  1. Perhaps. But this: "Arthur leave the team to adventure himself in college basketball" is a fantastic line. Now if you'll excuse me; I'm going to adventure myself in some Bushmills.

  5. It took literally 2 hours to put a poster up in 30+ businesses. Only two establishments told us "no"....most gave a resounding yes. Talked to three differen people who seemed swayed to come to games this season because we talked to them face to face. Not on payroll at NT, yet the first people to walk through the door to ask if we could hang a schedule up.

  6. If you think that the NCAA should and will shut down the Football Program because of this horrible thing that occurred. You are wrong for two reasons: 1. The NCAA Stands for - National Collegiate Athletic Association. This means that it governs and penalizes on the basis of Collegiate ATHLETIC rules. The NCAA DOES NOT investigate or penalize CRIMINAL ACTS. What happened at PSU is a CRIMINAL ACT and is being handled as such by DA’s and Grand Juries etc. People say (here and elsewhere): “SMU's football program received the so-called death penalty decades ago for sports-related improprieties. This is worse. Far worse.” And yes, that is correct. They received the death penalty for SPORTS-RELATED-IMPROPRIETIES (multiple offenders at that...and like it or not this would be a first offense). This is WHY they received the death penalty. The NCAA can only hand out any penalty for SPORTS-RELATED-IMPROPRIETIES. Whether you, myself or anyone else likes it or not, they cannot hand out the death penalty for criminal activity. Take for example Baylor and their basketball program a few years ago. The NCAA gave penalties for SPORTS-RELATED-IMPROPRIETIES that were found amongst the investigation of a murdered basketball player. They DID NOT give penalties for the MURDER (Criminal Act). In this case the NCAA could (if found...though I have seen nothing) give penalties for SPORTS-RELATED-IMPROPRIETIES that were found in amongst the investigation of CHILD ABUSE (Criminal Act). But they WON’T and CAN’T give penalties for CRIMINAL OFFENSES. 2. The second reason that they won’t and can’t give any penalties is their Statute of Limitations. “NCAA 32.6.3 Statute of Limitations: Allegations included in a notice of allegations shall be limited to possible violations occurring not earlier than four years before the date the notice of inquiry is forwarded to the institution or the date the institution notifies (or, if earlier, should have notified) the enforcement staff of its inquiries into the matter.” Therefore, whatever investigation and violations that the NCAA finds would have to be from December of 2007 and forward. We're talking about stuff from well beyond that time frame right now.

  13. ...are we the most honorable program? We joke plenty here about Todd Dodge. I was against his hiring at the outset because he lacked college coaching experience, and he hired an entire coaching staff who lacked college coaching experience. From a pure football standpoint, it was terribly shortsighted. But, let me say this: as I go about town in my Mean Green Nike hat purchase last summer, I can say that I'm proud even of those Dodge years now. Todd Dodge, as bad as his product was on the field, certainly did the right things off the field. Many of us - all of us - want badly for North Texas to be a winning program. Thankfully, however, we haven't had leaders and coaches wanting it so badly that the lives of innocents were scarred. "Winning With Honor" was nothing but a lie at Penn State. We haven't won much, but I'm proud of our program. I'm proud that we are clean. Someday, we'll win again. And, I hope that when those days return again, we will truly be doing what Penn State pretended to do, win with honor. I'm sorry for not being a better supporter during the Todd Dodge years. With the benefit of hindsight, it is always, always, always about more than winning. And, all joking aside, I hope that everyone who played under Todd Dodge, despite their few on the field successes, become those better husbands and fathers he sought to teach them to be. Knowing what I know now, give me the Todd Dodges of the world as the football coach of my alma mater rather than the Joe Paternos. If Todd Dodge ever is crazy enough to read college football message boards, this is for him : Coach, I'm sorry for not supporting you while you were here. I was a horse's ass. Even though the on field results we not always the best, you were doing the the right things behind the scenes. That was more important. And...thanks again for answering my mayo/mustard hamburger question in the chat. Love, Fake Lonnie P.S. - And, Rick, if you're reading, I still say people will stop calling us North Texas State if we go with a UNT logo. Sleep on it.

  15. With everyone taking family outings and vacations this time of year, I thought I'd share a child safety tip I came across. When you go out with your kid(s), take a moment to take a quick photo of them on your phone before you leave. That way you can have an accurate, up to date photo of how they look and what they are wearing that day. It can save precious seconds if the unthinkable happens. The photo can be quickly shared with all officers and authorities searching for the child.

