With all the discussion of Eli and Young, I figured I'd start a thread about some of the actual good music coming out of Denton.

For those familiar with Midlake, front-man Tim Smith is no longer with the band...taking away his wonderful, just woke up from a nap voice. Eric Pulido is now handling lead-vocals...and it seems as though the band has adjusted to their new voice with a more ambient, shoe-gaze sound rather than trying to force Pulido's voice into a Tim Smith mold. I'm digging what I've heard so far...kinda need to divorce yourself from the thought of "I'm listening to Midlake(?)" and approach this new work as though it were from a new band entirely.

Midlake...is that about halfway between Denton and Lake Worth?

In all seriousness...Midlake is really good...at least they were and I am glad CBL says the new version is good as well. have not heard the newer version, so will withhold comment on that until I do, but if they are anything like the original Midlake...good stuff here folks!

Really? Someone is being a toot here I see....

The new track is Tame Impala-esque, I like it. Each of their albums are so different from the others, Trials of Van Occupanther is in my top 10 post 2000 albums so it's going to be hard for them to top it this time. I'm just hoping it's better than the last one.

I've tried listeing to Midlake and just can't get on board, but like meanrob stated, I support them since they are from Denton. My question is why, like in the bolded part above, do people feel the need to put down a band or musical genre they don't like?
