  1. Benford having to suspend players is a sign that he is losing the player's attention and losing control of the team. But I wouldn't expect you to understand that, Skivandude.

  2. Thanks, RV...great hire you made here. I'm really looking forward to the next 3.5 years of this and seeing who you will hire after that with only a year left on his contract, severly handicapping what our poor athletic department can already spend on basketball. You're welcome, TCU, SMU, and UTA!! Enjoy the reality that North Texas will continue to be your best friend for media attention in the Metroplex!! And I guess should really congratulate the schools in the SBCUSA---since we won't even be competitive in this new league with all of our current conference mates, save for a few, including the team that just trucked us at our place. Again, nice job, RV!! Shanice Stephens thinks you're doing just great...

  5. You could apply this to just about any game this year, but it was particularly obvious last night. A guest I brought to the game who knows a thing or 2 about college basketball was shocked at how poorly prepared we were offensively and defensively. 19 boards against a smaller team was ridiculous and a side effect of being out of position defensively. We watched both the women and the men's game and the difference in ball and player movement against the same 2-3 zone was startling. That was a bad, bad, bad ULM team who beat us by double digits in the Super Pit. This team looks lost and has zero confidence in whatever it is they are trying to do both offensively and defensively. That is coaching.

  6. 19 rebounds against a smaller team. Just under 3 minutes left, UNT down 3 and ULM with the ball while UNT plays man to man defense, and PJ Hardwick completely turns his backl on his man (the guy who had been killing us from the 3 point line all night) in order to sag into the lane, but not only sags into the lane, but starts trying to anticipate a drive from a MUCH TALLER PLAYER, allowing his man, you know, the one that has been killing us all night from three, to spot up a good 15 feet from PJ. That is not an exaggeration. He lost his man by 15 feet. Because he is 5'8" and is sagging into the lane, to do what I have no idea.I was literally yelling from my seat for him to get on his man before ULM rotated the ball to him (ball rotation, a concept COMPLETELY lost on this coach and team). #4 for ULM gets the ball, lines up his 3 with no one within 10 feet of him, LITERALLY, and splashes it home. GAME OVER. There are so many things broken so badly on this team, it's not even funny. Alzee suspended, a guy that has done nothing but play his ass off the last 4 years, doing whatever any coach asked him to do, and has never been in any trouble. This thing is about to come apart at the seams. The ball movement that was there against the 2-3 against Troy was nowhere to be seen against ULM. Weekday games are out for me from now on. Just too long of a drive to see all this talent wasted by one of the worst coaching hires in UNT history, if not the worst. I share Emmitt's feeling about losing a fan base. I just hope after this thing ends at 10 or 11 wins (maybe) and a 1st round exit in Hot Springs that something is done besides blaming 18-21 year old kids, many who will leave this program after this year (mark it). Everyone makes mistakes. Admitting and correcting this mistake is paramount to maintaining a fledging fan base.

  7. THIS!!! No matter whose "fault" you think it is, no matter how many times you try to blame 18-20 year old kids for this atrocity, one fact remains. We are literally LOSING a fanbase that took a long time to build. No amount of "you're a horrible person and fan if you don't show up and give money" can change the fact that the message is no longer even being heard, much less received. Your telethon isn't gonna work when people have turned off the television. So now we'll spend the next few years mired in irrelevance when we had a shot at FINALLY getting one right around here. And save the protestations about how we can't blame this person, or that person. Save the garbage about how some people aren't dedicated enough. Basically, just quit with trying to lay the blame at the feet of someone, anyone, other than those who get paid to make this program successful. And not because I want them "fired" or because I'm bagging on them...they don't need you to run to their defense guys...rather because the damage is done. The "same ol' North Texas" line is already deeply entrenched in the public's mind. Everyone has already pulled their pants up and their butts are no longer open for sunshine and rainbows to be pumped.

  8. Not bad since Middle Tennessee, ECU, and FAU would be in the east division and it would slide S. Miss and Tulane over to the west division. A division with Tulane, Tulsa, S. Miss, UTSA, Rice, UTEP, L. Tech and UNT is light years better than where we were.

  11. Yep, I bought seats as well. I recall it being said our names would be on the back of the seats we paid for. But, seems to me the big plaque in the concourse is a much better idea. Plus, I did not donate so I could see my name on some plaque. I donated to help get rid of those awful orange seats. It wasn't about recognition for me, it was about the seats and about helping with this project. Greenjoe was one of the folks who helped to spearhead this project. I recall his twisting my arm to get me to contribute. Good job, Joe. He 's still a donor to this day...thanks to greenjoe and all who give of their hard earned funds to help the Mean Green.

