  1. Mitchell wasn't the problem last year. The problem was the expectations of the faithful. I know that alot of you folks like to blame the coach for last year but a great player will win you some games in spite of the coach and that didn't happen. Mitchell needed another year in school and I'm not sure that would have been enough. Lets hope that Mitchell can improve and have a good career in the NBA or overseas.
  2. I have just finished reading all the posts regarding Mitchell and there seemed to be one reoccuring theme. Mitchell was really good but Coach Benford didn't bring out the best in him. I hope that Mitchell makes it big in Detroit but that would surprise me. If for some reason Mitchell is unsuccessful in the NBA I wonder if all the Benford haters on here will find a way to continue to bash their coach? These NBA front offices know what these player are all about and draft accordingly regardless of the success or failure of the teams that player comes from. You folks need to wish the best for both Mitchell and Benford which for UNT fans seems to me to be a win-win situation.
  3. I hope Mitchell does great, becomes all pro,an all star every season but to admit that you didn't give your best to your school, your coach, your teammates, and most importantely yourself is way beyond unacceptable. Now, 9 posts or 9000 posts has nothing to do with the topic nor my view of what was said in the interview. Tony Benford has coached 3 1st round draft picks over the last 3 years and was a 2nd round pick himself, so from my way of thinking that makes him far more credible than me or anyone else who posts on this board. If Coach Benford is not successful at UNT during the life of his contract then find another coach. My guess is that he will be successful. Only time will tell. Have a great day.
  4. Tony Mitchell, great athlete, huge upside, no heart, no motor, no character. Mailed in a season! Would not want him on my team.
  5. Greetings from cold Wisconsin. Let me fill you in on Coach Lundy, he is not going to tell you something that is not true. The only reason that coach would even entertain a D2 job would be to get closer to his sons. I'm certain that the job was offered and after careful thought Coach decided that UNT was the place for him. From my point of view UNT is very lucky to have this coach at this time.
  6. Lehigh favored by 9. UNT players must make shots which seems to be an issue.
  7. I was at the game at JPJ arena. The Mean Green dug a whole in the 1st half but played very well in the 2nd half . They just couldn't get past the 9 and 11 point margin. This team is a work in progress and will get better during the season. Tony Benford is a very good coach and will keep improving this team. The team has some very good parts that need to jell as a unit and that will take some time. The best thing about that is the season is a marathon and not a sprint. I don't understand the x and o's stuff because Benford and his staff have forgotten more about basketball than most people have ever known. I don't care who you are or how good you think you are, because for the most part no team plays an ACC team on their home court and comes away feeling good about themselves. The Mean Green had a great 2nd half effort and believe me caused some nervousness in the UVA faithfull. Keep your spirits up folks, this is a good team.
  8. Is this the place where morons meet to console each other and demonstrate their awesome intelligence ?
  9. None of the posters have mentioned Bart Lundy. From what I read on his bio it indicates that he has had great success and from what I hear from friends in Milwaukee what he did at Marquette was pretty good.dare good . Lundy has more wins as a head coach than anyone on staff and has been to the NCAA tourney, on one level or another, 7 times.
  10. I just joined this board with the hiring of Tony Benford and I really don't understand why any UNT supporter would care what Larry Brown does. There are two seperate topics devoted to Brown and SMU. Well, who cares !
  11. This is from a Marquette fan who just became a UNT fan. Coach Benford and Coach Lundy are an amazing foundation to continue to build on the success of your program. What a wealth of knowledge in these two coaches. Keep in mind that even with his background Lundy is 7 years younger than Coach Benford. If this doesn't start an incredible run for UNT basketball I will be very surprised. Great hires!
