plays. He may run like a cheetah in a straight line, but he has the elusiveness of a fire hydrant. The guy gave zero jukes. Lamar Jackson has an elusiveness similar to Barry Sanders (in addition to great speed). Bean’s strength as a runner was when the defense had all the receivers covered and he could pull the ball down and run into green space. No one was going to catch him. And he had some amazing gains that way. Not running a zone-read.3 points

Very bad news. I think Bean was the best QB NT had. Very few players anywhere and at any position have that kind of speed. Plus, Aune IMO is not the answer. He is a good backup, but if he is the best NT has; it is going to be a long year.3 points

Hope the kid finds what he’s looking for. But his body language when he was taken out of games was HORRIBLE. edit: before anyone views this as me dogging the kid, I actually like Bean a lot. Super dynamic and could be a good QB with more work. And 18-22 year old me would be pissed if I was taken out of a game too. It was just an observation and not something you want from the leader of the offense.3 points
