UCONN To the Big 12?

Maybe as a basketball-only school, but not as an all-sports member (as in football too).  They are BAD in football.

They have been pretty bad, but they appear to be improving under Jim Mora, Jr.  If they were actually in the Big XII, who knows what the infusion of dollars and exposure would do for their program?

But I imagine every UConn sport other than football would rather stay in the Big East.

If this happens, the smart thing for UNT to do will be to increase the basketball budget even if it's at the expense of the football budget a bit. If, and it's a big if, UCONN pulls this off, they'll have paved the way for schools to be invited into power conferences based on the strength of their basketball program.

It would be interesting also as it has been reported that if the Big 12 adds a non-P5 football team, there would be an impact on their media deal

What we're seeing is desperation to add value. The next B12 media deal will not be the same without Texas and OU anyways. Might as well take a shot at one of the top men's and women's basketball programs in the country.

When the next big shift happens, basketball could be a saving grace for us if we keep elevating that program.

With college football there is a limited number of network and cable channels, each channel can broadcast 4 games per day, and just all the games are on Saturdays.   Far more D1 games being payed, then networks to broadcast them, so the rest go to streaming.  With college basketball there is more media flexibility, there are actually a few more networks, games are shorter, and games can be played any day the week.