  16. I don't buy that PSU would have lost any competitive advantage by reporting Sandusky back in 1998 or 2001 when allegations first starting popping up. Here's how things might have gone down: Allegations surface regarding Sandusky's sexual contact with minors. Case is turned over to police for criminal investigation. Sandusky suspended (likely with pay) pending the results of the police investigation. Sandusky barred from stepping foot on campus and participating in any university events. Assuming there is enough evidence, an arrest is made. Sandusky fired with cause for conduct unbecoming of the university. Press Release by the university outlining the results of the investigation and that Sandusky has been fired. I don't see how doing the right thing back in 1998 or 2001 would have caused Penn State to lose a competitive advantage at all. If anything, it would have made the university come out smelling like a rose and absolving it of future liabilities since they reported the allegations to the proper authorities as soon as they became aware of them. Today they have to defend why they covered up the whole mess. Despite this, North Texas still lost a recruit to PSU so I'd say they haven't lost much of a competitive advantage.

  18. now i just need to figure out how to sync that with the dance team's "muppet head shake" bit that my wife loves to watch so much during that song. for those of you that may be confused with what that is, just place your right ear on your right shoulder then quickly move your head so that your left ear is on your left shoulder while your long hair flys around like a muppet. do this repeatedly while matching your rythym with the chorus.

  20. I think a lot of you are looking at his stats and comparing to US high school stats. His regular team not the international team, average age was 26 and there is no comparison even with the best US high schools. One service has his skill level rating as low but his potential high. I don't think Benford would be interested if he didn't think he had a high ceiling. A lot of people maybe are thinking Barnett, Howerton and Knox but my guess is none of them would be remotely close to playing on a Brazil national team. NT has signed a lot of 6'10 projects because the NT's of the world don't get big men that are play ready. I don't think that Coleman and Casimiro are sure things either but I believe they have much more potential than the ones named.

  21. Just seems ironic that you jumped downed someone's throat for calling a primarly back up player on a 2 - 8 team a " project " and then turn around and do it on someone who was good enough to make the Brazilian national team. International players play a different style of game , they aren't going to wow you with any numbers. We got a big guy who is going to play tough defense. He's from Brazil , so you know he's physical. I don't think he was brought in here to score 20 + points a game for us They could all be projects or they could all turn out to be all conference. We don't know , our coaches don't know. That's just the way recruiting go. To already say this is a wasted ship is a bit of a knee jerk

  26. I got NCAA Football 13 in the mail today. I haven't played since really NCAA 13 2004 about five years ago. Apogee Stadium looks terrific but still no UNT fight song. I played one quick exhibition game and was matched up with Arkansas State. UNT jumped out in front 12-0 (took me awhile to figure out how to kick). ASU got a touchdown but we came back with a field goal right before the half to make it 15-7 at the half. The third quarter was scoreless but half way through the fourth we kicked our second field goal to make it 18-7. With about three minutes left ASU got a short touchdown run but missed fired on the try for two, 18-13. We took over and got one first down but had to punt, pinning ASU inside their 20. However, two big plays and they were at the UNT 40. Then we had the play of the game with under a minute left. ASU completed a long pass down the middle of the field but the receiver was stripped of the ball inside the five yard. We then kneeled once to run out the clock. Final: UNT 18, ASU 13. Now that I've got to learn how to actually play this game. The real point of this thread is this: Apogee Stadium looks terrific (complete with wind turbines) but still no UNT fight song.

  27. I've decided that the Penn State Athletic department needs it's own song, separate from the University's alma mater and fight song. And so (from one of my favorite movies "Paint Your Wagon").....here it is! Please substitute the words "Penn State City" for "No Name City"

  32. The crux of the issue on whether or not the NCAA can and will respond: "Milstein believes the NCAA can and should punish Penn State University because he considers Sandusky’s actions and the alleged cover-up directly related to the prestige and profitability of Penn State football. Jackson refutes that possibility because — no matter the involvement of athletic department employees — an NCAA punishment is possible only if an NCAA violation occurs." This will certainly be interesting to follow. Personally, I think the NCAA desperately needs to find a way to respond. The last year has produced one black-eye after another. The perception is exactly as Harry stated above (QFT), "Success is now what you can get away with and how much money you can stash out of reach of the authorities before you get caught."

