1. FYI, I was heading north on 35W this afternoon. Just as I was leaving the N. Fort Worth area I passed a billboard that said, "Estimated time 21 - 24 minutes until Alliance." I think the city knows something.

  2. Why do we want to go to CUSA?? Because the teams are well-known and as a result it is perceived as a better conference. Diluting that down with teams like UTSA, UTA, FIU, ULL, UNC-Charlotte and other "hyphenated universities" will just turn C-USA into Sun Belt v.2.0. I hope that CUSA and MWC kill the WAC and carefully selects a couple of Sun Belt teams like UNT and MTSU to join. Louisiana Tech, Army, UNT, and MTSU to CUSA. Utah State, Idaho, New Mexico State, and San Jose State to MWC. We don't need a single FCS team.

  4. So we are headed to the C*USA? Harry We have a new basket ball coach? Are we happy with him? Tasty How did the the recruiting class turn out? TFLF I want to thank UNT90 for keeping me up to date on several things!

  5. This is from a Marquette fan who just became a UNT fan. Coach Benford and Coach Lundy are an amazing foundation to continue to build on the success of your program. What a wealth of knowledge in these two coaches. Keep in mind that even with his background Lundy is 7 years younger than Coach Benford. If this doesn't start an incredible run for UNT basketball I will be very surprised. Great hires!

  6.

DENTON, Texas - North Texas women's basketball coach Mike Petersen has made his first signings as the Mean Green has inked Kiara Davis and Alexis Hyder to Letters of Intent. Davis is a 5-10 guard from North Crowley High School while Hyder is a 5-11 forward out of Austin LBJ High School.

"We are very happy that both Kiara and Alexis have joined the Mean Green Women's basketball family," said Petersen. "They are both outstanding student athletes who will be important contributors to the growth of our program."

Hyder, one of the most prolific scorers in the state, averaged over 35 points a game this season in district play and scored a school record 61 points against Lanier. She was named to the Austin American-Statesman's All-Central Texas girls basketball team as a first-team selection for three straight seasons.

Read more: http://www.meangreensports.com/ViewArticle.dbml?DB_OEM_ID=1800&ATCLID=205420321

Click here to view the article

  7. The big question is whether CUSA and the MWC are working together with good intentions. I have heard Thompson is not to be trusted. I have said all along this thing might not end up exactly as we had hoped. I can see us in CUSA with no UTEP or Tulsa. I can also see us ending up in the MWC. Man, this stuff is crazy. I can't blame Tulsa fans for not being happy. We just need about 5 years with these guys in a conference to show them we are actually a better replacement than SMU was as a conference partner. Our BB program is light years better and the pieces are in place to finally getting the FB prgram up to speed. In their time in CUSA, SMU was a sub par (ok I'll say it, downright crappy) FB and BB partner. Only in the last few years did they turn it around in FB. We need to be positioning ourselves for the next "airport meeting" and I think we are. I think the Tulsa relationship is very, very important.

  8. Yeah, my dad was a teacher for 30+ years. He was up at 5, worked 10 hour days at school, was generally working another 2-3 hours on paperwork each night, and worked probably half of every Sunday on lesson plans, grading, creating assignments, etc. There were also a lot of school-related events that were "optional". I think if you're a crappy teacher, then, yeah, it's a pretty cushy gig. You get summers and holidays off for the most part. But they don't make any money, and I think people that take the job of education lightly ought to be euthanized and parted out for their organs. It's a generally thankless job, and it's not one I'd want. It's pay is not commensurate with hours worked or the difficulties it presents. Also, they don't get entire summers off. Usually a couple of weeks after the school year, they're still working. Then there will be a couple of inservices during the summer. Then they start working a few weeks before the school year, which starts in mid-August. Any teacher who says it's easy was simply just a terrible teacher who didn't do their job. I also know crappy cops and crappy lawyers and crappy doctors who barely do the minimum for theirs as well. Doesn't mean that's the standard.

  9. That's the benefit of UTEP moving to the MWC, it guarantees enough slots in CUSA for UNT and LA Tech.
    3 points
  10. I prefer Louisiana Tech over UTEP. And y'all carrying on about UTSA and TS: there is not enough talent to support that many D1 schools in this one area of the country. Those two need to die off. We should do everything possible to make it happen, because NT is the one that will get hurt the worst by the competition in recruiting. Stop mentioning them. And if you are their supporter pretending on here, you can go to Conference*HELL. Those are crappy schools by comparison and we should not be associated with them. Sure Rice can say the same about us, and they probably do so.

