  3. My biggest beef with this MAC business is that everyone seems to be jumping on a Ball State bandwagon that seems undeserved. Even the CBS rankings had them in the 30s last season. Sure, they went 10-3, but that's not necessarily hard to come by when you play E Michigan (2-10), W Michigan (1-11), Kent State (4-8), Miami (OH) (0-12), Army (3-9), Akron (5-7), and Virginia (2-10) and an FCS team. The other teams they played weren't spectacular either. Additionally they were beaten by a (decent) Ark St. team in the bowl game. But the biggest problem with them of all? UNT was the only other regular season opponent to beat them besides Northern Illinois! Take N Illinois from that conference and they're probably worse than the Sun Belt.

  5. We signed 2 each the past two years. Shilleci and Chad Davis in 2013 and Kishawn McClain and Andrew Jones last year in our 2014 class. Because of that we don't have a lot of young DBs on the team. That, and because in 2012 we signed 6 DBs, 4 of them have already left the program (Xavier Kelly, Devante Davis, David Busby, Jamarcus Jarvis), 1 was a JUCO and graduated (DQ Johnson), and the only remaining 1 plays linebacker now (Jamal Marshall).

  6. Ouch. That is two fantastic players they lost. What is going on at SMU basketball? Whatever it is, I kinda like it.

  8. For what we've paid him vs the success he's made, I'd say he's overpaid by double. His recruiting has been abysmal and he even admitted to recruiting guys not offered by Power schools because he thought they would never commit. You miss all shots you don't take. The marginal winning is the only upside but it hasn't increased crowds and revenue at all.

  9. You can't take a second. It is against the rules. You greedy bastard! Forgive me Father for I have sinned. I called a man of the cloth a bastard. And a greedy one at that. While he had it coming, i just want to cover my bases.

  10. Harry, I honestly don't care if people like chili's. No skin off my teeth. But isn't the whole point of these annual threads to point out places that make Denton unique? I can drive from Denton to work in Addison and eat chili's forty seven times, and that doesn't count the return trip.

  11. I thought my last years pick "bust" would go unnoticed. Thanks 97and03. My pick this year is Willie Ivery.

  12. You are talking about US troops in the Ukraine. That makes zero sense. Sadam Hussein & Vladimir Putin are both authoritarian despots who flaunt international mores. We find them offensive. We should do everything possible - withing the context of our own best interests - to constrain them. Driving Hussein out of Kuwait was in our best interest. Driving him from power & replacing him with a weak pro-Iranian government that may easily be replaced by a radical Islamic regime is not in our best interest. Constraining Putin in the Ukraine is in our best interest. Involving US troops in a war in the Ukraine is not.

  13. Last year, I picked Aaron Bellazin. At the time, I said, At 34 tackles, 12.5 TFL, and 9 sacks (team leader) . . . I'd say he accomplished that. But now it's time to move on to Aaron's heir apparent. So give me . . .

  15. Yup. And I think we only have 1 more defensive end spot as well. Unless an exceptional one wants to jump on board later like Kenneth Mann or someone like that. Beecham also told Vito that the coaches told him they'd be taking just 2 interior o-linemen. I could see them taking another, but that's something to keep note of.

  18. It never occurred to me that the visiting band had to pay for their seats. Does the Athletic Dept charge our opponents bands ? I think in years past that the Green Brigade bused down and arrived just before game time and left for home right after the game. What changed to make this year different ? Did the ticket price go up that much ? Beat Texas GO MEAN GREEN

  20. We've received 2 verbal commitments today. Zavian Bingham, JUCO cornerback. Will enroll this upcoming spring. And Taylor Robinson. Cornerback from Keller Central and former teammate of 2014 signee TJ Tauaalo. Robinson had an amazing junior year, earning honorable mention all-state honors while collecting 9 interceptions. We now already have 5 defensive backs committed for this class.

  23. San Antonio! Woo! So I'm guessing it'll be on The CW where they own it. Also, good news for DirecTV customers from out of town. According to Wikipedia, they reached an agreement hours before the previous one expired.

  27. Alumni data is usually tracked by individual colleges within the University, some do a good job contacting, others don't. Nobody shares any of this info because they don't want people talking to their possible targets. It's shortsighted and archaic and the University finally seems to be doing something about it. This being an enormous bureaucracy it will take a while to implement, but there should be a single source that tracks everyone from initial application to graduation within... five years? At least it's been started, this has been a problem for decades, and started as an actual decision NOT to collect alumni data because they didn't want them to have undue influence over curriculum.

  29. .........leaving the "haves" to have to play one-another in out-of-conference games. Wonder how many "undefeateds" we would see then among the so-called "haves" given they would have to play only one-another for every game every season? One? None? The more interesting thing is Jones admitting that SMU will be a "have-not" when they originally, in fact, thought that their leaving CUSA to join the Big East was going to make them a "have". Alas, now no Big East as they envisioned and now SMU is still not a "have". SMU has seen athletic reality give it a big ole kick in the cojones! I couldn't be happier!

  36. Wow, so the rule originally would have taken away 750 seats. I wonder if RV offered to put visiting fans in front of the students in order to help get the number down to what it is now. That or tell the conference it's on them when there is this huge empty space on TV behind the visiting bench.

  37. Could be a game changer... What we talk about with Ryan and guyer.... We may have tapped one school with double the D1 players. I hope he talks up UNT and brings a few buddies along with him. If he convinced Murray and Greg Little I wouldn't be mad at him

  42. I get stuff from UNT on a monthly bases...at least. Though somewhere along the line I received an honorary doctorate. No matter how many people i talk to, 80% of the mail I receive from NT is to "Dr. Courtland Jindra." It always cracks me up.

  43. I wouldn't worry about it if I were them. It's pretty typical to be an underdog coming out of North Texas. They said the same thing about Dunbar, Robertson, and Olawale.

  44. I take the DMN and have for decades. It is in steep decline like all newspapers. I am going to continue to read it because it is frankly the only local newspaper left. Having said that, the excuse from the paper was pure bs. I really wonder why they don't seem to realize that they almost surely have more readers with UNT ties than any other college. I am happy that the DRC still has a beat writer covering NT, but that has absolutely nothing to do with their coverage of local sports in the DMN. I supposed they would prefer me for instance to cancel my subscription and subscribe to the DRC. There is absolutely no excuse other than ignorance to explain their odd slap at NT. My guess is the guilty DMN writers just does not consider NT major league college football and probably only included SMU because in their mind that is Dallas's team.
