Only 3 D-1A independents left? I thought Army was in C-USA? I thought Navy was in a conference too (can't remember which one).

Notre Dame will be an independent in football forever. Why share TV money with a conference when they can keep it to themselves?

Army left to go independent. They wanted more flexibility in scheduling and a better chance to actually have a winning season. I wish they had stayed though. I loved going to West Point when Southern Miss played there in 2002.

--It might be cheaper for the WAC teams to pay LaTech to leave, it would save a lot on travel money.... Hawaii is a long trip too but it sounds good to recruits to get to play in Hawaii... but Northern Louisiana... naaah, no great attraction. LaTech's bank account is about to take a big hit unless they leave or are encouraged to leave.

---The MAC is the most compact it appears and was even more-so before allowing Temple in.

---It looks like every university on I-35 slid to the east a few miles. Tech is now in Tulia even worse, OU and OSU switched campuses.

---Notre Dame is now the only non-military academy not in a conference... and it will not change as long as they have that NBC contract......but NBC may get tired of them if they don't start winning big again.
