Duffy & Gibson need to work on their passing, They throw some lazy passes. But it was a great win for UNT and for the LATECH fans that said we had not played anyone, I guess we still haven't played anyone.9 points

oh yea...I forgot something in my assessment... if you're gonna be a snowflake ass-mutha-effa and try to -1 my basketball hot sports takes without actually replying to any of them...well...you should probably just go Michael Hutchence/Brian Wells/Thich Quang Duc yourself, because UNT basketball is back and I'm locked in. bitches.8 points

This was the best part for me. Took about a year for that Benford hangover to clear, but we’re back to JJ era attendance. Shocked at the size of that crowd for a non-P5 school during winter break. Great sign of the changing times at UNT and Denton. Also, LaTech is starting more and more to feel like a rival. A rivalry I can actually stomach (unlike the forced nutsack one).6 points

Finally, a statement with some teeth from Vito...tell it like is it Vito, "The fact the Mean Green knocked off Louisiana Tech in front of a crowd of 4,238 made the win all the better for UNT. The school has been trying to rebuild its fan base after Tony Benford pretty much murdered a good program with a considerable following over the course of five seasons." I don't even think the word "murdered" is an overstatement.6 points

quick assessment: - that is what conference basketball games will look like. - stop with the ref bitching. that was a very well-called game - weirdest and hopefully worst game by Woolridge this season. I also for the life of me can't figure out what's up with his shot. - thinking LT watched the Rice tape and saw Rose was finding his range and keyed on him. He's far from lock-down defender and Grant played match-ups. that we have that depth/versatility on the wing is impressive - Zach's development into a (very) poor-man's Duncan his so incredibly impressive. - I really liked the Arikawe usage tonight. he can bring a lot defensively and Grant patterned him in well tonight. and lastly... - the Draper 3 followed immediately by the most in and subsequently out 3-pointer I think I've ever seen was the difference.5 points

The men stopped a 7 game win streak by La Tech, moved to 14-1, broke a 4 game losing streak to them, and established ourselves as a team to contend in the conference. The girls beat La Tech for the second time ever, have now beaten them twice in a row, and beat them in Ruston for the first time in school history. So, which win was bigger?4 points

I really think La Tech is going to make a great rival going forward. A lot of sophomores and juniors in their rotation.4 points

It's hard to disagree with any of this assessment. I think we need to give a lot of credit to Louisiana Tech. With a shallow bench, they identified a couple matchup advantages and exploited them repeatedly until they were back in the game. They looked to me like the better team for large stretches of the second half. Still, if we have the kind of team that can close out tough games against the other CUSA contenders, then we are in good shape. 14-1 is a hell of an accomplishment. Going from where we were a couple years ago to the best start in school history is almost unfathomable.4 points

Once they had the lead they stop playing free. They were too patient in looking for the absolute perfect shot. Happens a lot with big leads. If you take a quick, wide open 3 and miss with a big lead, the coach screams that we don’t need that shot. I see it every day while reffing4 points

Shakeem? He isn’t ready to touch the floor, although if he is healthy I would get him garbage minutes. We don’t have a lot of options, but getting Wise and Muhammad next season is going to be really fun to watch. I will miss Miller though.4 points

https://247sports.com/college/north-texas/Article/North-Texas-Mean-GReen-basketball-hold-off-Louisiana-Tech-Bulldogs-behind-zachary-simmons-bucket-127298254/ The Mean Green were outscored 36-28 in the second half, but behind experience and leadership, held off Louisiana Tech for a statement win at home.3 points

I think Duffy dipped under last game which left us with 5 guys averaging double digits. Not sure how tonight affected it.3 points

match-ups. They clearly keyed in on Smart on our offensive end and he doesn't bring Miller's grit or Gibson/Draper's quickness on the defensive end...the latter being what Grant felt would better contain Bracey (kid can play). this is something I really like about this squad...it seems to be truly a team with few egos. 6 guys average double-figures is a great talking-point...seems like we're balanced and the ball is well-shared...but in reality what it's been more is one guy stepping up if/when others are off/taken out of the game. tonight Zach had a night and Duffy knocked down some big shots. now watch Rose drop 30 and Ryan grab a triple-double against USM.3 points

Good assessment, don't understand the hate for this post...unless it's by people who think we should only play the tallest players on our team because that's "how you basketball".3 points

thats a big gutty win...La Tech is one of the 2-3 best teams we have played this year and we found a way.3 points

Wasn’t giving us anything offensively, they were denying him the ball, and defensively he isn’t one of our best 5 against this La Tech team.3 points

Crazy how our single-season all time leading scorer has been relegated to the bench in the second half3 points

This may be true, however every team we play will try to get out two bigs in foul trouble because they can then attack more easily and rack up the offensive boards. Shut down Woolridge (meet him at half court) and get Simmons in foul trouble is the best way to beat this team. We still have plenty of depth; however that is a winning strategy for our opponents.3 points

I'm going to try to explain this to you again, but...just because a guy is tall, doesn't mean he is ready to/can contribute.3 points

Winning strategy is get fouls on Arikawe and Simmons. If both get in foul trouble La Tech can really take over the game.3 points
-
Mark isn’t suited up, but Shakeem is. I thought he was injured. If not we may need his size at some point, but Arikawe is doing a great job in there. I love his hustle.3 points