  12. I bought a couple of green seats and was pretty upset I didn't get the individual seat plaque I was promised. Then again, maybe I misread the fine print and was actually promised a plague instead of a plaque and this year is the plague I was promised. Honestly, I wouldn't put it past NT Athletics.

  15. The collective team GPA was over 3.0 last semester which is the highest it's been since 1997. Congratulations and good work to all of the players and coaches. Managing school work and athletics is not easy and raising the GPA bar for the program is a great accomplishment. DMac also said that over 30 coaches have contacted him about the Special Teams position at North Texas. That's a good number - I hope we land a stud. 18. I know you wish this to be true. It just isn't. I don't know if you think A&M is some workin' man's hero of a program that has been "held down by the man", but they're still one of the "evil elites" - their budgets are still obscene compared to the "little guys" (us)... just like UT. The difference is, A&M spent 14 years doing less with more than almost any program in the nation. And then blamed it on Texas. Which is why people call them the little brother. It indeed appears they finally turned the corner. Which as I have said several times is great for them. And I love the move to the SEC! But this idea they've "passed UT by" based on one season and a fifth place finish in the SEC is comical and delusional.

  21. I watched the girls play tonight. They played as a team. Adjusted seamlessly from a man to a zone offenses as needed. The post players established position and the guards looked to the post and hit the open post with a crisp pass. I even saw a post to post pass for an easy shot. It was a nice to watch. I could tell they had a plan and knew how to execute the plan. Then in the mens game....... Oh f--- it. For the rest of the year I will leave after the girls play.

  24. Hard to justify losses, but it should not be hard to justify a suspension. There is more to life then winning basketball games. Accountability is huge. I have no problem with Benford holding players accountable for going to class and following team rules.

  25. No. He cannot make throws on the collegiate level. He has less of an arm than Riley Dodge, and Dodge had a popgun. Comparing McNulty to Johnny Football is pure insanity. But, then again, so is being a fan of UNT athletics, so I kinda get it.

  27. The MWC has the luxury of considering quality at this point. The standings as they enter MWC play are sick: 6 Top 50 RPI teams 6 programs with 12 or 13 wins 1 undefeated I just don't see the league clamoring for SMU and Houston to bring their vaunted programs to the league. It will mess up their geography, rivalries...SDSU, Boise, BYU make complete sense. They will not make the 16 team WAC mistake again. 29. Just beat bad by a 2-8 team at home, just when you think it could not get any worse. We can spend the time arguing what the problems are: Injuries A coaching staff without a clue Lack of talent Players that don't care Overrated team I have come to the conclusion all of the above are factors and it doesn't really matter how you weight them, this team is the biggest disaster I have seen in many decades of following NT sports.

  30. A&M is definitely the better team this year, and I have no doubt that they are very happy in the SEC. . . . but you do know your Aggie friends are lying through their teeth with those comments though, right?

  31. You mean past rivalry. As I said before, texas, according to the Aggies I talk to daily,... is in their rear view mirror. Speaking of the past, watching Johnny Football last night reminded me alot of watching Roger "The Dodger" Staubach, Fran "The Mad Scramber" Tarkenton and Joe Theisman, scrambling around running the tongues out of the D Linemen. Very entertaining. Rick

  34. I don't know what or who to believe in regards to the reasons as to why this team and season is a complete disaster! This season is another "Waterloo" moment that we continue to have happen with our athletic program at NorthTexas.

  35. I really want Tulane because they are in New Orleans and are building a new stadium on campus. It was extremely disappoin-ting when they decided on the big waste. Let us hope they return like the prodigal son, or better yet, never really leave. The streetcar to campus from downtown is a treat.

