The Picture of Concussion

Recommended Posts

I thought it was interesting that the Tulsa World chose this photo to illustrate the problem of concussions in football:

Tulsa's Ja'Terian Douglas is stopped by Zed Evans(1), Jamal Mashall(14) and Fred Scott of North Texas on Nov. 30, 2013. MIKE SIMONS/Tulsa World file

When the NT reserves are still smacking the Tulsa Hurricanes hard. Hope that player wasn't hurt, but love the reserves bringing the pain.

When I was 5, my mom would not let me play with my older brothers in a sandlot football game. So I sat on the sidelines and watched. Sixty minutes later, I was the one in an ambulance on the way to the hospital with a concussion. Spent the next two days there. There is risk in everything we do...even being a spectator on the sidelines. Would have rather played the game.

You had to bring that up. I did say I was sorry.

That photo is too close to call. As far as a direct helmet to helmet hit, Evans' helmet is behind the ballcarrier's helmet.

To close of a call for what? He is being tackled. Nothing illegal about it.

If you want to see an illegal hit here you go. http://www.dentonrc.com/sports/colleges/north-texas-headlines/20120915-football-boutwells-return-could-bolster-unt.ece

or this: http://www.dallasnews.com/incoming/20130921-north-texas-georgia-football_33309827_827001.jpg.ece/BINARY/original/North+Texas+Georgia+Football_33309827_827001.JPG

One was called and one was not.

The rule has also been "clarified" this year. Doesn't matter if the hit is initiated befow the neck if you go helmet to helmet on an unprotected player you are get get the flag. It is also 15 yards from the spot of the foul, not the previous spot as it was last year.
