  4. "Coach, with an older, deeper, and more talented roster than last year, how do you explain the team's lack of results on the court?" That's how you ask a question like that.

  6. The five "mid major" conferences remind me of the guys I used to interrogate after a drug warrant. Each of them, in a separate room, could be convinced that there was only one who could "save" him/herself by cooperating. Each an every time they sold eachother out...and all still went to jail. Often times, if they'd all just kept their mouths shut, they'd have all been ok.

  7. There is no try. Only do or be substituted. And, yes, a miniscus tear can be recovered from. I tore mine about 5 years ago. After seeing a sports medicine and having a scan done his prognosis was "we could work on it or you could let it heal on its own."

  8. I don't care about the Cowboys (although prefer to see the local team make good) - I root for a non-Texas team and rarely bring it up. But, big news, I am specifically rooting against *you* this weekend because you are terrible (at least in regards to this crap.) Funny how we rarely heard about the inferiority complex here for years until America's #1 bad boy of in-game cussing showed up and learned us a lesson or two about sports rootin'? I also blame you for Cougar King.

  9. I'll be sure to let my superiors know that my being assigned to work is frowned upon by UNT athetics' resident unpaid mouthpiece. I'm sure they'll get right on allowing me to show up so that I can ask the tough penetrating questions. Tell me, since you believe that NOBODY should be fired for lack of performance...if DPD decides to let me go because I didn't show up to work, will you pump some sunshine up their asses on my behalf? I know, why don't you suggest to them that I was underperforming because they didn't throw more money at me? You know, a few of them are NT grads. Don't miss your chance to tell them how our sports teams are underperforming because they're not writing checks. Oooor, you could finally come to the realization that a great many people are frustrated...don't give a rat's ass about your browbeating...and will continue to vent on a FAN MESSAGE BOARD, despite your silly protestations. I don't respond to you because I dislike you. I think you're swell. Silly, but swell. I respond because it amuses me to see you perpetually trot out the same company line as if an "S" is gonna magically appear on your chest and you'll get a cookie at the next quarterly meeting (those still happen, right?). You're a caricature, a sadly skewed depiction of a cheerleader chanting to an empty stadium.

  10. It should. I seriously doubt UNT markets its Athletic Dept like these people do. UTSA knows what they are doing as evidenced by their seamless entry into FBS football.

  15. There's some good news/bad news as it pertains to Antoine and TCU. Bad News is Josh Boyce is leaving early for the NFL and S Jaime Byrd is transferring out. So that both pushes a WR up their depth chart and opens up a scholly for Antoine. Good News is Quincy Adoboyejo decommitted from A&M and likes TCU and Tech. If TCU decides to target a WR he would definitely be their priority over Antoine. While TCU is still stacked at WR, they could use a 2013 recruit as a redshirt guy as their WR corps will consist of 5 JRs and 2 Sophs.

  16. I've been in favor of a "draft" of some sort for years. I think all kids should either sign up for military duty as a full time or a reserve, become a police explorer or junior fire fighter, volunteer at a hostpital, join the peace corp, habitiat for humanity, etc. for a couple of years. Some of those options would allow for kids to go to college or join the workforce while they complete their requirement. I think all of us need to learn that we should serve our fellow man.

  18. I'm a North Texas fan, thank you. Which is not exactly a glamorous title. But it's where I CHOSE to go to school. It wasn't a backup plan. It's where my money goes. It's where my heart lies. I find it strange our alleged super fans are posting topic after topic fawning over the Aggies, but hey, maybe that's just the Mean Green in me.

  19. I think their marketing plan is actually very similar to what we should have. We already do a good bit of this and just don't tell everyone about it. I had a marketing internship with UNT Athletics in oh, 2002 I think? Emmitt helped me with my projects and it was awesome. The one big thing that they are doing that I haven't heard of us paralleling (who knows, maybe we are and I just haven't heard) is the partnership with the firm. Paul L--something, the guy who turned our Career Opportunities Center around and helped direct it towards what it now has become, this is the kind of thing he really made a push for us to do. I don't know if he left for something better or got pressured to leave, but he was one of those guys who really passionately believed that North Texas could be the bigger, brighter, better version of ourselves than we had ever been. I think the big key to efficiency behind a plan like this is to have one or two internal marketing people liaise with the firm in order to provide direction as to the overall desired breadth and depth of the plan and then have the firm provide the legwork and details, with payment in the form of revenue sharing so that they are driven to do well and we are not paying anything out-of-pocket if the results are less than was desired.

