Western Kentucky may see a familiar face across the field when it visits North Texas on Thursday.

Former WKU quarterback DaMarcus Smith could get the start for the winless Mean Green.

UNT fired coach Dan McCarney on Saturday after the team's 66-7 loss to Portland State, and Vito said there are indications that interim coach Mike Canales - the team's offensive coordinator - will start Smith at QB against his former team.

Smith has appeared in three games for North Texas this season, completing 6 of 18 passes for 105 yards and a touchdown with an interception. He orchestrated UNT's only scoring drive Saturday with about a minute to play.

The dual-threat QB appeared in five games for WKU in 2013 under coach Bobby Petrino, completing 2 of 5 passes for 33 yards with no TDs and an interception. He also rushed 10 times for 51 yards but lost out on the starting job to Brandon Doughty.
