Quick Wednesday practice notes

We seem to have been transported back to the days of winter ball (Darrell Dickey used to have spring practice in February, hence the term Winter Ball, back in the day). But as always, there were a few interesting tidbits to go along with some frozen toes today.

UNT’s defense pretty much dominated a scrimmage at the end of practice until UNT went into red zone and hurry-up drills.

Derek Thompson hit Darnell Smith for touchdown passes that covered 15 and 19 yards, threw another 3-yard touchdown pass and ran another in from 3 yards out. Thompson knocked Marcus Trice out in the process on the run. Trice was down for a few minutes before getting up. Thompson also threw what should have been an interception. Zac Whitfield just flat dropped one. Whitfield is a good corner. UNT has to sit there and wonder just how much better he would be if he could catch the ball more consistently.
