So as a few of you know, and most of you don't, I'm a musician of the singer-songwriter variety. I released my very first album on January 18th, which is titled "Old Denton Roads", a nod to some of the best times of my life and the source of several songs on the album. The songs are alt-country, country, and kind-of-not country. So if you like any of that, you might like it. (If you don't like it, don't tell me... I have a fragile ego) OMG how is this football-related? Okay, chill; I'm getting to that. As I was saying, I loved Denton and my time at UNT. So naturally, when I finished the album I wanted to think of a way to give back. Since I spend a good amount of my internet free-time on this fabulous resource we know as GMG, I figured this would be a solid way to realize that ambition. Andrew Smith was QB during my last years at UNT. It was a profound loss by the entire Mean Green community, as well as many families, friends, and his home town. I'd love to donate to this worthy cause, but I'm a cliche, broke, wandering musician. What I can do is donate my craft. I'll donate EVERY cent I make from downloads from CD Baby for the rest of this month. CD Baby offers me a rate of 70 cents on each dollar sold through their website- the highest of the online retailers. It also has the quickest turnaround for payment. So downloading an album ($10) results in a $7 donation to the Andrew Smith Memorial Fund. To download go to http://www.cdbaby.co...rantleecroucher I'll provide complete transparency to the board throughout the process. The sale will commence today and run through April 30. Thanks for your time, support of local independent music, UNT Athletics, and GMG! -Brant '038 points

I think I'll make it if you can stand a UH fan there. Wife is out of town this weekend and I'm starving for anything college football. I might just adopt UNT as my second school and give them some of the local support they deserve.4 points

If you watch all 162 games, then you're listening to the announcers for at least 405 hours during that stretch. That's almost 17 days of "There you go boys!"2 points

After transferring from the University of Pittsburgh, the 6-foot-8, 245-pound sophomore forward enrolled for his sophomore year at Midland College. Miller is originally from Nassau, Bahamas, and played high school ball at St. Pius X in Houston. He has been solid for the Midland (26-3, 12-1 in WJCAC) this season, starting in 24 of 29 games and averaging 8.3 points and 5 rebounds a contest.2 points

Green P1, don't know you but from reading your postings over a period of time I gather you are not having a particularly enjoyable "Mean Green Life". Too bad - in our recent history (by using that terminology I am referring to the last 10 years or so although I personally go back 41 years with this university) we have come a long way, baby!2 points

My TV will now be muted the rest of the Rangers season. I've never heard such horrific play-by-play for a MAJOR LEAGUE team. I always loved Lewin and my dream broadcast crew would have been him and Razor in a booth together (don't care which sport). Sadly, Lewin just isn't translating to radio for me We are incredibly fortunate to have someone as talented as Hank... thanks for all that you do in the booth and your extra-curricular work around town. When I was little, one of my favorite books was "Mike Mulligan and his Steam Shovel." Mike and his steam shovel were known far and wide as the best at digging. So, upon this occasion, they were digging the basement for a big building and they were up against a deadline. So Mike and his steam shovel dug, and dug and dug and the basement was finished and the building completed on time. And under budget (I made that part up). But when the smoke cleared, Mike and the Steam Shovel was stuck in the basement with no was to get out. Sooooo...the steam shovel bucket was removed and the steam shovel's boiler used to heat the building. Happy ending. So my question to you is, how are those 6 or 8 big earth moving machines going to get out of the playing area ? Will they be air lifted out ? Be buried ? Is there need for a boiler in the middle of a football field ? I've looked around the sides of the playing surface and I don't see how these big machines get out. Dissambled ? Yesterday there was a pic from the webcam that was snapped just as one of the earth movers was entering the field area through the tunnel opening. Looked like a relatively tight fit, but a fit nonetheless.1 point

I saw some signs from Knox this year, he may not get a ton of minutes but I think he can be a guy that can give a solid 10-15 minutes a game. If he can make more improvement, he could be someone who has value. I also hate the fact that kids that work hard and maybe don't have the talent can have their scholarships taken away. For once I would like to see the star that doesn't work hard, doesn't do well in the classroom, and breaks the law have their scholarship taken away.1 point

this is what I do...more wondering about picture quality comparison. It's hard to get an HD quality (720 or 1080) pic doing this, though....is it any better on the x360?1 point