  33. http://www.scribd.com/doc/99901850/REPORT-FINAL-071212-1#download Full report - 267 pages - on scribd. Don't have time to read it, but just skimming it I don't see how Penn State escape without major sanctions. Full sections of Penn State continuing to give Sandusky access to the footbal facilities and allowing to hold camps there even after the 1998 and 2001 investigations. This was a cover up aided by the athletic department and by the many in the administration. It's shameful that so many grown men could allow it. How could any of them even stand to be in the same room with a guy accused of child molestion, much less continue to alow him to have access to kids with their full blessing on their campus using their athletic facilities? It's gross. Joe Paterno is a fraud. Give me the payment-under-the-table scandals of the 80s over this stuff. This is just horrible. I hope Penn State is given a Death Penalty equal to or greater than that given to SMU in the 80s. Raping kids is worse than giving cash and cars to Eric Dickerson and his pals.

  34. Have any of you picked up the 2012 Football Poster yet? (I'm not talking about the half sized teaser poster.) I'm curious if the poster has all the game times on it. meangreensports.com only has 3 game times posted. I'm wanting to start booking for some watching parties and possibly a road trip or two.

  35. If I'm planning this, I hold a midnight madness event in the Snake Pit and make the event student organization oriented Build some sort of competition between for the campus organizations. Provide each organization a limited number of "tickets" to participate in the contest with additional tickets available at the door on a "first come first serve" basis only. Ideally, the organizations will exhaust their limited number of tickets and then encourage camping out for the additional space to ensure they're well represented in the Pit. If it ends up being a student-only event, GREAT! Get them on board and excited and the rest of the buzz will fall into place.

  37. last years game had the ability to add custom sounds/music (including fight songs at the appropriate time) and I assume this one will have the same capacity. I'll probably have it before the end of the week but diablo 3 continues to consume all my gaming time. There were a few sites that gave good instructions and links to sound effects for all teams that could be downloaded to the system hard drive on last year's version. adding them to in-game events takes some time and patience but you could really make a true game-day experience. edit... i'm on the 360 version

  42. That's the best thing the BCS was/is good for, matching conference champions from mid-majors (MWC:Boise State, TCU, & Utah; WAC: Boise State & Hawai'i) to compete with champions/at-large teams from AQs. With the new "playoff" system, there'll be no TCU vs. Wisconsin in the Rose Bowl, Boise Stae vs. Oklahoma in the Fiesta Bowl or Utah vs. Alabama in the Sugar Bowl (all of which the mid-major team they faced). Now when those tie-in teams like the Pac-12 or Big Ten have their conference champions in the 4-team playoff, the next best team in the conference standing will replace them instead of an at-large slot for a mid-major conference champion (if they qualified). If there's an undefeated team from the Big East, C-USA, MAC, or Sun Belt, it'll be hard for the selection committee to take that 12-0/13-0 team over a 10-2 SEC team. There's no room for Cinderellas in FBS football.

  45. What makes me want to quit donating? Is threads like this. Who gives a flying f-ck. This program needs money and more fans. Neither of which hinge on whether fans can attend practice. I read threads like this and think to myself maybe it is time to quit throwing good money after bad. We will always be small time. Unfortunately for me I have some sort of addiction to the hope of better days for the Mean Green. So I keep sending out the checks. On a side note. My wife and her entire family attended Ohio State. My father in law and I give about the same amount of money to our respective universities. He gets a bumper sticker and the right to buy 4 nose bleed seats on the 50 yard line. That's it! What have I recieved? Well I get the right and do buy four club level seats that cost less than his nosebleed seats at the horseshoe. I have attended multiple events in Houston for donors and prospective donors. I have had dinner with the university president. I have had drinks with representatives from the athletic department in Houston. Not to mention the usual gifts from umbrellas to grill sets and so on. As I said before. I don't donate that much! Especially when compared with major universities. Yet here we are discussing the 5 fans that want to see a practice and at what giving level that should be. Instead let's discuss how being a Mean Green fan and donor is the best deal in college sports and according to the attendance and donor levels no one seems to give a crap. I could care less about open or closed practices. What I do care about is that at some point we either hit critical mass or people get tired of trying. Ok that turned into a rant, sorry. Dear God please let this be a winning season This post has been promoted to an article