  20. With so many possible scenarios being discussed, I won't hit every one since a lot of it is a vicious cycle. A couple of things though: 1) If Houston does NOT go to the Big East, Rice is a very wise choice, both for the school and for the conference. 2) Tulsa will be fine regardless. They aren't in that much of a major media market power play, so any conference (other than the B12) that has them will gain marginal new viewership. Regardless of perennial team power, it seems to be a toss-up between them and UTEP as far as regional match-up and television rights go. 3) Many of these points lead only 1 or 2 years ahead. I know some here believe that everything in sports needs to be evaluated on a single-year basis, but if a payout to leave a conference is likely to garner considerably higher revenue sharing over the course of any given number of years (other than one), then it is a rational choice, all other things held equal. 4) If all else is not held equal, then yes, it is important to consider annual in-state or close regional match-ups...but similar to the "Rice vs. Houston to the Big East" point, these need to be evaluated both case-by-case and as a whole. Having any given two or three teams be a part of each series of rivalries can be good or bad depending upon the combination, so both the number of schools and the combination of which schools provides a considerable number of variables, of which there is not necessarily only one perfect answer, so the key is to not press for one specific combination of match-ups, but rather any combination that would provide nearly equal benefits to one's favorite choice combination.

  23. This conference could hire a very small staff, just two or three, and fill in with contractors to own the network themselves. Plan on one "Game of the week" during football season and two or three a week during basketball season. They can rent a truck at a nice rate for an annual contract and get an annual rate on sattlite time as well. The conference can split the ads with the local stations and divide the profits with the conference members. Maybe even have an internet feed available trough someone like Amazon Video serices since the over the air broadcast will cover the production costs. Yes, the confernce takes more of the risk but it should then get more of the reward for games that sell well. Never happen happen though. It makes too much sense.

  27. For every single right wing nut in America's universities, there are at least a hundred on the left wing coming up with even crazier junk--e.g., Dana Cloud, Ward Churchill, Jose Angel Gutierrez--most of whom we'll never hear of, because people rarely pay attention when a professor is a nut, as long as he is a left-wing nut. But yes, this guy is a nut.

  28. Cameron Echols Luper (WR/DB) just decommitted from A&M as well. Interested in TCU and Tech just like Adoboyejo. Those two decommitts could be big for UNT to get Antoine.

  29. Jim, I'm delighted that you got your shot. You still have to avoid crowds of people for two weeks, which is the how long it takes the vaccine to get into your system. In light of the business that you're in, that could pose a problem.

  32. Taking it all a step further. The old Mountain States Conference produced current MWC members Colorado State, Utah State, Wyoming and New Mexico. Other members were BYU, Utah, Colorado, Denver and Montana. Basically the core is the old Mountain States minus two that moved to the bigs, an indy, one that dumped football and one that went down a level in football.

  33. UALR owns a 16-9 record against us. So, they win about 2 thirds of the time. Actually, that's better than I remembered it being. I think at one point they'd won nearly 80% of the times we played.

  41. Revamp the offense and defense??? Hahahaha I guess that means we or going to have an organized plan for either? Both? Only took you half a season to figure this out, coach. Cue the apologist who will proclaim "he didn't have his players, they were hurt" at the end of the season, coincidently ignoring what happened before tge injuries. And someone needs to ask, is the mass confusion (or whatever occurs) in practice the reason for all of these injuries?

  42. One good reason to recruit Texas high school talent is because the scholarship of a Texas resident is cheaper. My understanding is that out of state recruits, even those on scholarship, must pay out of state tuition. To say nothing of the fact that a Texas athlete is more likely to bring his Texas friends and family to watch him play.

  43. And I'm going to tell them about our 2 playoff wins in 11 years and their 1 in 16 years. And the fact they haven't won a Super Bowl during our existence.

  44. I have three problems with that Harry. Alabama is so strong at all positions that they can load up on one without another position suffering. We can't. We have to recruit on the basis of need. We're not getting the high three and up players so we have to cover our weaknesses with the best players available. Secondly, if we happened to load up on the highly regarded players at a position, who sits and how do you keep the deep backups happy? You don't recruit good players to sit on your bench when you have had a losing record for eight years. Our forte, if we have one, is that we can promise players that they'll play early and mean it. My third problem is that we will likely lose Antoine because we are recruiting him at cornerback. His highlight videos feature an offensive player; not a defensive player. TCU has taken no receivers so far this year and only one last year. It's time they started filling in. Even though it's TCU we might have won the recruiting battle if he thinks that he will play early at North Texas vs. sitting a year or two at Texas Christian.

  46. That's one of the strangest articles I've ever read because it's all over the place. Is it about a concern that we have to rely too much on military families to replenish our supply of manpower? Is it about a concern that servicemen who grow up in a military family learn to simply exist to wage war and kill people and have little hope of ever returning to civilian life after their service period is over? Or is it about a concern that the remainder of our civilian population doesn't fully appreciate the sacrifices our servicemen make to keep us safe, leaving those who have sacrificed to ponder and regret their service in the first place?