And what's sad is that the turf that is down there now is so much better. That being said we played a bowl game on the newer turf a few years ago and I got my foot caught two different times and tripped, in regular shoes.1 point

Don't see any comparison to Tramiel. More in the mold of Shorter; with a better outside shot. Very powerful down low despite his 6-4 height. A better comparison might be a smaller David Miller, (who played some center at 6-5) Rich Young & Shorter. Would be a fan favorite with his intensity and hustle. Relentless on defense. If the choices are between Miller and Payne, give me Roger Franklin!1 point

I work at Denton Country Club. Today after I got off work, I went out and played. Well from 5 teebox, you have a pretty nice view of the wingzone. I thought that was pretty neat.1 point

Yes, it is private only to play, but I believe the memberships are pretty cheap if you're interested and can play enough to justify spending the money. It's a great course. If I had a camera that was worth a damn, I'd take a picture. All I have is my iPhone. I'll take one tomorrow and see if it's worth posting.1 point

When you're a graduate of one of (at least) 347 schools across the country... Pro basketball is "better" than college basketball in the same way that watching porn is better than having sex.1 point

I played HS soccer and football on that field 3-4 times a yr from 94-97. It was brutal, literally chewed your flesh off the bone. I still cringe at the thought of those hard painted endzones that were like conrete.1 point

The Mavs can beat anybody (except the referees) if they play defense and Dirk gets some help. Every game I watch I get less and less interested in the NBA due to the officiating. I think Pro Wrestling is more of a sport at this point.1 point

Daddy Dumpsalot...you weren't satisfied with this year's team performance, REALLY? Based on what this team accomplish with all the injuries. I think you've set the bar really high. I'm grateful this team accomplished what it did under the circumstances.1 point

If we sign him to a 3 year contract we would need to give him an extension after the 2nd year or it would have a negative impact on recruiting. Would we really consider getting rid of JJ within the next 2 years even if this team started to struggle with all of the new players coming in? JJ has already showed that he can put together a consistent winning program at UNT, which few before him have ever done. Certainly there are some risks in signing a 7 year deal, but based on what he has accomplished, I am ok with this.1 point
-
Put yourself in JJ's shoes. You arrived in 2001 to rebuild the Trilli mess, and slowly put together a pretty solid winning program that the entire school can be proud of. You just got finished pulling in quite possibly the best recruiting class this school has seen (including Mitchell). Your peers have less to show for their products than you do and are making more money than you, and have longer job security. UNT offers you a 3 year deal, which is a shorter term than some of your inferior peers, for $X (x= comparable to your peers pay). Would this indicate to you that the University is looking out for you? I believe I would start getting my resume ready. Or, UNT offers you a 7 year deal for $X. This would indicate to me: "Hey, we believe in you and think you're better than your inferior peers. We want you around for a very long time. And oh, by the way, if you meet X+Y+Z, you'll get even more money!" Business-wise, this makes perfect sense. You must pay to keep your top talent. I would say the same for coach Hedlund. At this point, the probability of JJ getting picked off by a bigger school is much greater than the probability of JJ flopping and the AD needing to buy out his contract.1 point

Yea! Yea! And what about Dr. Phil? Is it too much to ask him to jump on his private jet and come to Denton for a couple of hours? What about Don Henley? What, he puts out a new album every 28 years and all of sudden he's too busy? And the guys who played Robo Cop, what is he doing tomorrow at 1:00? What about Charles "Tex" Watson? He has to be out of prison by now, right? He could coach the defense. This post has been promoted to an article0 points

Which is pretty much the exact opposite of the rest of the country. People don't care or follow college basketball's regular season because a team could lose every single game, but when their conference tourney and get into the Big Dance. The regular season in college basketball quite literally is worthless, which is the reason no one cares about it. UCONN finished the season in NINTH PLACE in the Big East, but still won the national championship. Doesn't seem like their regular season meant much... If college basketball wants to add some relevancy to their season they need to make it to where only the top half of each conference is eligible for the conference tournament.0 points