  12. Two things about that hire. 1) There was no way in hell the president at that time was going to let the football coach have a higher salary than the president. 2) When you've got a checkbook with cobwebs and dust in it, you hire out of high school. I don't think Rick set out to hire such a buffoon, nor do I think he makes that mistake again. As for Shanice Stephens, the other gaffe, I've got to say that I was impressed as hell the first time I met her after the girls came from behind to beat Valparaiso. It was all down hill from there, so I'm giving Rick a mulligan on that one. In spite of people's best efforts to prove that Rick is either incompetent or uncaring towards UNT, I would argue that he is quite the contrary to both, and I'm glad he's here in Denton.

  14. I loved the hire of Coach Dan. I didn't know much about him, but it took 5 minutes at his official Press Conference....and then I kneww we had someone special! I also loved Johnnie Jones. He pulled this program up to a great level, and I am proud he got the job that he coveted. He will be great! And, I also want thank all you loyal gomeangreen.com gang who keeps us up to date with tweets, blogs, rumors and the such. Every night I check in with great anticipation of breaking news, new recruits, and exciting updates. Seriously, thanks so much! Did you ever believe a basketball coach would leave Wake Forest for UNT? It appears we are closing in on a Men's Coach who will keep the train rolling! A new Conference affliation looks bright! Our other sports are having incredible years....from Women's Tennis to Golf! We have bitched at each other for years: including me! We were taking pot shots at other GoMeanGreen members, because we have an uncanny love for our University...and wanted the BEST! We have lots of desire. We know our University's potential is limitless! All the years of frustration and lack of facilities and lack of money are finally behind us! NOW: It's time for the Mean Green Nation! I'm proud to stand with each of you....'cause UNT is not the sleepy ole campus North of Dallas anymore! Thanks RV and the Staff for one GRAND job! For the students, Alums, fans and Administration thanks for believing "our time would time". I got a funny feeling...our time is about to be NOW!!! God Bless the Mean Green Nation!!!!

  15. This semester's NT Daily isn't even good enough to follow Brett Vito around with a can of Diet Coke.

  16. No, in fact, they don't. And screw you, douche. Tired of the NTDaily making us looking like a fool in regional media. We already get enough crap without the NTDaily making three HUGE mistakes in a week. One of which would get you fired.

  17. Dear DL, Needed depth in the secondary - signed 5, 1 JUCO, 4 preps. Happy that McCarney didn't panic and oversign JUCO DBs. 2011 OL was surprisingly decent, so it wasn't a glaring need anymore. But, we still picked up one 3-star player there. Landed a couple of 3-star WRs, a position where we were thin last year. Hopefully, Chaz Sampson emerges enough to be able to redshirt one of them. Needed DL help, specifically at DT - only signed one DT with any real size. Signed a second one that weighs in at 240. I'm still worried about the DT position; although we do have some experience there for 2012. Got 3 DEs. Would have rather seen 3 DTs and 2 DEs instead of the other way around; but, you get what you get...and, hope to hell McCarney knows what he's doing. Other than that, I think we filled in enough to get some depth via redshirting. Unless they are just studs in August, I'm not sure why we wouldn't redshirt all 4 LBs we signed. We signed a pair of RBs who should both be able to redshirt. Class by position: DBs - 5 LBs - 4 DEs - 3 OLs - 3 DTs - 2 RBs - 2 WRs - 2 With only Lance gone on offense (yes, I know a big, big "only" considering....), the offense wasn't much of a concern. Glad to see 14 of the 21 signees on the defensive side of the ball; and, best of all, only one of them JUCO! Now, we just wait to see which ones actually make their grades/test scores. As thin as the secondary is, it'll be a hit if one or two of those don't qualify.

