I saw in yesterday's WSJ "Journal Report" section that the winners of the WSJ 2005 Student Achievement Award were listed (page R10). One student from each school is selected and the winner from North Texas is Nicholas Daniel Bazaldua.

In total there are about 500 Universities listed, each with one winner, so this is quite a prestigious award.

I also couldn't help but notice that several schools were not on the list, including Texas, Texas A&M, SMU, U of H, Rice, UTEP and Baylor.

Congrats to Nick.

I think it is a school's departmental decision whether or not to participate, which would account for some schools not listed. Having said that, it IS an honor to be given that award. I congratulate Nick for his fine work.

In 1969, I received the WSJ Student Achievement Award at Pan American College (now UT-Pan American). It would have been even more meaningful if they had thrown in a case or two of Shiner. biggrin.gif

The WSJ is not JUST for academic performance. In addition, there is considered extracurricular activities and service to the school and community. Nick should be considered as a contributor on several fronts...a solid citizen.
