  2. There is going to be a TON of top recruits in New Denton this weekend. I have been following recruiting since my days at North Texas and this is the biggest Recruiting cost day I can remember. I would say 90% of the guys they have offers extended to will be in town. And almost every one that is currently committed will be in town! This will be a great chance for the commits to mingle and do a little Recruiting. So it is a must that the team doesn't lay an Egg this weekend and hopefully being family weekend there will be a nice crowd! I will post list later in the week. GMG

  7. BTW, I just rewatched AK's hudl video from Kilgore. Not one of his highlighted punts was from the soccer style. All were from the standard straight-on, three step approach and he hit several beyond 50 yards. The kid has a strong leg. So I have no idea why we would ask him to do otherwise? It's possible that all the blame for the recent poor performance instead lays squarely at the feet of the coach who told him to soccer kick it, instead of allowing him to do what he does best...punt away straight on. 16. Special teams issues are not just punts. In 3 games we've been penalized on extra points twice, had one extra point partially blocked (but still went through), and the blocked field goal (which was mentioned).

  18. UAB is the top rated rushing team in the conference. North Texas has done a good job of shutting down the run through three games this season. Lamar 86 yards rushing in Week 1 SMU 69 yards rushing in Week 2 Iowa 112 yards rushing in Week 3 I don't believe UAB can run the ball as well as Iowa. And, UAB has yet to prove they can effectively pass the ball. Our defense could have a huge game. North Texas has the top rated offense in C-USA. We can pass the ball and run the ball. To me this looks like a perfect storm for the Mean Green to make a big statement. The list of blow outs was just to place my prediction in perspective.

  20. Man! I love hating SMU but I can't wrap my mind around how you think. I say that not in response to this quote but a summation of everything about SMU you've posted over the years.

  21. I attended the TCU-smut game game. Although they did compete for a good portion of the game, SMU just didn't have enough effective firepower. I keep my eyes on Cortland Sutherland the entire game and he was a non factor. As the game wore on, I could see a big difference in TCU depth and athletism compared to SMU. And you know where that puts UNT.

  30. The rule has been changed this year. They are giving a years notice because of the way uniforms are purchased. The new rule states that the pant legs have to cover the knee and have a knee pad. The officials are looking for this in pregame this year. This guy will be told to pull his pant legs down and if he doesn't then he will not be allowed on the field. Next year, it will actually be a penalty anytime he comes on the playing field during the game.

  32. I have no problem with moving icons of the Confederacy (statues of Lee, Jackson, whatever) off of state property to a museum. Some folks are offended to be reminded of history, and I get that. I think the state needs to be respectful of all citizens, and avoiding some kind of bias is a good thing. I have a problem with memorials to Confederate soldiers being defaced and destroyed. I think they should also probably be moved to areas designated as memorial areas though, so those that might be offended by them can avoid that trauma. Having said that--my great great grandfather served in the CSA here in Texas, and was called up from his farm, and head of his household at 46 years of age--leaving 5 kids and his wife behind to take care of things in Ellis County while he was gone. A great uncle was shot and killed at the Battle of Pea Ridge in Arkansas. I would like to think that there could be some kind of memorial to those that served without its existence threatening someone's self-esteem or identity--or whatever. Regardless, I'll pass down the knowledge to my kids myself, because there's "good" and "bad" in America's past. Knowing that is a good thing, and none of us should ever forget it. We need more reminders, not less. Ask an "Indian"--if you can find one.

  43. The "bells & whistles" mean nothing if you're not winning. Period. So when you list off the other crap LATech did with their stadium, even if they didn't do any of that, they'd still be winning the recruiting battles because they've established a winning culture there. Expectations are there, and yes, you're correct, that includes opportunities to enter the NFL. Are you seriously saying UNT does not have "bells & whistles" at all? Because we seem to be falling flat when recruiting head to head against UTSA and LATech. So Apogee Stadium, which spanks Aillet (even with whatever extras they've recently added there) would not qualify as something that would lure a recruit here? A whole section of campus dedicated to Athletics (South of 35E) from room/board, to weightroom, to academic center, etc... would not be something that a recruit would be interested in? UNT has a lot going for it. UTSA apparently has hired the salesman of the year for their HC position, because he seems to be able to get guys to come down there when he has not established anything... yet. What Wilson is doing down there is simply amazing. He will have that program at LATech's level very soon if he doesn't get poached. And I have a feeling he would be just as successful whether he were recruiting to the Alamodome or a crappy old stadium like Aillet. None of it matters because we've gone 4-8, 1-11 & 5-8 over the past 3 seasons, and this year, we just lost a critical rivalry game against a school that we routinely battle with for recruits. We do not have a winning culture... yet, and that trumps all of these extra side-reasons why anyone would come here.

  44. Then you aren't very aware of SL history.. He has had offenses that are more run heavy % wise at multiple stops.. Also, why are we being critical of them adding more potential play makers? Get the kid to campus if he can play then worry about where he plays... Means was a QB when SL got here, moved to RB and this spring moved to LB..