  20. The grass is always greener somewhere else. Tulsa has never been in a western conference, there are a lot of issues that these fans are not mentioning; less national coverage, more travel and cost, and no close rivals. It may make some sense for football but very little when you start sending volleyball and softball teams to Wyoming and Nevada. The same reasons I don't want NT in the MWC. Obviously, if more regional teams were in the MWC, it would be more appealing. Currently, there is not that much difference in the two leagues in football strength but there wouldn't be a game that local NT fans could reasonably drive to in the MWC. We thank of NT being an outer team in the Belt, NT closest rival would likely be UTEP and Colorado State. Drives to Tulsa, Tulane, Rice and probably La Tech are relatively easy in comparison. edit:: They were in the WAC, but with a lot of regional teams at that time, in fact more than currently exist in CUSA

  21. I said either with the help or on the backs of others...while I don't believe most have, if you believe that no one has knowingly exploited others for their own benefit you're remarkably naive. Again...the concept of the "self-made" anybody is fallacy. Everyone had the resource of others around them in some capacity or another. This goes to the multi-millionare corporate type, the hard-working small business person, the middle-management grinder... Hell, I'm a multi-thousandaire who has worked for 5+ years for a business of six individuals and is starting a non-profit organization...I think that qualifies me as hard-working...I save fairly well...yet I recognize that despite how hard I work as an individual that none of my successes are "self-made" but are in fact tied back to my community, those who have helped me along the way and society as a whole. I owe in part back to society...even for my very modest gains.

  22. There are ways to waive a fee without waiving it. Since there is likely going to be a scheduling alliance and/or TV contract alliance, an one time offsetting amount of money could be allocated to the MWC which they pay to UTEP to cover the exit fees. Problem solved and everyone is happy.

  23. You would think that as many schools as are mentioned in the future Alliance, the chances for at least two at large bids might not be out of the question.

  25. Hi guys, just wanted to give you some thoughts on your new HC, Tony Benford. First of all, let me say that I think this is a fantastic hire. Benford has been ready for this for the past couple years and was Buzz's top assistant at Marquette. He's a great recruiter and has helped turn Marquette into a recruiting force on a nationwide stage, drawing top-100 recruits from Texas (Erik Williams), California (Juan Anderson), Chicago (Steve Taylor), Milwaukee (Duane Wilson), as well as last year's Big East Player of the Year Jae Crowder from Georgia. Seeing that it looks like Mitchell will be staying, it's safe to say Benford has some respect down there already. Also, I'm really hoping Coach Benford extends an offer to Aaron Durley. He originally signed a LOI with Marquette, but after a disappointing senior season, MU told Durley that they would prefer he go to prep school because if he came here, he likely wouldn't play until his junior year because fellow Fort Bend Bush alum Chris Otule will be staying for a sixth season, putting Durley 3rd on the center depth chart behind CO and Davante Gardner. Durley is a fantastic kid and a good athlete that needs some time to develop into a D1-level player, and I think Benford could get a lot out of him. Either way, rest assured that with the hire of Benford, you gained a lot of fans up in Milwaukee. While we're sad to see TB go, we know this was an opportunity he deserved and have every hope and confidence that he can succeed down there. I guarantee I'll be cheering for the Mean Green against everyone other than Marquette. Go Mean Green!

  26. The consensus seems to be that CUSA is weaker (true) and that the MWC is much stronger than the realigned Conference USA (false). Based on all-time football rankings the two leagues are about the same but on just last year's rankings CUSA averages 67 while the MWC averages 80. Conference USA is far more populous with much better TV markets. MWC has a distinct advantage in basketball but that's their only advantage. Of course, neither conference can lose the caliber of teams that they did and expect to remain as strong but there is a nucleus of good teams to keep both conferences capable of building back to their former strength. These figures are based on ten team conferences with UTEP and Utah State added in the west and North Texas, FIU and Louisiana added in the east.

  42. Im perfeckt. Seriously, one of the ways you learn from your mistakes (and laziness) is to be corrected. If the writer does read this board (highly doubtful), I bet this is a miostake he/she doesn't make again. The writer is obviously not a sports fan, which is fine, but when writing about something you are unfamiliar with, you should take extra time to make sure what you write doesn't contain very basic errors. Or we could just give this kid a participation award.

  43. Pac-12, Big 10 (12?), SEC, wildcard from Big XII/ACC. Brother, it means exactly four megaconferences winners going to a playoff. Think about it. Boise freaking State, San Diego freaking State, and Southern Freaking Methodist are going to what were "BCS" conferences. We can't have those schools winning big, now can we?

  47. No doubt Soccer is NT's most successful and consistent program. However, football and basketball are always going to overshadow the other sports. With both tennis and mens golf championships occuring in the last week, they are going to be highlighted at this time. I don't think that is a snub it is just a question of timing.