  36. I'd argue, my opinion, that Texas aTm will still be better than Texas next season because they will have more stability at the key positions of QB and OL. Texas can't even decide, which is getting pretty common for Mack, who their QB is. And, I think a second year under Sumlin's system will have them even running even more smoothly. And, while I wholly concede that playing in the Big XII does offer an easier road to the "big game" right now...that may not be such a great thing when a playoff is instituted. I think voters/computers will still weigh SEC wins more heavily than those in the Big XII (or ACC, Pac 12, Big 10, etc). Because of this, while an undefeated Big XII team is virtually assured a spot at the playoff table, a one loss team (or several one loss teams) from the SEC could trump fellow one loss teams from other conferences. (Take this year's polls going into the SEC title game as an example) So, you could have an end of year poll that looks like this...with these teams being place holders for their respective conferences and not necessarily my picks to be in each spot.... #1- LSU (12-0) #2- OU (12-0) #3- Wisconsin (12-0) #4- Texas aTm (11-1) While a 11-1 Texas team, an 11-1 Va Tech team and a 11-1 USC team would be left out. Again, just my opinion of how it could shake out.

  37. Texas will shun A&M because they know that A&M would hand them there ass. It's actually not called shunning, it's called running like cowards.

  38. lol you people are ridiculous! At first you think I have two accounts and now three... this is pretty funny. I have no clue what to say as I thought Tasty was clueless with his accusation. This is even more so ridiculous because I have never even met Green_Dude in person, but its funny how the people who actually seem to know what they are talking about get lambasted by the people who I suppose believe they know everything because they have been using this cite longer. See my name is Andrew.... that is my screen name and my first name. There is really nothing more I can say. You people are extremely ludicrous though.

  39. You do acknowledge that subjective terms like "better" are relative to the here and now, do you not? For instance, would you say that Boise State is better than North Texas in football? I certainly would. Why? Because, currently, they are vastly more successful. We all know there was a time when this wasn't the case...perhaps when you played for North Texas and gained your vast knowledge. When you make the statement "The SEC isn't better than the Big XII" and I respond with evidence to the contrary that is rooted in their relative positions TODAY I'm not sure how this is difficultto comprehend. By the way it was YOUR standard of winning national titles that I used to judge "greatness". If we use your very own standard to judge "greatness" than the SEC has had seven straight "great" teams. One of those "great" teams beat the Big XII's champion just a few years ago. So, we can even reach back to the original argument about "better" and use your own logic to prove that the SEC, because they are again CURRENTLY the more dominant conference, is "better" because of their "greatness". Again, why the brain lock caused by my using said standard to show how the SEC is currently the Big XII's superior? And politics is a funny thing to bring into this equation. The "politics" of college football ensure that the wealthiest schools with the biggest followings are highly rated so that television can always sell a marketable matchup. Are you honestly expecting us to believe that the rankings favor one monolitic conference over another (especially when the supposedly slighted cknference has a flagship school with one of the two largest athletic budgets in America)? Really? Would you like some of my blood pressure medication to help you out?

  40. Another informed comment....

  41. You can think all you want. It doesn't happen by magic. The successful programs don't want for resources. Why do you think the conference membership has gotten so crazy? Keep thinking....
    1 point
  42. Nah, the SEC isn't better than the Big XII. They're just working on national title number seven...in a row, just have more ranked teams and more highly ranked teams year in and year out, and have beaten their Big XII opponent when they've squared off in the NC game lately. If you're waiting for the Aggies to win a national title to be "great", it seems a little strange that the conference that's collecting them like stamps is somehow not at the top of your hierarchy.

  43. While I enjoyed reading this thread. WHAT THE HELL DOES IT HAVE TO DO WITH UNT FOOTBALL? And don't give me the bullshit, it's a Texas team. So what it's not North Texas. Emmitt this thread belongs in the Eagles Nest, not the football forum.

  44. Over drinks recently we had a similar discussion. An A&M grad was bragging to my friends, who both graduated from Westpoint and are active duty Army, about A&M and his beloved core. My buddies basically called him a tool. The Aggie was so irate when he admitted he was never in the military and they called his beloved core a non Greek fraternity. They also said that wasn't the first of such a moronic discussion with people like that guy who incidentally was hanging around our table uninvited. He threw out the WW2 stat like you did. They laughed. He even threw out the false claim about Patton and his A&M comments, which VMI students claim as well. Millions of Americas served in WW2, not just that school, please stop with the Aggie propaganda. It's an interesting stat but they have nothing on the academies. I guess they feel inferior to Texas and to the service academies too, in the case of the academies, they should. Now, back to football...

  46. Because if it was only a 4 or 8 team playoff then some good teams would still be available for upsets in bowls. I just think 16 is too many. It does not leave room for what we love the most. Like the NIU and FSU game (Even though NIU did not show up). If we had a 16 team playoff this would never happen. Keep a small playoff system and a big bowl system.
